#21: Jay Debunks Dr Ally on the purity & efficacy of ZamZam water!

- Last month I uploaded a video on Pfanderfilms about the ZamZam well, since I’ve been zeroing in on Mecca.
Since then many of you have sent me a video recording done by Dr. Shabbir Ally and and his daughter Dr Safiyyah Ally, concerning the great efficacy of the ZamZam water.
Dr. Ally suggested that the water for the well came from surrounding mountains, as well as from rainwater, and that it was this water which fed that 2 million people living in Mecca, as well as the 2 to 3 million pilgrims who came to Mecca every year, coupled with the millions of bottles of water from the ZamZam well which was transported around the Muslim world and sold in their shops, found in almost every Muslim city.
And who provided this water? According to Dr. Ally it was Allah himself. Since it was he who provided the original water in the ZamZam well when he miraculously created it for Hagar and Ishmael, it is still he who also continues to provide the water for the whole Muslim world, so that it will never run out.
What’s more, this water is pure, it’s holy, and it harms no one. In fact, Dr. Ally continued to suggest that if used with prayer it can also heal people, providing that we know that Allah himself is the one who provides the actual cure.
Jay debunkes much of what Dr. Ally is saying in his video by first of all showing a graph put out by the Ministry of environment, water, and agriculture in Saudi Arabia in 2020, which showed that the sources of water for the major cities in Saudi Arabia came from desalinated plants, 27 of them, situated on the shores of the Red Sea in the West, and the Persian Gulf in the East.
The city of Riyadh received 64% of its water from desalination plants. Medina was dependent on 95% of its water from desalination plants, while Mecca was dependent on whopping 98% of its water from desalination plants situated in Jeddah, on the Red Sea; completely debunking what Dr. Shabbir and Dr. Safiyyah were saying in their video.
As to whether the ZamZam water was harmful, Jay pointed to a number of old newspaper articles from the 1800s and the early 1900s which showed just how dangerous the water from the ZamZam well really was:
1881: The Standard Newspaper ran a story on November 18 mentions that 300 people died from cholera which came from the ZamZam well, and the rest of the pilgrims were quarantined. It became so bad that Turkish officials, when inspecting the ZamZam well, noticed it was full of sewage which had filtered into the well from the surrounding city contaminating it and causing a cholera epidemic. The officials suggested giving those who were affected mint lime juice and coffee. If that didn’t work and they began to vomit, they were then left to die.
1901: According to the Chicago Tribune, April 14, the ZamZam well was referred to as the "water of death". Sewage from Mecca was filtering into the well, and pilgrims were filling their bottles with the water, some of which had excrement in it, which caused bubonic plague to break out.
1902: The Birmingham Evening Dispatch on March 7 mentioned that because of the water from the ZamZam well a Cholera epidemic broke out, and 110 people died.
1912: The Chicago Tribune on December 27 mentioned that a Cholera epidemic broke out in Mecca, due to the ZamZam well, and 1,714 people died.
1914: The Calumet News on January 7 mentioned that 44,671 people had to be quarantined because of another Cholera epidemic because by the dirty water from the ZamZam well.
1915: The Star Press on February 7 mentioned that Mecca seems to be an eternal and permanent abiding place of Cholera, due to the dirty water.
1920: The Brooklyn Citizen on February 2 mentioned that another Cholera epidemic occurred due to the brackish water of the ZamZam well.
1930: Finally, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, the city of Mecca, which was notorious for its pilgrimage epidemics, had its first year where there was no Cholera or Bubonic Plague cases. And the reason? According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, this was because of new hospitals, dispensaries, and Western medicine, as well as new desalination plants which had just been built in 1926.
So the purity of the water, and its cleanliness, had little to do with the god of Islam, Allah; it had everything to do with Western medicine, and Western desalination plants.
Shouldn't someone maybe tell Dr Ally and his daughter this?

@@aaabrams1889 you are very funny. It is impossible for the little well to supply millions of litres of water and there are massive pipes taking water into the ZumZum well and back out again. The vast majority of the water they sell started in the Red sea and into a desalination plant.

Hagar and Ismael was commanded by Abraham TOLD BY GOD to let them go into the wilderness....and they wondered there till their provision was finished - them Hagar ran between the 2 hills, Safa and Marwa to look for passing caravans for help while Ismael was under a bush - then the angel came and gave them the Zam-zam well.
A passing caravan from Yemen (Jurhum Arabs) came to ask for water in exchange for provision. Some stayed and gave protection to Hagar and later Ishmael, married a Jurhumite woman, Rala bint Mudad ibn 'Amr ibn Jurhum ibn Himyar ibn Qahtan.
Abraham returned when Ismael was already married and then only built the Kaaba on the foundations of Adam.

