      +fckurvtc Donations of that sort would probably come with demands I'm not willing to meet. I'm shocked at how much this channel continues to grow, so I imagine it's only a matter of time before I'm asked to review something. I'm certainly not going to go out begging, which I think is what a lot of product reviewers do. I like being able to give my unfiltered opinion without some vendor bitching at me about a bad review. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I promise to be up front about it and let everyone know where stuff comes from. Thanks for watching! I'm pretty excited about this series too.

    Thanks for the series. I've had nothing but trouble with my loads of H110 powder driving 147gr bullets. Then you mentioned the carbine length gas system, and everything clicked. Now to break them down and turn the powder into fertilizer. I'll wait for the 147gr videos, but watch in sequence.

      Thanks for watching! Carbine gas is tough, but there ARE definitely some options for you. After you catch up on the later videos let me know if you've got any questions. Start looking for some Accurate 1680! It's a carbine gas gun's friend. Miles better than anything else. Good luck.

    I can't wait to see more data. You sir are the hickok45 of the reloading world. I watch your subscriber count rise and have no doubt that for those of us who are interested in reloading re-watch these to make sure we got all the info we could. Couple things to mention. I have had just as much luck with accurate 5744 as 1680. It is $10 a pound more expensive, but I seem to find it more regularly than 1680. I don't blame you for omitting it but it does work well if you can find it. The secret for me to get my Hornady 220 gr RN interlocks to feed well was a OAL of 2.0 even, anything longer jams constantly. I am interested if your heavier bullets stabilize in your 1:8 barrels. I had some luck with the 225 gr hornady match and the 208 gr Amax but the 220 gr Nosler CC and 220gr SMK crapped the bed.

    • @JohnnysReloadingBench
      @JohnnysReloadingBench  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +moparmadman Thanks! I will be on the lookout for Accurate 5744. I've seen it on the burn rate chart right next to 1680 and always wondered about it. I'll pick up a pound at the first opportunity.
      I completely forgot to mention twist rate in this video. I figured the 220's would be okay but the 240 might have issues, but now you've got me worried. Very interesting that you had some issues. Was it full blown keyholing or just bad groups from minor instability?

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Johnny's Reloading Bench Full blown key holing at 30 ft, almost completely sideways. I couldn't believe it. I can send you a pic of my last range session with the 220 SMKs, its bad. Do your due diligence and don't ruin your suppressor. Honestly, I was so fed up I built a whole new upper. 10.5" 1:7 twist and it is night and day difference. I like the 8.5: 1:8, and can't wait to see the subsonic load data for the 147 gr. Are you using pulled bullets for the 147's or are they new? That might be the only subs I choose to run in the 8.5" barrel. I started collecting velocity data and my loads between barrels is not significantly different in the subsonic range. I can't wait to see more. I have heard rumors that the suppressor will add velocity. I hope you get some comparison data with and without it.

  • @TroyPosey

    My best load so far for my .300 BLK uses Berger 210 VLD's with 300-MP powder, CCI 400's, in cut & formed WCC 5.56 brass. Shoots about 3/4" to 1" groups @ 100 yards (maybe slightly better) from my 16" Rainier Arms 1:8.5" twist barrel (built it LONG before 1:7 became standard). Shoots ~1.5" groups with Berry's 220gr .300 BLK bullets. Not the best groups, but for plinking ammo it's not terrible. And it's accurate enough to hit the 10" gong at 200 pretty regularly.
    Videos on my channel, if yall want to check them out. 👍🏼

    @MrBuckshot18 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I used the 296 recipe in the Hornady 9th edition book on page 386. using the 225 gr. I am getting reliable cycling and a good group but the velocity is is horrible at 25 yards my rounds are traveling 289 fps out of a 8.5" inch barrel.

    This series is better than Starwars! I like the long episodes. You are doing the most in the reloading genre. You are a fucking boss!
    I am ultra curious about Win296 suppressed. I couldn't get my unsuppressed 8.5" Premium and 10" Performance Ballistic Advantage barrels firing 220 SMK to lock back with charges up to and just slightly exceeding 9.9 grains. No go!
    I'm also curious about 147gr subsonic. GO FOR IT!
    I'm saving up for a SilencerCo Omega 9k AND then will have to wait for the glacial like Form 1 to come back. We're talking Fall 2016 IF I'm lucky!
    I feel what you're saying rolling your own vs just buying the full up commercial version. Sig Sauer makes a 20 rnd box of 9mm 124gr VCrown rounds for $18. Midway sells Sierra Vcrowns in 100 rnd boxes for WAY cheaper. I also got a fee boxes of Starline nickle casing so I basically duplicate Sig's stuff for less money! I like to find a commercial load, and then copy it and make it better.
    Keep up the great videos! I'm looking forward to a slew your outstanding experimentation.

