Lessons from an Unexpected Life sharing rare insights from life inside her privileged circle, which though golden didn’t always glitter. An extraordinary life in the shadow of the crown and what it was like being a courtier and friend to royalty - no doubt offering some insights into the Royals of 2023.

@@user-gk7qh3ir1p Read her memoir. Anne Glenconner has the most amazing ability to tolerate monstrous people. Her husband Colin was a madman of the first water. (He was also possibly a genius and a visionary, truly someone who didn't like the reality of what he was born into, so he went off and created a different reality for himself.) Being Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret was no walk in the park either.

As much as I love Tina Brown, I'm sure Lady Glenconner could have held court all by herself recalling all the interesting stories from her life. How sad that she and many women from her generation had to contend with domestic abuse, because ladies of the time were expected to shut up and take it. It's difficult for women who today who are victims of domestic abuse, but thank goodness for all the resources available to women who choose not to be their husbands' punching bags. I'm sure Lady Glenconner's book will inspire many women who will be able to relate to her struggles as a victim of spousal abuse and as a mother who was devoted to nursing her children and others back to health. I will definitely be reading both of her books!
    P. S. I chuckled when Lady Glenconner let it slip that Harry had been an angry child. It explains so much about the petulant man-child!

Lady Glenconner mentioned Princess Margaret’s education. I believe that the late Queen Mother did both of her daughters a disservice by not sending them to a proper school, and Margaret in particular could have been sent to university after the war.
