How To Configure DHCP On A Cisco Router
This Video will show you how to configure DHCP server on a Cisco Router.
It’s pretty simple to configure DCHP,, just a few lines are your all set!
Below is the commands to configure DHCP. I will explain what each one means further down.
service dhcp - Tells the router to turn on the DHCP service.
ip dhcp pool MAIN-POOL - Adds a DHCP pool named ‘MAIN-POOL’. The name can be changed to whatever you like.
network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 - Tells the router to use the IP addresses within the 192.168.1.0 network which is any address between 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254.
default-router 192.168.1.254 - This will be set as the default gateway on the DHCP clients
dns-server 192.168.1.1 - This will be set as the DNS server on the DHCP clients
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.254 - This stops DHCP from leasing out this address.

Hi, thanks for the video it is worth watching. Can you help me on how to use a output modifier aka ( pipe) in packet tracer. I always get an error.
Is it possible to have 2 subnets in dhcp? One default, assigning IPs to unknown MACs, and the second one assigning to well-known MACs from the previously defined list?

is the addition of the domain-name certbros so that clients will see the name certbros when the get an address? I"m a bit confused about why we name the pool and the domain, I thought they were the same thing
You didnt explain what those commands are for?
I configured the router in the exact same way in packet tracer, however when I try to obtain an IP the pc is getting APIPA instead. Also there is no lease option when I get into the ip dhcp pool
So when you excluded the router address, does it stay assigned to the router and it means that nobody can touch that IP or does it return to the pool and stay unavailable?
If you exclude the address it just means it wont be assigned by DHCP. You can then manually assign it.

@@Certbros No dear there weren't any different vlans . there were just two different ranges . Anyway i just fixed the problem .Right now i need your help for another big problem . Its about connecting 2 vlans to a different range . I may not be able to explain it here because its a little complicated and i am begginer . Can you troubleshoot my scenario ? Its on packet tracer. I can send it for you . Thankyou very much sir.
only problem is the volume, SSOOOOO quiet! Then logo nearly breaks my speakers, then SOOOO quiet! Otherwise, great video!
