How to Replace / Change a Circuit Breaker in your Electrical Panel

  • In this video I show you how to replace or change a circuit breaker in your electrical panel box. If you have a breaker that is not letting voltage pass through to the circuit, the breaker is bad and needs replaced. Sometimes a breaker trips at a lower amperage than what it's supposed to. They get weak over time and need swapped out with a new one.
Here is how you test the amperage on a breaker
    • How to Measure AC Amps...
This gives you reasons why a breaker trips
    • Circuit Breaker Keeps ...
Be safe and use common sense when working with electric circuits.

This is my 4th breaker switch change video and the 3 others have caused me to cringe. Two even showed the main switch always on and fortunately the new switch being replaced was in the off position. WOW if replacement switch was in ON position when changing and an amateur forgets to reconnect with that switch in OFF position!
Yours is the most logical I have seen and safest. I wondered why the wires were not removed at the other videos and re-attached while the switch was out, if wires are long enough - and you did that. More room to reconnect when not in a tight spot. Also I always turn off main switch and faulty switch before trying this, which you also did. This is the exact reason why I watch as many videos on the subject before attempting a repair. One like yours will get it completely right. Thanks!

Ditto to what everyone else is saying, very clear and easy to follow. In my case, I have an older home with an older circuit box and breakers - my circuit breakers have two clips of equal size that clip to the two hot bars - anyway I followed your instruction to the tee and voila... I changed my 1st circuit breaker ever.
Appreciated the safety tips, it inspired confidence with caution. Noted the music was a little 'spooky' lol, probably appropriate for task at hand.

Just subscribed! My dishwasher and my garbage disposal runs off the same 20amp breaker....it worked fine for years, then all of a sudden running the dishwasher, tripped the breaker... now the breaker wont even turn on from the box anymore. It must be dead now. Using your tips I'm confident to change this breaker out.

Look at the panel and determine the manuufacturer. Different Manufacturers have different sized breakers even though same amp (e.g. 15, 20) The bad breaker should have a code on it - take a picture of the panel before you go to the store and match up the same type there
