Much of the route lies inside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park. Linking the two historic Cumbrian towns of Ulverston and Carlisle.
The route cuts through the Lake District via Coniston Water, Great Langdale, Borrowdale, Derwent Water, Skiddaw Forest and Caldbeck. The Cumbria Way is a primarily low-level route, however there are a few high-level exposed sections.
The local Ramblers Association originally devised the route in the 1970s. Volunteers and national park staff completed the waymarking of the entire route in May 2007.
Generally completed in 5 walking days and easily accessed from all parts of the UK and further afield, it makes it the ideal multi day walking adventure.
The route may be walked in either direction, but it is more usual to walk it from Ulverston in the south to Carlisle in the north.

I was walking me dogs over here in Norway this evening and a massive stag ran across the path about 5 metres in front of us. From one side of the forest to the other like its arse was on fire. First time I saw one in the Lakes was on a night hike in Grizedale.
They looked like they'd just seen the ice cream van turn round the corner and razz off up the dual carriageway.

Another fine production of yet another great hike, as others have said you're getting some miles in mate, do you keep a note or record of the distances you hike ?, I know you use apps on your phone and was just curious if you tallied the distances, it'd be interesting to see how many miles you walk in a year.
