I just brought one of these into the house tonight. First time owning one in a cabinet and your vidoe helped me understand a lot…I didnt want to break it…
😀Andy You are a life saver I just ;purchased a 301 cradle and cabinet trims with no clue how to install this. In fact I don't have a 301 I'm searching Thank so very much.
Great video. I purchased a Singer 301 years ago at an antique mall and it came with this cradle, but I didn’t know how to use it. I recently purchased a 401A Singer in a Chesterfield cabinet that supposedly will accommodate this cradle for a 301. As always, your detailed video came to the rescue and explained everything I needed know. Thank you!
Thank you, Shelly. When I first bought a 301 with a cradle "stuck" to it I had no idea what it was for. After figuring it out I felt it was a brilliant idea and wondered why Singer did not make more of them for other models. My wife likes that she can pull her 301A out for travel, servicing, and sewing "parties". I hope it works out for you with the Chesterfield, a nice combination.
Extremely informative video!!! I purchased a 301A and now looking to put it into a cabinet with cradle. My friend is giving me a cabinet that belonged to her grandmother and she threw away the old machine that was in it along with the pin hinges. That just kills me because I know the machine she threw away is better than the modern plastic thing she is using that only sews in reverse now. I will have to get creative on getting some of the "bits", the rubber grommet and soft material stop. When I bought my cradle it came with all of the cabinet hardware. Thanks for sharing so much valuable info.
Yes you can find substitutes for some of the "bits". I found grommets at my ACE hard ware stor for about $1. I also found a small cork board at Goodwill for $2 and took ou the cork for using it on the resting points. You'll do fine. I'm happy for you and best of luck.
I appreciated seeing the cradle and how it works. The tips on getting the bits or stop bracket was very helpful. I didn't know about that stuff! Thanks for all the videos you have made. I am just starting to view them on the Singer 301s.
You're welcome, Kathy. I had fun making the Coco series. I made several more technical videos for model 301 in an additional playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKI_6fbu3itbd1v4z3uQvvkO.html I wasn't sure if you saw that one. Thanks for watching my channel and taking time to comment. Take care.
Hey Andy, I just found me a black 301 yesterday for $50 with a couple of feet, button hole maker, zigzag attachment, and it included the cradle which is why I ended up finding this video here. It came with that cabinet number 42, I think it is. I always find those not in the best of shape but I’m not gonna worry about it at this point. The machine is very beautiful and is a bone dry. I don’t see a trace of grease in it either. I’m in the middle right now cleaning her up. I changed the wires out on the foot pedal only to find out the footpedal is slow, so I’m gonna put the pedal to the side get me one of those electronic ones and work on the original one later on. I know you have a video out there, so I’ll be watching that again. I had to pause and make a comment because I didn’t even realize that there were no holes in the back of the machine, that the cradle is what does that for it so let me get back to watching the video lol.
Wow!, What a bargain, Happy for lucky you! Yes, model 301 was the only machine Singer made to use with a cradle AND a flip-up carry handle. Nice idea, IMO. BTW, I am not telling my Wife about your purchase... she does not look good when envious. LOL
This is an excellent video! Exactly what I was looking for in order to convert a newer cabinet. I was wondering what are the hinges called that are screwed on from underneath? Not the lollipop ones.
Thank you. The cabinets came with hinges. I've never seen a name for any of them. I don't know who started calling them lollipops; maybe a SInger person? I've never seen any documentation of a part list for cabinets, unlike the machines that all had a parts list with parts numbers and often the formal name for the part. ISMACS has some decent info about the original & vintage cabinets. ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/singer_sewing_machine_cabinets.html This site in the UK has some info also, although not as many pictures: www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/tables
Thank You. I've been able to mount the Model 404 in a number of cabnets. SOme went right in with the existing backets I found in the cabinet, but soe I had to replace he brackets to mak the 404 fit properly. I can't find much nfo on all the dfferent rackets, so it's been trial and error stuff. I have bought brackets on eBay when I found them just hopig to be able to use them someaday.
Hi Andy, this was interesting to see how that cradle works. Could you please post the exact communication address for foxy fines andThrifty farm girl? Thanks for another great video.

Thank you. I fixed it awhile ago when a subscriber emailed me. I just tested again and it's working. Maybe refresh the page? or close and reopen the browser.

Whoa! What an excellent video. One of the best I have ever seen. Guess what I am doing tomorrow. I love my Singer 301. Thank you Andy Tube.
💖 let it rock baby! Have fun!🙂
Most likely the grommets are round, but they form themselves to fit the hole. Many thanks for the video
Truth! I verified that with a repairman and used round grommets to replace the old, hardened ones.
@@andytubesewing1953 awesome, that's good news

Jake couldn’t understand why I kept opening his cabinet and peering inside. I had to compare his brackets to those brackets...

It is my understanding that the more recent cabinets came with those metal brackets for all machines not just the 301?
If you mean the two hinge pin parts, they have been part of the cabinet hardware going back many decades.
