Designing an underseat subwoofer box for AWESOME BASS using four tens!

  • When building a subwoofer enclosure for an aftermarket car audio system in a truck we need to make use of a minimal amount of space. This makes the design of the subwoofer enclosure for this application very important. In this video I take you through one of my designs step-by-step to show the design process and what I came up with for this four 10" subwoofer system.

    A lot of changes from building a box when I was younger to now.... I can definitely see with the more costly materials where you don't wanna make a bad cut due to improper measuring (measure twice/ cut once) but this does allow all the potential hangups to be dealt with before one has to put pieces of wood in a whoops storage bin to be repurposed as for another build or for the firepit. You definitely are a wealth of info in the car audio realm!

      haha reminds me of when I was in middle school and got the speaker box design book from Radio Shack. Taught myself a lot of algebra and geometry that way. In my 8th grade math class the teacher gave us a pre-test. I was upset I didn't have the time to finish the last 11 or so questions. The teacher about flipped her lid because I was teaching myself stuff like cross multiply and divide while taking the test and resulted in like an 11th grade score on the test. I wonder if modern tech would have the same kind of impact on someone or if the computer doing the work for them would dull it out.

    Great point on proper sizing of drivers. A properly designed pair of 10 inch subs will blow away bigger but poorly designed and constructed systems. Bigger is not always better.

    I’ve been using 2 12’s on 600 watts. And door speakers that aren’t amplified yet.
    I installed them myself and followed every rule I could find. People find it quite shocking when they learn that I’m only using a 600w amp on my subs and nothing on the door speakers.
    Thanks for all the lessons!

    • @vapeking8882
      @vapeking8882 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need a lot of watts to push the right subs my wife's blazer is running 2-12in kicker impulse they are kicker subs from late 90's I had bought 20 of them when I did budget SPL competitions if my memory is right I think I paid 89.99 each back then i had 6 left so i put 2 in and one of the old Rockford power punch 360a2 that pushes 90w by 2 channel we tested it at 152spl and as you said no amps for mids and highs, awia dub din head unit and modified in 2- 6.5in Polk audio component sets in front & rear and that's it and it sounds awesome. you don't need to amp everything nore do you need to spend a arm an a leg if you just want some bump and to sound good and in mid speaker picking ones with higher sensitivity take less power to push.

      Its all labor. You can do it yourself if you have the time and patience. Mark is showing of his skills and chops. Its not really that expensive. Even the equipment is dirt cheap.
      But as an installer, you have to go with name brands since your are liable for the warranty and the entire work done on a car. So there is so much more overhead involved.
      there are lots of ways to cut costs and get to where you are happy with your system

      I have two JL Audio 10WOs down firing in a 2020 Chevy Silverado that I had my local Car Toys build with the JL Audio SGRU-10 grilles with 1.5" of clearance from sub bottom panel to the carpet. There is 0.5" clearance from grille face to the carpet. All of the energy released through the slot on the back of the box because they had to cut the full rubber floor mat to the edge of the front of the box. All of the energy basically goes backwards into the cab back wall. Sounds great and does not sound restricted.

      Is an 06 silverado crew cab. Couple companies do offer a behind the seat but they are all about 3/8- 1/2" short on depth and noby makes a dual under the seat for a crew cab. And I've yet to find a shop locally I trust to make a decent looking one don't want competition level or anything but it's gotta atleast look decent and due to garage space at the house with other projects I'm I'm no position to try and do it myself, got the tools but not the available space or time.

  • @MickeyMishra
    @MickeyMishra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just in case you and wood don't get along to well? Dual has a great Down firing subwoofer you can get at Advance Auto parts for less then $82 bucks for the pair without tax. These were the secret sauce for me to get that Mid-BASS kick and I mean KICK drum and Tom Toms a plenty!
    I have room for my main sub woofers in the back, but this gave me something that I just could not accomplish in my car due to phase issues, and cancellations. The boxes are very well made for such a good price, I could not say no. Buy them in a pair since that's really how they need to be used. I run mine in stereo right behind the seats and since they tuck up right next to it? It also feels like I have a Tactile transducer mounted to the seat back. Pretty cool.
    It won't work for everyone, but for me? It was either this? Or start cutting my car in order to install a Mid bass on the floor PSound style like Peter often does. That would have been killer to do, but just not ready for that amount of customization a this time.
    And I love Water puddles.
    For everyone else? Have Mark or someone else build the box for you and forget about the intensive labor and time doing all the hard work it takes to put something like a custom box together.
    having a pro do it saves you so much time and grief. Mark also knows a bit about cabins so he could probably be able to get the most out of your box he makes for you. And the dude does some AMAZING looking work. It looks more like Furniture then a Box if you ask me.
    ask yourself when is the last time someone made something custom tailored just for you and your vehicle? People used to get suits and clothing made just for them and tailored to their needs this is basically the same thing but with car audio.
