Thanks for the nice video. I have similar combiner box Enphase IQ combiner 3-ES and in process of installing it. Does this has Wi-Fi connection.. capability to connect with my phone via router... Please educate me. Thanks and regards.
Yes. This does use Wi-Fi to communicate to the internet. You then use your phone or computer to check the Enlighten app to check its status. It sends data out about every 15 minutes, so it is not real time but it's fine for checking in on things. I also occasionally use the Enphase Toolkit app to log into it over Wi-Fi and see real time stats. Thanks for watching.
If I'm not mistaking, the CTs in the video, near the end, are installed to get the Utility's current contributions. If one needs the whole-house consumption, one would likely need to install the CTs right above the splice. That's 3 current branches, and the CTs would go to the only unmonitored branch.
You are very welcome. It is a bit confusing at first, but it starts to make sense after a while. Took about a dozen reads through the directions before it sunk in. Thanks for watching.
@@TechMotoring yea, watched your video at 3 times during the instruction manual read and looking back at the panel just to make sure not to do anything wrong. My first time through I installed the CTs backwards. It threw the error that you can't clear. I had to wait 24 hours also. A similar issue to you maybe. I'm glad the video helped you out. Nothing beats video instructions.
Thanks for the great video , my system was set up in my main breaker by adding and wiring the Enphase Envoy System to its own 120V breaker. How do I proceed to attach the consumption monitors CTs to the large power cables coming into the main 220v breaker or do I so how connect the CTs to the 14 gauge wire that was ran to the 120v breaker for the system?
I appreciate the comment. You will want to connect the CTs to the larger wires that come in from the grid. This way the CTs will read all electricity flow in and out of your breaker box. Just make sure you are very careful around those wires as it can be dangerous.
For consumption monitoring to work correctly, you must meet the following installation requirements: • Attach the consumption CT installed on terminal IA (line 1) to the same line as power terminal A of the Envoy-S. Verify with a voltmeter. • Make sure that the arrow on the consumption CT faces toward the loads. • Wire the consumption CTs with the white wire installed on the upper row of wiring terminals and the blue wire installed on the lower row of wiring terminals. • Do not use the Envoy-S terminal block on the right side. NOTE: You must install the CT wired to terminal IA on the same line as the Envoy-S power terminal A. This is what I found in the instructions. Line 1 plugs into the IA terminal which has to be the same side of the electrical panel as the power terminal wires from the Envoy. Give that a shot and see. If you get weird results you can always switch the wires on the IA and IB terminals to verify.
My main panel is in the 2nd floor of the house while the solar cut off panel is outside the house. Do I have to run the blue wire from upstairs or is there any other work around?
The CTs have to go on the main wires coming into your house. Assuming you can't get to those wires anywhere before your panel, then they would have to go at your panel. Though it is not sounding like that will work for you. You can contact Enphase directly and see if they have any suggestions for you.
Are you going to add your own power wall to this enphase system and buy some 1q8+ micro inverters? And use the server rack batteries that are 5kwhrs with the micro inverters and just add 3 units to your system.
I am planning on doing a battery system soon. I do like the modular systems where you can add more batteries as you go. I haven't decided which company I want to go with, but I may decide later this year. Thanks for watching.
Can the CTs go on the pg&e power lines that come up from the street into the house. PG&E came to change the smart meter, saw the CTs and took them off the main power lines, don’t know what to do thanks 👍
First of all, hats off to your wonderful effort to produce this explainer. Am not sure if you had the following message while opening the installer app. When I tried to open the installer app, it says that I am a homeowner and I need to install the Enphase Enlighten app instead which I already have. It also said if i am an installer, either create a new account or request the company to provide access. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the compliment. When it comes to configuring the CTs, download the Installer Toolkit app (Gray Icon) and use that instead. They released an updated app (Orange Icon) that limits what you can do. As long as your Envoy and phone are on the same network you should be able to see it and configure it.
my panels were producing well and my electric bill was very low but something happened the past two months where my electric bill shot all the way up to $300. In the midst to figure out why I was told to install a consumption meter. I do have enphase. So will this consumption meter be able to differentiate against the digital meter outside if the meter is malfunctioning? thanks
The consumption CTs are installed between your home breaker panel and the meter, so in theory you should be able to compare your electricity bill and your consumption in the Enphase app. It won't be 100% accurate. Probably around a 5% difference is what you should see. If you have a huge disparity after a month or so you may want to investigate further. Hope that helps.
@@TechMotoring Yes it has been super stressful. My bill without solar was much cheaper so something is very off. the solar company so far found out the combination panel is faulty and needs replacement but that shouldn’t be why the electrical bill was so high!? Thanks for the video. Very informative. I have one question. The CT's measure the current going into your main panel from the grid but your power from the solar panels are going directly in the the main panel. Does the power from the solar panels still get measured somehow through the CTs even if they are after the CTs? Thanks
My Enphase unit that is attached to the outside of my house has a Production CT which measures the current production of solar. That came with the solar system itself. These Consumption CTs measure the flow of electricity in and out of the house. It logically calculates how much is being used based on all of the CTs. Give or take a few percent for accuracy. Great question. Thanks for watching.
I have a problem with my CT readings after installing a backup generator, the consumption mirrors the solar production but at a lower rate even when consumption is steady?
That is really weird. I am not sure what would cause that after adding a generator. I would call Enphase and see if they have any suggestions for this. Maybe the CTs have to be moved now that there is another power source?
Question please: about the two CTs that are clamped to the two incoming power lines: does it matter which power line does each CT clamped to? I read something about Line 1 but quite understand about it. Thank you.
