@@steelydude I actually have a theory about that. Leftists, being collectivists by nature, believe they speak for everyone or that everyone deep down agrees with them. So when people or ideas spread that show this isn't the case, they get really aggressive.

The funny part of the Appalachia statement is there are lots of pockets of mixed cultures all along it. A lot of the borderlands along the Appalachian Mountains were a no fly zone for English settlers but were for French people due to marrying into the tribes like Matis and they reached from Montreal to New Orleans. A good portion of the British Outcasts are as well.

Also, the southern Appalachians from western Virginia (what is now West Virginia) down through Georgia were heavily Unionist during the Civil War. You can't have plantations up there because the land's not conducive to big farms. It's always been a very independent, somewhat ornery place. (Source: Grew up with the Blue Ridge visible from my house.)

The closer to the 40th parallel, the less use there was based on specific crops, resistance to malaria and the ability to thrive in high vitamin d or e... I forget which one. These days we have a better understanding of these things and ways to combat it so people's specific evolutionary advantages really aren't necessary anymore

Saw a video of someone else who watched the video, they actually talked about it’s a bad job portraying the people he’s trying to portray as bad. In Praise of Shadows either didn’t google the channel name he wanted to us or he did and ignored it. In Praise of Shadows is a book written and published in Japan in 1933. It’s about keeping traditional ascetics alive in modern buildings. It’s literally about architecture basically. So at best he’s ignorant, at worst it’s cultural appropriation.
Also 1933 the Japanese Imperialist party was already in control of Japan. The fascist party. Based his OWN logic of guilt by association, that makes him a fascist.
