PowerBook 1400 Crash Chimes

- I decided to take out my dusty PowerBook 1400 to have it play a very slow yet haunting crash chime. This slow crash chime would only occur due to a significant hardware failure, while the faster one would occur alongside a Sad Mac.

Duolingobird100 💀💀💀
what the hell man...
Actually its a death chime
That screen has definitely seen it’s better days
what about the bump in the screen
Some corrosion or random plants growing in the hardware probably messed up the screen
Looks like screen rot. Must be a set from a humid country
@@ltterminator burned by sun😂
Yeah.☹. I dunno what happened but it looks terrible.
If listen closely to the first one you can hear the resemblance of the crash sound but it didn’t load correctly probably due to whatever hardware problem it has
probably one wirh the monitor for the screen
It’s just a slower version of that chime
@@quantumrobloxno, the monitor isn't a necessary component to run,
It's probably the other 50 internal failures its experiencing 😂
A regular nightmare as an IT guy is that my main PC one day just starts doing these sounds out of nowhere and becomes completely and utterly unusable.
Is it Windows? Or mac?
@@sailor_carmen6659 Mac 🖥
that won't happen if you dont shoot your own PC
It happens when Mac is sad
This sounds only happen on PowerBooks and powermacs of that time, and it only happens when the Mac is Extremely damaged
Put that PowerBook out of it's misery already, that thing is toast
"put me out of my misery."
Imagine hearing this at night when the power went out of your room
HECK NO!
Dang, I would be extremely terrified 😨
I’d shit bricks
If I heard this at night I would be Intensely terrified tbh even worse when power is out
…I love you jeasuuus! I love you jeasuuus!..
that powerbook on life support god damn
The crash chime is saying pull the plug
The display just makes it that much sadder
It does look bad.😬
Ayo be careful, old LCDs like that can contain mercury, like colour CRTs!
Also, RIP PowerBook 1400cs/133 :(
Color CRTs contain mercury? wow I didn't know that. I have 3 color CRTs and 3 B/W ones. (portable ones are B/W) There was a page saying they contain toxins but it never said what it was. I think 'toxin" was a overreaction plus its only dangerous if you break it lol
thankfully crt's have thick glass so you'd need to break them purposfully probably
@@Warp3326 Yes, but laptops typically have LCD screens, otherwise the top would be a big box
I only have one question how is it possible that the computer can play the death chime when it has a hardware failiure?
@@EpicBanana1560 it got me confused for some reason.
@@EpicBanana1560 I don’t think so. The chime sounded really bad and corrupted let’s say that.
Sorry
This is similar to a standard computer hardware failure. Normally, BIOS will run its POST and if it detects something off, it also makes a few beeps through the PC speaker. To me, it even seems that if the CPU has failed as well, it may play this in a "Fall Back" mode where the CPU runs at a really low clock speed that may still succeed its initial POST so it can warn the user that something catastrophic has occurred with the hardware.
@@cappy758 huh to be honest i actually didnt think of that. forgot about that fact.
When you find out the crash chime is in a major key:
*impossible*
WOW that's a sad PowerBook, broken screen and all.

Jeez, that is nightmare fuel right there... Why did early Apple crash sounds have to be like that? Imagine turning your Mac on at 4 AM to do some work and it blasts this at max volume. Also, the first tone kinda sounds like the Wii crash sound, not gonna lie. The second tone sounds like a dialtone earrape.
it is the crash sound but slowed down (because of hardware errors)
This slow crash sound only on powerbooks
Is hardware Fail
Smashed screen, blown speakers, long Sad Mac (usually means General Hardware Failure). Yep, this PB1400CS is definitely a fixerupper, that's for sure! LOL
I know you used interrupt on the keyboard, just saying the long chimes mean failed hardware.
goddamn, the powerbook is on life support rn
nah its past life support@@f4llenin4l0v3
*Is it normal for the error chime to be that slow and nightmare sounding?*
Yeah, the length of each note has something to do with the error code.
Yes they programmed this so they can not have a slow one but a person also experienced a high - picthed and fast in the same time death chime
I think no if its already broken then bye bye Powerbook 1400
It’s because of a battery leak I think
@@Themethheadsteves its from a hardware failure

@@NoobDaGoat yes
@@KatsuSush wow thats terryfying
do you know about the display?
@@NoobDaGoat no, i never used a PowerBook 1400
This is the kinda stuff that makes me not sleep at night
Powerbooks can get high - picthed and fast death chimes
Seeing the black stuff inside the screen that almost looks like a virus spreading is nightmare fuel
I like that the bong is still fine, despite the crash sound being blaring loud and slow
everyone's talking about the slow and creepy crash chime it makes but I'm here to talk about how f'ed up that display is. That display looks so broken that it looks like its starting to rust which i dont even think is possible since afaik LCD's can't rust. Also looks like its either been shot with an Airsoft gun or has somehow grown patches of hair within the screen. My GOD that display is screwed, I bet it won't work for much longer.
GOD ZAMNNN

Aggressive Buzzing Noises, also how did that happen?
Must be because the internal speakers are blown out. The chimes sound much cleaner with headphones plugged in (PPC Macs automatically re-route audio to any external audio source connected). As for the chimes themselves, I used a certain key combination to set them off.
I think it's the interrupt key.