Poor misguided thing. Did you know the third cholera pandemic was brought to Mecca by Muslim pilgrims from India? Did you also know that cholera was already a worldwide outbreak in Europe, Africa and Asia way before deaths from cholera were being reported in Mecca? Also, multiple other Zamzam samples were tested to verify the 1881 sample test by Edward Frankland and no cholera was found. If Zamzam was really impure and infested with cholera then Mecca would’ve consistently seen yearly outbreaks of cholera every hajj season ever since the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, plus by the locals drinking from the well, but obviously that was never seen. Even in this video, Jay Smith had to skip decades in between to find any reports of cholera outbreaks from Mecca which shows it wasn’t yearly. You’ve been duped by Jay Smith.
Cholera comes from water. The reason there are no earlier newspaper articles is because of the lack of technological communication was well as the lack of modern medicine to diagnose cholera.

Cholera was rampant in most of the pilgrimage sites in indian subcontinent and in Mecca also and old medical books have mentionned though in today's modern book the infectious disease like cholera are not described in details. But occasional outbreak of cholera epidemic in Mecca are mentioned in medical literature.
Cholera was rampant in Europe and America as well - the source of the cholera in Mecca was Indian pilgrims who brought it there.

No, desalinated water is pure at the source. As it flows down the pipes to the well & in the well it becomes tainted. I discovered this when I lived in South America with leaky & broken pipes. It purified at the plant but picks up impurities as it flows.

Has anybody taken an official bottle of the ZamZam water and sent it for chemical analysis. I think this might provide evidence to debunk this obvious nonsense. Perhaps, Dr Jay, you could organize this?

@@taecart8083 , where's your brain? How do you remove the salt out of red sea water? reverse osmosis! This has the effect of removing every microscopic particle down to the micron level. Therefore the natural minerals found in natural springs are not going to be present in the zum-zum water. There's going to be a huge difference between the two waters.... One will be obviously from a desalination plant that has been through the reverse osmosis system and a real spring water will be full of minerals... Purely Natural!

We all know that it's desalinated, but it is speculated that there are taste and other additives; these could be analysed, indicating origins of those chemicals and processes that could provide further evidence for it's "unholy" storage tank origin, rather than a Muslim stated underwater aquifer.

So let me get this straight. The reason that there were issues with Zamzam water was not because there were issues with the water, but because some unknown, unnamed company that wasn't the Zamzam water somehow managed to get hold of the Zamzam water and accidentally added impurities, even though the water is tightly controlled and only one company is allowed to bottle it.
Go on Shabir, pull the other one.
Some times paying attention to what was being said and doing little research may unlock the mystery, Sometimes small companies buy big bottles from Saudi Arabia Zamzam company and then those companies rebottles the big bottle into smaller bottle. Opening big bottles and powering them in small bottles if not done probably may cause contamination. Hope that helps.

And the Zamzam company didn't have a huge problem with this and didn't get it in every news paper that it wasn't their bottles that contained arsenic despite having Zamzam company lables. Sure.
By the way Zamzam company water is illegal in the UK for commercial sale specifically because it doesn't meet food safety standards. It was smuggled in. From the original article as well "These showed high levels of nitrate and potentially harmful bacteria, and traces of arsenic at three times the permitted maximum level, just like the illegal water which was purchased in the UK."

They smuggle water from India when they return from India in their vacation, and then the bring with them some bottled water from India smuggle it and try to it sell as Zamzam water that came from Saudi Arabia. the report on the bbc is actually in itself suspicious. BBC did not send one of it is expert to Saudi Arabia to bring samples by himself, but asked some pilgrims to bring water from Zamzam and who was this pilgrims God only knows whether he was a real pilgrims or some Indians scammers who scammed the BBC. BBC if it was serious then simply it could have sent one of it is own Muslim reporter to Saudi Arabia to bring water samples and it could have documented all the step it took to get the samples till testing it and how it tested it and who tested it, not just dubious and obscure sources that nobody knows anything about him. And yes bbc could. Documented hot it get the samples. There are a lot of western who are not Muslims claimed to be Muslims and went to umrah to Saudi Arabia and documented the trip and you can find them on TH-cam. BBC did not write a scientific paper all it did it said asked obscure pilgrims to bring to them sample from Zamzam now whether bbc did or just lying. Zamzam water is only provided to people inside masjid ul haram and pilligrams and in limited quantity , but whole saudi arabia out side the masjid ul haram gets water from refined plants .

It is sad that despite actual proof of the current source to replace the problematic and polluted zam zam they still try to find ways and means to justify that it is pure well water. It boils down to a loyalty to believe what was told to them and defend it at all costs including the risk of misleading their very own folk rather than guiding them to the truth even after seeing the evidence before them.

