I have it for my kayak because I did not what extra batteries and a huge monitor. It works great for what I use it for, finding the depth, and it works great for that. It also works well with telling the type of bottom. My only complaint screen is really small and hard to see in the sun. Other then that worth the 40 dollars.
I have this on my kayak for about a year now and it is great for the price, its compact does not need a large battey in my kayak. I was looking mostly for water depths. My only complaint is screen is hard to see in the sun.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I think the problem is were looking at a 2D screen buy the transducer is looking at 3D image sector, all we see. if its inside the cone, but don't know which direction its heading or going away
A friend of mine got one called a Deeper. It reads from the deeper to his phone and is in color. Very accurate depth reading chirp sonar, temp as well and has mapping. To be honest it reminds me of a garmin or lowrance display on your phone. Definitely worth looking into.
Pretty good Joe. I noticed you stayed away from doing any detailed discussion regarding the quadratic equations to divide 5.2' X 10 as I did. Smart Move!
dude I was laughing so hard ... not at you ... just with you cuz you took the leap! I commend you for leaving it in th edit! it was funny and I wouldnt be able to do that voodoo head math either.
Thanks for the demonstration. Ya its just indicating that it detected fish within the beam. Its just a single beam, there is no beam-forming etc. just a 45° beam looking down. I suppose you could manually point that beam any direction you wanted.
I bought one Lucky Fish Finder from China. It look similar than yours. I would like to hear how it worked. I'm going to test it winter in ice fishing scenario.
@@capitolbassfishing It is "in transit". It takes about two weeks from Deal Extreme (China) to Finland I guess. I'll come back when I get some experiences from ice fishing. Depth is important :)
@@capitolbassfishing Hi Joe, I got my fish finder two days ago and tested it today. The finder shows fishes in several depths but I don't know where they are :D Fish finder shows 2D representation of 3D world. Weather was bad for fishing and biting was poor too so no catches today. I tried to get perches. Depth appears to be credible enough. Radar showed 3 meters and my fishing line was around that too. Other place was nearly 4 meters deep and I had to give more fishing line to reach the bottom of the lake. The finder was not able to measure through the ice but I think it is because the ice is crusty, not clear.
@@capitolbassfishing would also be interesting to see if the transducer is crap, by hooking it up to an actual fish finder and/or seeing if you can improve the thing with a better transducer.
I purchased one of these (they're sold under about 100 names) a few years ago and just now opened the box. I was hoping this video would get into the actual using of this contraption but I guess this video ends it. So, judging from the comments below, it's crap.
Well; the old saying is you get what you pay for sometimes turns out to be true. Something to understand first about sonar units is the size of your cone angle. Depending on the depth of the water you might only be seeing a tiny area on screen. This adds up to the deeper the water the more you see. It is like looking thru a funnel or road cone. Even when the depth is say 15-feet your view is super small. That is an issue for even sonar units costing thousands more than yours. That is what makes side viewing sonar so popular. Likely your view moves right to left as you move along. Forward or backwards. What worries me is the demo mode; the depth was in hundreds of feet of water depth. And you sure are not going fishing in the Marianas Trench. If by chance a fish swims thru your tiny sonar cone; a bluegill is going to look like Moby Dick on screen. As you might know by now; I am waiting on baited breath to see what happens next. I hope for the best but, fear for the worst in your great endeavor exploring the lake floor with your $40 dollar sonar; Jacques Cousteau Simpson.
yeah glorified depth finder at best, used this weekend....everytime I would pass over a treetop from an obvious fallen tree it showed "fish" haha. I did get some value and information from depth changes...could view and witness changes in depth, fall offs and flats. useless for finding fish...pretty much but I kinda knew that...useful for finding depth...good for now.
I like how everything from China says what it is like your going to forget, fish finder lol umm yeah what else would it be, buddy of mine bought a Chinese metal detector, right across the front it says metal detector lol
Hopefully this isnt a total mistake!
Maybe it will work...

yes, good depth finder but not sure about fish finding

yeah have seen those
Cool, another review of something not being used.
Come on....really??
I know, right? I just got a new one...latest video...
Get out and use it, have outdoor fun
I use it, and it is perfect for kayaks. When you are looking just for the depth. That's all I need to know.

In one of my videos, I am explaining the safety features of my little buddy heater, then propane blows out everywhere.... left that in too

its a decent depth finder...lol
Anybody used for ice fishing?
Just got mine for my 50th birthday. Looking forward to useing it icefishing
that would be a perfect application.
When the one I bout new is in 4ft of water it reads 0.8 meters
they arent great

If it fails the deeper original or the deeper pro are good options
Does it show size of fishes
Yes but not really...I dont trust it
Can't wait to see it on the water. I imagine it will have difficulty differentiating floating debris or trees from fish.
exactly...basically a glorified depth finder which is still helpful

How do I change it from meters to feet
dont know I dont have it any more. sorry
So where is the vid of it working in practice..the most important bit
yeah, I suck a little there...I dont use it...its mostly a depth finder to be honest...i will pull it out this spring.

I wish you'd showed how to set it up I had one give to me don't have no instructions
its not terrible...
I tried it by putting it on a tub bt the depth reading is wrong
It can't read a body of water that small
How did it work? Where is that video???
not good, I purchased a better on...LOL
Use the damn thing in a pond or something to KNOW if it ACTUALLY works 😂
depth finder...
I bought the same one. Check out some videos if you get a chance. 🎣🇨🇦🎥 Found you looking for how to turn on the sound setting on this thing.

Ice fishing depth finder
How much?
it was like 30-40 dont buy though...no good...
I've had mine out and I was off shore in the sand at about 1 ft of water and it was detecting fish? I just about lost it --- Piece of crap...
