  • This is Edward Tufte. AKA is the "da Vinci of data." The "Galileo of graphics". The godfather of modern data visualization. The czar of charts. (And this is his giant metal sculpture of a fish.)
Apologies to Edward Tufte and Inge Druckrey.
    Special thanks to Eleanor.

Is there any other names I should know in Data Viz?
I first came across David McCandless for his principles.
Then Hans Rosling for his time series analysis chart.
Now I discovered Edward Tufte being one of the OGs.

When it comes to OGs, you have to look at W E B Du Bois. He was blending dataviz with aesthetics and sociology and bringing it to the world stage.

Also, don't forget to look at William Playfair who was the inventor of the Line graph, bar chart and the pie chart. Another OG is John Snow, he was great at spatial charts.

I think it's kinda ironic you're making a video on Edward Tufte without applying his science to your videos. First 12 seconds I have no idea what I'm looking at. You are adding in random unrelated stuff, doing EXACTLY what Edward Tufte said NOT to do. Did you even study him or are you just paraphrasing 🔫

    • @itsdavidmora
      @itsdavidmora  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Haha, Minop, I never thought about that! Yeah, this video is actually pretty Anti-Tufte!
Actually this video was largely inspired one of my favorite videos ever: A Brief History of John Baldessari:
      th-cam.com/video/eU7V4GyEuXA/w-d-xo.html
And, now that you've pointed it out, I suppose the style of that video could be argued to fit John's art better than the work of Tufte. Although, I kind of liked the chaotic tension: Tufte is so proper, & this video is so silly :) That part was definitely intentional!
Hmm, though I did go HAM making a video that hard-core reflects its subject's teachings: I'd check out my Johnny Harris video! It's hella-meta!

@@itsdavidmora H-HOW THE HELL DOES SOMEONE GET TOM WAITS TO VOICE A VIDEO!?
And I mean, although it was anti-trufte, I loved it. Maybe that type of video would've performed better with an older algorithm? That video is 1O years old! CRAZZZZZY
And your Harris video is the reason I found you, I really love what you did with musical notes and bridging 👀👀👀 -- and the SHOW.before.TELL I noticed VSauce does the same thing! After studying him for awhile, it's cool to see new perspectives I couldn't notice. Really makes me wonder just how much I can't see
Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink you'll ever make a video on James Jani? His video on "untold story about money" has a very excellent opening that sooooo many creators can learn from. SIMPLICITY (LITERALLY TUFTE THEORY IN PERFECT APPLICATION)
Another really cool person to learn from is Lisa Cron, unfortunately I don't think she'd make a good video tho, but her theory on STORY-WRITING is unprecedented, checkout some of her tedtalks and youll start simping for her like I do jfjdjdjdhdhd
You know of any other crazy people to learn from? Or any future videos you're making.like Harris? I'm obsesssssssed

@@itsdavidmora James Jani's untold stories about money is heavily based on Lisa Cron's theory of STORY-WRITING her misbeliefs theory.
Misbeliefs + SIMPLICITY = equation for why that video did so well, would make such a good video for "James Jani's equation for getting 1Om views without experience on TH-cam"

@@GigachadJesusUS wow thank you so much for all these leads. I've enjoyed some of James Jani's work in the past, but I haven't looked to closely, & I bet I'd learn a ton!
I'll checkout Lisa Cron. Looking forward to simping her soon :) Appreciate it, I'm really trying to learn about storytelling as I prepare the next series on TH-cam & Storytelling!
