I'm pretty new to magic, I don't really understand what eternal masters is. I hear it has something to do with legacy? And what makes it so expensive compared to regular packs?
The basics of it is that they create a side set of cards that is all reprints of previous cards, which most of the sought after ones are way too expensive in their original form. It has nothing to do with the sets/set blocks that come out for people that play in the "new card" formats. Modern is a big example that is popular. This is a way to get the chase cards back in peoples hands to play with. Some cards reprinted are very old as well, and they want new players/people who don't want to spend 100+ per card to experience the talked about cards in the magic world. This lets them make money off it again instead of you buying stuff on the secondary market. If a card is originally in a set that's legal in format X. You can use this side version of the card instead from my understanding. That would make that example the only way you could use some of these cards if you are a newer set format player. (Modern, Standard etc.) What makes it $$$ is you can pull a reprint of a card sometimes worth hundreds of dollars. So even the reprint can be worth over 100 because the card itself is so powerful and sought after in so many decks. Lastly a lot of these cards are played in the legacy format. If you haven't been playing forever and have all the cards its impossible to build a deck that competes unless you drop $$$$. This makes it cheaper to be a legacy player. It drives more people into the format.
