Still working on the full playthrough but wanted to toss something up to satiate some appetites in the interim. Of course, you're welcome to skip this as it's one of the more epic moments in the chapter, if you wish to experience Focal Point as one cohesive whole :) As a wise man once said, "These things...they take time". I'm making good progress but it is definitely slow going. Thanks for the patience while I continue to work on the main Chapter 5 upload. Hope you enjoy this little preview/teaser in the meantime!
Focal Point is a beautiful experience-such a masterpiece. HECU Collective has outdone themselves with this behemoth of a chapter. It honestly felt longer than all of the Xen chapters in the base game combined. I hope you’ll consider replaying Black Mesa Blue Shift once it’s 100% finished. They’ve added so many improvements to the previous chapters.
So I've heard! Redoing the full game will be an absolute massive undertaking though and I am not sure I will have the capacity for it. Of course it's something I'd love to do though
Agreed. It's been a while since a game, let alone a Source game, affected me in terms of just pure visual "wow". Not to detract from the capabilities of the Source Engine...it's just that I thought I'd seen it all. Then BMBS comes in and schools me lol
Currently at the 50% mark! But it's only going to get tougher from here lol. The final battles at the interceptor and relay will probably take some time
You know? looking in retrospective at your black mesa gameplays, something that I always loved about them, besides the very cinematic take you had to them, is the fact that you pay attention to what's happening in the game and you constantly highlight the enviroments and the scripted scenes. Half life games (Black Mesa and this remake of Blue Shift included) are rich in enviromental storytelling and incredible moments which, more than often, get missed by players if they are not paying enough attention, and I have noticed that in some gameplays of Black Mesa a lot of cool moments and important details are lost or ignored because of the player not paying attention (something I noticed on the gameplay of Focal Point by Bolloxed). So, having a channel like yours where I can see these games fully shine is something that I appreciate a lot. I can't wait to see what you are going to do with Focal Point, is so full of little details and cool sequences!
Thanks for the words of appreciation - you highlight much of what I work hard to do in my videos and I am grateful that they come out as I intend and that they are enjoyable. Focal Point is a massive undertaking but I hope you will enjoy the final product once it's out!
time to watch a playthrough of a game I have already beaten and will probably beat many more times jokes aside, good to have u back. absolutely love your style of playthrough and looking forward to whatever u make next
Big flappy fly thingy was one of the highlights of this chapter. Also looking forward to see your full feature experience of this chapter. It's looooong
Oh definitely. I'm at 1h21min right now and just barely made it halfway through the chapter. It's likely gonna be LOTR levels of length by the time I'm done
I love this interpretation of a Xenian "anti-air" system. It fits with the general vibe the Crowbar Collective seemed to go for originally, and it makes sense since the Nihilanth's kingdom was depicted as more technologically advanced than in Half-Life
Absolute cinema! I’m so glad you’re up to Focal Point now, because this chapter holds a ton of words. Too much to describe how well done it is in every aspect. Can’t wait to see the full gameplay of this! You always do a great job making the environments and gameplay feel cinematic 🔥
See, this is what one should stride for a proper walkthrough, smooth, precise, knowing what you are doing, with a pace that match, exalt and take advantage with game dynamic and flow. Explorative but not wasting, skilled but not rigid. Masterful, wating for the full episode whenever will be available.
I appreciate your dissection of what I try to achieve in my playthroughs, because that means it's at least working a little bit as I intended! Working hard on the full chapter
I’m so glad the team brought back elements of the original tone of Half-Life, which gives quite a intriguing and memorable moment for the scene. Not that I’m criticizing Black Mesa take on Xen, but the theme of it original from HL1 and HLA represents a good touch on it’s inhabitable and alien feel to the borderworld
Agreed! The green hues once Barney gets onto the Relay island were great. I loved that the first half of this chapter felt more like BM Xen, but after the Manta ride it became it's own thing
@@Sexy_Nutella I loved this part! XEN is so beautiful that I stood there for 5 minutes just staring at it like a kindergartener. There's one part I hated: you jump down a pit where the only way to get out is to make a giant leap and hit a leaf, but the leaf throws you the other way, not towards the exit...got that? The other is the end of the game...love it, but find it unduly difficult.
nice to see you are on this again! you habe so much passion, similar to bigmacdavis. this ride certently came as a surprise and the other additions they did to xen, compared to black mesa. when i played, the "AA" guns caught me off guard. i mean, the manta is somewhat organic, could just have been tlold to shake us off but cruely shoot it down like that?
@@Sexy_Nutella naturally. speaking off, if you destroy those control towers without killing the vorts, they die as their mind control wears off, which i made me real mourn the vorts. and...do you mind a gameplay heads up?

Which is fitting because Focal Point is also my favorite Xen level in the original trilogy. I didn't really like the controller spam near the end though.
It definitely is a very ambitious chapter. I do agree on the controller spam though, the fight at the jammer lasted way too long and I disliked how you had to kill all the controllers before entering the portal at the end. But those are minor qualms compared to the brilliant full package :)

Since you’re uploading longer videos, maybe you could try redoing some of your previous play throughs, but with the chapters that were split across several videos no longer given that treatment? nice! @lyokianhitchhiker that is way too ambitious compared to the actual time that I have to work on videos lol.
