RESPECT!!! From A to Z this video has just about every single detail anybody that doesn’t know how to paint but is somewhat mechanically inclined and want to learn… how to get the complete job done! I’ve watched hundreds of videos, I work in collision repair, and I also go to college to know verbatim every single step and process of the paint auto repair industry and this video is gold!
I painted my first full car three years ago. Watched three videos on TH-cam and went to work. Turned out amazing! Black base, candy root beer brown pearl, three coats of clear. Cheap harbor freight gun. Was fun.
Your crazy with it bro I’m getting ready to prep my obs I bought can you make a video on how you prep your jobs you do to primer stage I saw your other videos on how you prep your previous jobs to get it to primer stage
After you sand the clear and respray the last 2 coats of clear, do you keep a wet edge on both of the clear resprays? Or one light coat and then second spray with wet edge?
@@nextcoat ok thanks man great video as well my painter flaked on me so I’ve been binge watching your videos to tackle my obs, hopefully mine comes out anywhere near as good as yours, cheers bro.
Good video, truck looks great. So, what you describe as a drop coat isn’t a drop coat, we call that a flow coat, & yes we don’t do at bodyshop cause one factory dosent, 2- that cost more money and neither the customer or insurance won’t pay for that. How ever, yes customer shops do it for a show car finish, some times More than once. A drop coat isn’t what you do when spray a metallic color to get the metallic orientation to lay down right, only when needed, some guys do it reguardless. You did a great job once again, & made it look easy. 👍
@nextcoat word, I been working on a 01 Silverado for about a year and had to replace rusted corners/rockers and the truck is beat to hell so I been learning a long the way. Got it all the way to the epoxy primer stage plan on putting filler then a 2k high build idk what to do after blocking that out.
I want it to last but don't care how good it looks as long as it's strait and nice not too flashy. Was gonna go with machinery grey urethane single stage but I think I can pull off base/clear just doubting my skills and got a lot of money ina 500 beater, but it does only have 125k on the odo
125k is low for an 01. I would just do the base/clear since you’re already this deep. You got this bro. I just started painting and figured it out. So can you
@@nextcoat forsure, my epoxy has been coming out really nice so I think with a little more spray experience with primers and I'll have it dialed. Got a 3 gun kit also and new compressor so I am balls deep in it. New bumpers, rims the whole 9. Wanting to get it done by spring but it's cold here in central Illinois where I'm at. Bouta install a garage heater soon and get to applying body filler.
For the last reason part of the video, any reason why you chose to use 400 grit instead of less aggresive sandpaper such as 600-800 before applying 2 coats of clear? Just wondering as I am in a process of repainting my car with black base and mid coat ( yamagata red pearl). Thank you for your help and looking forward to learn more from your channel!
Thank you bro 🤙Th reason I used 400 grid is because that’s what the technical data sheet calls for. I always refer to that and rarely do things different.
@@donproctor4480thank you. I just got confused because he used 400 grit again to reapply 2 more coats of clear but he did mentioned to be careful burning through the paint and also to remove the orange peel before applying the clear again.
Nason sealer is minimum 15 min flash, directly from the TDS. There is something seriously wrong with that spray gun. It should not be pulsating like that. Also you can't keep a wet edge in the clear by starting in the middle of the hood.
Thank you bro 🤙 I don’t know how much is too many, I’ve only done a couple of jobs but, the most I have done 5 with the float coat. I feel like you can’t go wrong with a lot of coats, but I’m not too sure 🤣
Hi guys! Thanks for watching! The final tip(#5) is called a float coat, not a drop coat! 😅
Brother where are you located? Chicago?
Got it but 400 grit is too agresive to flowcoat 800 hundred grit is the way to go.
Flow coat is a drop coat

Good question. I do one light coat, then keep the wet edge 🤙
Do 3 coats of your just starting out. That way you can cut and buff your imperfections

How do you feel about a good urethane single stage?
Never shot a single stage bro. I will say, I don’t like they look. Just my opinion tho.

If your sealing 320-400 grit is fine to use, sealer should be able to fill those sand scratches. If you’re not sealing 600-800 grit should be used.

Hey epoxy primer then do I do seam sealer and add body filer or the other way around??
Hey big brother, I'm a big fan I love your work, how can I contact you for some work on my 1998 obs, I'm from Louisiana
Thank you bro! Unfortunately I’m located in Texas
I can bring it to you if your not to booked up, I will buy the paint and all the materials you need
U did that Tio
Yup 🤙😎
Where are you located
Htx!
❤
What color is that if u don’t mind me asking ?
What’s the name of this color ?
It’s bronze with a lot of flake. Custom bro
@ can I buy this paint from you I would like to paint my 68 c 10 that color
Brother it’s time to start charging good money for your work. How many coats of clear is too many?

2,3 are good making sure the last one is wet with no dry spots
Another reason your back yard paint job looks like trash. Painting parts separately and not all panels at same time
