    I worked in the oil change business for 12 years and that's where I got my hate for automotive engineers. Obviously those high paid clowns don't do their own oil changes. The canister oil filter is an Euro thing, looking at you Mercedes and BMW, and GM wants to copy it. 🙄 And they put the filter near one of the hottest areas of the engine, great planning there GM.

    Awesome oil change demonstration! Redline over AMSOil?

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all comes out of the same oil barrel... but yeah, I have had very good luck with Redline, and I have a wholesale account with them.

    Doing your own oil changes do you also do the multi-point inspections dealerships claim to do {brakes, tires, fluids, lines, hoses...}?

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      During the 4x timelapse, I checked the brake fluid, washer fluid and coolant levels. I check my tires every day with the in-vehicle pressure sensors, and I adjust the pressure about 1/month depending on the weather and driving conditions. I never check my brakes, though, as long as they aren't going "screeeeee" then i'm not worried about them. ^_^

      PowerSports Guess I meant more along the lines of tread depth, belts and hoses and other things that need to kept track of that you don’t see day to day.

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, nope and nope, lol. And, i highly doubt the dealership looks at them, either. If i see dry-rotted belts or hoses (by chance) then I replace them, but the truck only has 5k miles on it right now, so not an issue for several years. The tires, I pretty much run them until I start noticing traction issues. Tires are so expensive, I don't toss them until absolutely necessary. ^_^

    Have any issues with the crush washers? My 2019 has a stock rubber gasket. With the low torque spec I have been curious. I followed your lead so far. But have been nervous.

    • @PowerSports

      The magnetic drain bolt and copper washer worked great! Just gotta make sure to replace the washer every oil change.

    Why do you want to get the engine hot before an oil change

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When engine oil is cold, it is very thick and doesn't flow well, meaning it won't pickup all the contaminates and carry them out as it is draining. Always do a hot oil change whenever possible. At least 15min (if not 30min) of driving.

    Just to let you know you didn't check the oil after the end as a check. It actually holds 7 quarts. 6 in the engine, 1 for the filter. You might want to check your oil. 😮

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, i followed the factory service manual for "oil with filter change". I did it correctly. Maybe your vehicle is a different year i.e. model change.

      @@PowerSports I mean mine is a 2020 zr2 V6 3.6 My manual states. 6.3 quarts. And I can only get it full on the dipstick at 7. Definitely weird. Not saying you did it incorrectly. Just saying verify.

    • @CollideFan1
      @CollideFan1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go by what the manual says. As long as the oil is in the hash marks of the oil stick you're good. You don't want to overfill the engine.

    You must have a heavy foot. I get 17.5-18mpg around town driving normal and 21mpg on the highway doing 70mph in cruise control. When i take a long road by the river to go north to my shooting club it’s 50mph. In cruise control at 52mph i get 28-30mpg. My record for that trip is 30.1mpg for a 50min ride at that speed catching no red lights or traffic. I have a 2019 4x4 3.6L v6 LT colorado.

    Have you ever heard of or found a Colorado oil filter relocation kit? I have searched and searched and am perplexed that, given the complete shit location of the filter location, SOMEBODY/SOME COMPANY has not designed/developed a reloaction kit to fix what GM designers seem inexplicably incapable of. Surely, I simply must not be finding it out there... I cannot be the ONLY human being believing that this issue has a simple aftermarket remedy.

    • @PowerSports
      @PowerSports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, moving the oil filter on the Colorado V6, isn't as easy as on a normal LS engine. I'm sure its possible, but i don't know of anyone currently selling something like that. 🤔

      @PowerSports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah yeah... i've had people say that I am over-torquing bolts because of that... but OCD is OCD and there is nothing I can do about it... ^_^

    • @denali9449
      @denali9449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true. Many fasteners will 'relax' slightly after the first click. Hitting it a second time assures that you have the proper torque. Some folks are even more anal about this. I worked for two race teams where you hit every fastener three times.