      +RETiredGM Thanks for watching! I'll be sure to use Win 296 on the 220 SMK video.
      I think that Omega 9k will be a good choice. If I were buying today it would probably be a Hybrid or Omega 9k so I could use it with pistol as well. Suppressed shooting is even better than I'd imagined! I can go out and shoot all day without worry that I'm driving the neighbors crazy.

    Finally loaded my first rifle rounds a few weeks ago. You must have spend a fortune on the bullets. Have you ever thought about putting ads on the videos? I wouldn't mind watching a 30 second advertisement at the beginning of the video if it supports the channel. I think I speak for a few people at least. Keep up the good work on the videos.

      +bassetthound2008 Congrats on the first rifle rounds! I guess you didn't blow your face off, which is nice. I monetized the channel about a week or two ago, which means I'll start getting a cut of the youtube ads. I assume that means there's more of them shown as well. Glad to hear you didn't notice! I was, and still am, worried that it will be annoying. At the size the channel is now it's only a couple bucks each day, but as the channel grows over time (hopefully) maybe it will be enough to help pay for some bullets.
      I did indeed drop some serious money on bullets, but it's alright. I'm well fed, the mortgage is getting paid, and I don't have a wife to nag me about it. :)

      +Johnny's Reloading Bench I fired 5 of them 2 weekends ago. They were a 150 gr Hornady SST on top of 48 gr of IMR 4064 for .30-06. They went bang but I know I over paid for the bullets. $37 for 100 but they were my first rifle rounds and I don't mind that at first. Seeing as I'm only 19 in college I can deal with it for now until I get some better income. One thing I noticed though is that the inside of the case was caked with carbon as compared to factory ammo. Is IMR 4064 a dirtier powder, and if so what is a cleaner burning powder for .30-06?

      @@JohnnysReloadingBench Sir, 1st off, thank you for all the wisdom you share. 2nd, there's no way in hell that I can do what your doing. My short attention span & lack of follow through would leave me with a bunch of bullet making material and I would just go back to factory loads.
      I wish they (the ammo manufacturers) would make rounds specific for barrel sizes and weight of bullets. Maybe they do, I'm just not well versed with ammo .
      Thx for what you do.

    When you get to the 168grn a-max, if you have it, try Blue Dot. I load 168 Hornady BTHP match bullets at 6.9grns of Blue dot out of a bolt gun with great accuracy...I would be curious to see how it goes out of an AR.

      I'm picking up Blue Dot and 2400 for use in 257 Mag, and I've been wondering whether they'd run my 300 Blackout. Everything I've read says they won't, but I'm learning that some of what I read about 300 blk doesn't match my experience. I will be trying both of these powders eventually. I'll probably put them into a separate video and make a little test out of it with different bullet weights.

    So subsonic is based off a heavier and slower projectile correct? What about a load to make black tip loads into subsonic ammo? Would you even be able to do it? Id love to see a ballistics test of it For say a .300aac-blk & .308.
    I dont want to try it but its always made me wonder.

      +pauloticks I definitely haven't given up! I just got really frustrated by the chamber leading issues and decided to take a break and focus on jacketed bullets for a while. I'm still learning a lot about 300 blk, and I'm hoping that the knowledge I gain with the jacketed bullets will translate over to the coated lead bullets. I think it's clear that I'm doing something wrong. Seating depth, crimp, or something else maybe. As soon as this series is over I will be trying it all again. I'm determined to get it right eventually! I never saw any significant barrel leading...it was just that scraped lead building up at the front of the chamber.

    Why did you say 3 slower powders are better then 3 faster ones ? From my knowledge slower powders allows to achieve max velocity in supersonic loads. For subsonic slower and faster powders will work but faster powders produces less gas pressure at muzzle which makes quieter shot. And quieter shot is why we use subsonic, right ?
