Often times in Shakespeare, you see the villains sort of winning… But then they become the victims of their own evil and destroy themselves. That perfectly describes the people who run Star Wars for Disney. Yes, they may have won, but the kingdom they rule is a pale joke in the shadow of what Star Wars once was. So you have to ask yourself: did they really win anything?

On that last note, that is 100% correct. My last movie was Last Jedi... and from that day I have never watched a single Star Wars film since. Sure I lurk to see what people are talking about (like this video) but my lurking has been becoming less and less as the years go by as the same sh!t keeps happening. I remember being so angry, so frustrated, until one day I just said... I don't need or want this anymore. I got tired of being angry and I got tired of being called an 'ist' by the ones who made the show. I got tired of being sad. So I gave it all up. Toys, dvds, role-playing games, video games, action figures, lightsabers, subscriptions, all of it.
One of my friends told me that 'Star Wars is not for fans, it's not made for us. It's made for kids. And it will always try to be for kids. Our time is over.' I don't agree with that fully but it did help me realize that Star Wars is a corpse. And I am saying this for those who maybe also are tired of being angry. Let go. Give it all away. My life has improved greatly, I found other things to be excited for that are actually cool and don't hate me. I hope that everyone will finally set this down and move on to be happy.
George gave it up, so should we.

There is one "Star Wars without war" aspect I would find very interesting to explore, and that would be where it is not the two clear forces battling between good and evil, but rather two forces battling within the realm of the Republic. Maybe boring politics, yes - but wouldn't it be interesting to know what the Jedi knights would do when they're sent out as peace keepers to a conflict, but both sides committ war crimes? How would their very core deal with the situation and decision making, when the black and white world they're trained to view it as, is shattered around them in pure grey paint?

    • @nightperson1012

The one "Star Wars without wars" concept I've seen that worked was the Galaxy of Fear books, but that was due to its protagonists and their unique position in the world. You would think that the basic concepts of time and space would be so intuitive that any writer should be able to understand them, but The Acolyte is here to prove that theory wrong. Anything offscreen is treated almost like it’s in quantum superposition, able to be paused or fast-forwarded (or just fucking teleported) at will in order to make incompatible chronologies sync up how the script needs them to, and wandering off from a group of people taking the most direct route to a room allows you to inexplicably reach that room ahead of them.
If you asked Tony Gilroy about the layout of any of the locations of Andor, he would have a map somewhere to pull out that would allow you to follow how each character moved through the location in their scenes. If you asked Leslye Headland the same thing about any location in The Acolyte, I think you’d just get a blank stare and possibly a grumbled assertion that the question is sexist.

With the advances in AI I have an idea where true Star Wars fans can make a “spoof” or a tribute to Star Wars. Where you change the names of the characters slightly and slight details but everyone knows what they’re watching. You get some good unknown actors and film amazing scenes. You have AI do the CGI and action scenes and put it on TH-cam for free while the individual actors and directors can then make money off of their patreon or other content.
Basically since they’re not monetizing the actual product they put out they can’t be stopped from making it. However they can make money from the popularity of what they produced and become a source for actual Star Wars fans to rally around.
The same way that the boys isn’t the avengers. You can make a similar thing to Star Wars and when people gravitate towards it, we can show disney that we reject their shitty content.

"Why is so much of modern Hollywood about tearing down classic heroes and reframing villains as misunderstood anti-heroes? Why are they trying to dupe people into believing that nothing is intrinsically good or bad, that morality and objective reality don't actually exist?"

@@Ouroboros_99i don't think those are exactly the same thing. "Who you are" is intentionally vague to include every self centered, self obsessed person who just wants to do what they want to do, what makes them happy. Finding responsiblity and family and your moral obligation is one form of finding yourself, but it's just one form. Another person can decide "all that responsibility and sacrifice stuff, that's not for me". And that's who they are, so how can you judge them? I would say it's more about accepting what you _need_ to be, not "discovering who you are" which is usually just code speak for self centered people who want their cake and to eat it as well.

It's a shame that so many classic and venerable franchises are being run into the ground, largely due to wildly incompetent and unqualified writers and show-runners who either have forgotten or never knew how to write compelling narratives.

I love how that woman just laughs and practically advises others to do the same: To sneak into the project by lying and exaggerating even if it - as she indicated - ruins or degrades it. Regardless of the fact that the project may be very important to someone. And at least some people have spent a lot of time and money on it.

No-one born in the last 10 years will ever know the true magic of star wars. What it was. The mystery the theory's etc. Disney ruined it. We don't need back stories to everything. They killed the mystery and wonder

  • @PuissantPeacock

Alright, stop me if you've heard this one... An "Acolyte" walks into a bar, walks right up to a master Jedi, and says, "Attack me with all your strength." Sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? Unfortunately, the storytelling doesn't improve from there. Initially, I was intrigued by the mystery surrounding the Sith Lord, but by the time episode two ended, I had lost all interest. The character development, their backgrounds, and motivations are all subpar, lacking the quality of John Favreau or Dave Filoni's work. Once again, Disney's Star Wars dives headfirst into a mess of poorly made shows. It's clear the producers are trying to mimic Lucas's style and the storytelling of Favreau and Filoni, but they fall far short of skilled, experienced, and talented storytelling.
I'm frustrated by the poor decisions made by Disney executives, who have distorted George Lucas's vision. Disney, you won't get any more of my money for your trash, politics, indoctrinations, or misleading narratives. Maybe, just maybe, when Kennedy finally leaves, Star Wars will have a chance at revival. This is a classic case of confirmation bias in action!

For me, I have accepted that Star Wars died a while ago. However, I will always love the original release I saw in the theater in 1977 as a rural kid who really identified with Luke gazing out at those setting suns. Disney can't take that away from me.

Star Wars isnt gone. its the writers who wrote the best stories and games for it that are gone. Its the same for Marvel movies. When all of the DEI hires and the woke writers are jettisoned from hollywood and GOOD WRITERS and people who understand the franchise like we did in the 90s and 00s are back in power, then people will like those things again. When that happens, itll be like they never left. But that wont happen until Disney is a smoldering pile of garbage and everyone is let go and replaced. So you just have to buckle up and enjoy the good old stuff until they do.