Many Qurans or Hadiths? That says water is always pure?
Very interesting insight into the water supply/civil engineering aspects in Mecca. Perhaps this is for a serious study. MSc or PhD or post-Phd work. Also trace other archetypes of holy waters. eg Lourdes water & baths where a BCC programme revealed how French Muslim ladies do volunteering work in the ladies section of the baths probably inspired by Surah 19: Maryam (Mary - Mother of Jesus). I wonder if Shabir Ally and his daughter are getting carried away with the usual allegorical and metaphors implied in the Quran. All down to Allah which is the Arabic word for God. Bible was there before the Quran. In this age and time how can things be squared up ?
The miracle of Lourdes happened in 1858, long after the Quran. It is not a dogma that Catholics must believe the Lourdes waters are miraculously healthy, but it's also prefraced, that its miraculous, as not everyone is cured, God miraculously cures if it is according to his divine plan. Different than the muslims claim, that the healing of the zamzam water is based on how much faith you have. I.e. if you don't get cured, it must mean you don't have much faith.
It is quite simple really. There is plenty of water close to Mecca.
It is seawater.
Nowadays it is practical to desalinate sea water in the quantities needed for the population and the annual "pilgrimage". It is cheap to produce and Saudi Arabia makes a vast amount of money, selling at inflated prices to the "pilgrim". Just as the Nabateans did with their natural sources of water centuries before them. Many years ago, I worked at company on Tyneside, that built desalination equipment for places like Abu Dhabi.
When did this water start appearing?
As an aside, when I was a kid, my mom got hold of Lourdes water. Lourdes water comes from a Catholic pilgrimage sport in France, I believe. (It's a Mary Queen of Heaven (Isis) thing.)
Religions like Islam and Catholicism and even Buddhist religions have these pilgrimage spots, which are pretty big business. Fortunately for Christians, there are no holy places, special holy people, or holy objects. In the kingdom of God, all that stuff is gone. The Holy City, the New Jerusalem will one day be on the New Earth but until then, we're free from hajj sites.

I believe that the lady who was taken by her father to Mecca but was healed when Jesus healed her after she returned to Pakistan wrote her story in a book called : The torn veil . Another muslim lady who was healed by Jesus wrote her slory in a book called : I dared to call Him Father . Both very inspiring books .
So I really like Dr James Tabor’s work on the Dead Sea Scrolls and Qumran. The zamzam water is about as pure as the ritual immersion pool that Qumran used that gave everyone stomach worms and other nasty stuff.
Qumran and the other desert communities in the Holyland were super inhospitable and they were nowhere near as awful as the Hejazi was/is in terms of aggressively non-life-sustaining.

During the greener Sahara period when Arabia was greener too was this when Mekkah was founded? Also 2% of the water of Mekkah that is not from desalination supports 80,000 people that would make it a larger ancient city.
There is absolutely no evidence for mecca in the 7th century or earlier. No evidence under the sand, no contemporary descriptions by pilgrims or merchants from the neighboring empires, not on any contemporary maps from the 7th century or earlier, nothing.

Shabir Ali's reduction of using modern medicine to an act of faith is disturbing. It would encourage many people to equate needed medication with using Zamzam water and camel urine + faith.
Shabir also had to clarify that the water itself wasn't like medicine. Are there no stories to be found in the Quran that can be used by an Islamic academic to explain this from a theological point of view?

I have heard that "ZamZam" gets its name from the Pool of Siloam, from John 9, where Jesus cures a man of blindness. "Siloam" → "Zamzam" The author of the Qur'an has a long track record of mis-hearing names before transliterating them; e.g., "Amram" → "Imran".
I heard it comes from hebrew words for "Stop!" Stop1", which Hagar is said to have shouted out, when the water starts running.

I have read how the people pre-Islam times use to travel to this gathering place from all around to trade stuff and worship their many idols (hence the many idols in this dwelling) as one without fighting each other on this market trade event, like a big carnival, maybe they traveled over by small boats to trade with those on the other side. Don't know if it true just something I read somewhere. They also use to dance naked around it pre-Islamic times. So maybe it was there as a festival place where all those who need to trade can do so safely. Just a theory, then came Islam who claimed it like they did with everything. Im frm the Pacific islands im in my early 30s & after WWll there was a cholera outbreak on my island so i would say during the war the disease finally made its way in. Fyi we were first under Germany & then by Spain but they ddnt really have anything to do with us. They nvr came to make us speak Spanish or German or whatever they just nvr came to live with us lol. We were still simply living with nature. Then came the Japanese & when they attacked Pearl Harbor thats when the US came in & got rid of the Japanese & a year or a few months after that we had a Cholera outbreak for the first time. Now let me tell u this as a Pacific islander. We rely on springs & rain water. We nvr thought about rain water catchments because we had rainfall all year round & this would be like in the 1950s or whatever. These stories are passed down to us frm our elders. It will nvr be forgotten & today even during the Covid Pandemic my island nation was one of the very last places on this planet with no Covid positive cases to this day. We closed off our borders before it even made its way over & during those times of the cholera we were still closed to the land as our ancestors were but the war broke out.

The problem is that the water that now "comes" from the well is actually fresh water from desalination plants in Jeddah, pumped to Mecca, piped down the well and then back up the well - so it can be callled water "from" the well. Like the rest of the cult, it is all lies.
