    I have a written a new short story in Latin! with drammatically acted audiobook. Check it out: luke-ranieri.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/fabula-anatina-a-duckish-tale-in-latin 🦆
    It's a children's book about the odyssey of a duckling who wants to learn how to fly.

    Sir! I’m not sure you remember me but we served together in the AZ National guard. I was hoping you could instruct me on the proper translation from the English “resilient” to Latin. Hope all is well.

    Salve Lucie ! Just wondering if you have a video on how to say yes in Latin? I've discovered a few versions such as ita and etiam, but unsure when and how to use them.

    • @Glossologia
      @Glossologia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      There are several words of affirmation (sīc, etiam, rēctē, ita, certē, etc.) but they are all much stronger than just 'yes'. More colloquial is to simply repeat the verb. So for instance:
      Q: loquerisne latīnē?
      A: Loquor.
      Q: placetne tibi linguās discere?
      A: Placet.
      Q: Estne Rōma in Italiā?
      A: Est.
      Q: Esne graecus?
      A: Sum.
      Using this construction works better than overusing those words of affirmation I listed before - it's a bit like if you went around saying 'certainly' or 'just so!' every time someone asked you a question haha.
      That said, we do know that in the romance languages several of these words became words for 'yes', namely 'sīc', 'hoc' and 'etiam'. So using these isn't necessarily wrong - just potentially a bit anachronistic or of a later style. But there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

    Salve, Magister Luci! Gratias tibi ago pro lectione. Poterisne facere quaeso pelliculam de etymologiam vocabuli 'Vertere' quoque "Subvertere"? I think it would be interesting because so many words in Spanish (and other languages) include this word in their structure, e.g. vertir, invertir, advertir, adverso, subvertir, controvertir, pervertir, etc. I did not find useful information beyond the literal meaning, translated into English, "to turn". Vale, Luci!

    quae pulchra lingua, maxime quando locutus est.. (please excuse my pig latin!)
    I have a question, if you wouldn’t mind me asking: is there a tangible level of continuity, in any aspect, between Latin and Italian that isn’t present with other Romance languages? I’ve been trying to learn both and the similarities in lexicon and old idioms have really started to stand out when I compared the two. Gratias in antecessum!
