I am old enough to remember a time when the NHS didn't exist. Rich people didn't have to worry about paying the bills for the doctor. Yes, my grandfather died when my mum was only 4 years ago in 1933(before the NHS was created) He had kidney disease and needed dyallisis once a fortnight at £100 per session from a private consultant.
He had only been married for four years and my gran was still a trainee nurse at the time. She managed to borrow and beg friends and relatives for enough to pay for a couple of sessions but the debt became too great and they both decided that gran would have to let him go.
Gran was only 23 when he died and brought up my mum as a single parent for the next 12 years -farming mum out to relatives for short periods all over the country while she had to work to earn a living. Often my mum would only see her mum once a fortnight for a few hours visit.
Please don't undervalue our NHS -it is a vital social security net for ordinary people.

Regarding the questions asked on admission to hospital; I'm a retired male nurse and have gone through this process many times, you have a list of questions that have to be answered, they are not just stupid questions, the answers help doctors come to decisions on safe and effective treatment for the patient. The forms are "One size fits all" things and the nurse just goes through the questions one by one, it is not something that requires a great deal of thought but it has to be done accurately or it is worse than useless. I quite often just ticked the box if the answer was blindingly obvious but you often asked the question without thinking, if you work as a nurse you are ALWAYS in a hurry. Perhaps people like Rees Mogg should try working in a ward for a shift or two before he is allowed to ignorantly rattle his tonsils on a subject.

Hi, NHS worker here. Depending on the context, a 74 year old man may be asked if he's pregnant. If we're asking questions for something like an MRI scan, we have to ask all the questions on the form, including the pregnancy one. I know it sounds daft, but if we skipped asking it for a 74 year old man, we'd cut asking it for a 70 year old, and then a 65 year old, and so on. The danger there is that someone may be listed as a man on our computer systems because they are transitioning from female to male, and may have legally changed their gender despite still having the ability to become pregnant.
What Jacob is doing here is presenting something that we do out of context, whereas when we explain the reasoning the the patients, I've quite often had a good laugh about it with the octogenerian I've just asked it to.

Every worker in Britain liked Christmas a lot.
But the Tories, who lived in luxury, well, they did not!
The Tories hated Christmas, the giving time season.
And we all know why that is, their cruelty is the reason.
Could it be that their heads aren't screwed on quite right?
Or could it be, perhaps, that their fists are too tight?
But with Tories the most likely reason of all,
Is their cold rotten hearts are a few sizes too small.
Whatever the reason, for their uncharitable views,
They stand there at Christmas, despising all through and through,
Staring down at the Populus with a sour, grouchy frown,
At the poor blighted workers in Britain's cold towns.
For every worker in Britain, they would love to bequeath,
In place of mistletoe a withered funeral wreath.
"No hanging of stockings!" the Tories doth jeer,
Tomorrow may be Christmas, but the Tories don't care.

Increase liability for media companies printing objectively false information. So, for example, if a piece of inaccurate information leads to a death then force the publisher into paying a 1 billion pound settlement to the family or estate of the victim. Extend that to other consequences, so for false information leading to hate crime then change the law and prosecute the publishers and all journos, printing workers etc with incitement to commit hate crime and incitement to commit acts of violence and even incitement to commit acts of terrorism. Do all of those things and watch the media landscape change instantly and watch the Tory party collapse. This is all about blaming the NHS for Tory corruption, incompetence and ideology as the precursor for it's collapse this winter, that's why the Tories have deliberately created these strikes because they have the data. At 04:30, yes ! Why does the BBC journalist interrupt the Labour MP while allowing Jacob Rees Mogg to quote supposed facts, straight out of the Sun newspaper, without any interruption whatsoever ? We had another case of this on the Radio 4 lunch time news last Monday. In an interview with the speech writer for Liz Truss (a Daily Mail journalist but this was not stated at the start of the interview), when Jacob Rees Mogg's twin brother Asa Bennett was struggling with an answer to one of the questions, the BBC newscaster answered the question for him !

I think you are asked if you are pregnant by a doctor. I was asked if I was pregnant and I’m not a woman. It’s a form they have to fill out and rather than assume any of the answers they ask everyone of them. It’s just good practice and avoids mistakes.

Id like to see a proper audit done that identifies and costs just how much charities and faith communities are filling the gaps which the Conservative governments have washed their hands of. Many of these charities and faith communities are now facing HUGE financial issues themselves, yet the government (and those in our communities) just assume that they will always be there to shore up society, but sadly they won't, then what will happen?

Also, another point for the ghoulish Rees-Mogg to ponder is why is the money deliberately misspent on useless PPE and abused during the furlough scheme not being clawed back? Because should a jobseeker claiming out of work benefits do a bit of work on the side for a friend a couple of weeks and get paid cash in hand, upon being found out they'll have to pay this cash back out of their benefits or be sanctioned.

Lord Sainsbury took over the running (down) of the NHS in 1989. A declaration was read out in the ITU I was working on, that doctors and dentists could continue with their private work and nurses were forbidden from working agency. We went onto 12 hour shifts and for six months a seven day on seven day off rota. It was a complete disaster. I continues for another 15 years until physical and mental burn out arrived and into the gutter I went.
Vote for independent MP's, MSP's, MWP's & councillors at the next election as party politics all follow the same colour of blue party flag. Consensus through cooperation...and a Class Action versus The Pandemic Cabinet and the charlatans that followed.
