I have mentioned before how much I loved the PS Big Game and you were one of my favorite players on the show because as you mentioned you were a bit if a "lunatic" lol... Its very cool to get to rewatch these hands from your unique perspective Lex. Very cool analysis. The all in with 10 6 was such a great hand, i remember when watching it I thought "how the hell is Lex so cool about this!? what a boss move to run it 1 time!" its fun to hear exactly what you were thinking in that moment because when I was watching on TV i was shocked hahah

Personally, I prefer this 2010 Big Game analysis, because there's more time for detail. You're also talking with the benefit of hindsight, which means the information seems to have more depth. This is exactly what I am looking for. How does a great player think his/her way through the hand? How does he/she eliminate opponents' hands? What hands can, or can't, he/she represent. given previous action. I really want to start thinking my way more intelligently through hands! This really helps. Thank you!
I think another good reason to always run it once as a more aggressive player is it lowers the incentive for people to play back at you or call you down lighter. I'm pretty sure if you say had a reputation for running it 4 times or something, Justin never folds a Ksxs flushdraw on the flop because of the variance lowering.

To an extent, I see your point. However, how many times you run the board makes no real difference. I don't let that sort of concept get into my thinking. The important thing is getting your money in with decent to great equity as consistently as possible

You did a Lex Live in Aspers casino in London and stood right next to me chatting to a friend and I was a bit star struck. I was super grateful that you brought a low buy-in 8 game tournament to London, it was the first time I'd ever played it and i stayed up all night learning the games online and came 5th in a field of i think quite a lot cashing for double the buy-in. I hope you bring Lex Live every year to London, that was super fun and the personalities there were brilliant, all these streamers and shit. Was hoping to make a table with you, didn't happen but was glad to at least witness Lex!

I watched the big game several times and never for a moment had a feeling you were underrolled to play there considering how you handled yourself in those pots etc. I would guess participating on the show also offered you future opportunities in the poker world which were already worth more than losing a few buyins.
Yeah it definitely did a lot for me. Also poker was a bit different back then
@@LexVeldhuisTV Different in the sense that you could rebuild a roll quicker, due to far more money/bad players being in the ecosystem? Or just that pros cared less about bankroll management in general? Plus I suppose there's something to be said about playing on a televised game.
The first hand really showcases the issue with being out of construction. I'm sure Seiver bets the turn based on Lex's image but even againt a standard player it makes sense to bet the turn a lot, the board is better for the 3better. The issue here is that you have a bunch of random hands that you shouldn't be having like 83s and because of that a lot of hands that should be in a tough spot in the hand given the range advantage become easy calldowns

On the first hand scott seiver didnt bet 40%. He bet more like 80%

But i think where Lex got it confused was after Scotts bet, theres 19.6k (instead of 11.6k) in the pot and his bet now would be 40% of the new pot

I know you mention a few times that you're 100% playing your own money and you were not properly rolled, and I can't imagine shoving 100K with a 10 high fd+gutshot and hearing "call, I have a flush draw" must feel really really bad for sure. But it depends on how much it can hurt too. If you were shoving 100 pennies instead of 100 thousand, wouldn't care at all. With that in mind, have you ever hinted at what your actual bankroll was at this time? I'd be super curious to know that and also hear about your thought process back then on intentionally playing only your own money when you must have been able to easily sell huge chunks of yourself without really even trying

@@bobbywhite1645 Depends on how big you expect your winrate to be, if you expect 10bb/100 winrate, you can take a aggressive shot with a $1 million bankroll, $1.5 million for
Maybe I'm from a bygone era of poker, but does anyone else find all the talk about _"blocker"_ strategy nowadays annoying? I mean, of course it holds more strategic value considering it than it doesn't, & i understand the significance in that the cards you have can help rule out what your opponent is holding, but I dunno, it just seems like something that could get you in a ton of trouble if you focus on it too much during certain hands...
It’s a way to come to a decision faster. It seems like randomizing with a tendency to me and so is safer. U understand what i mean? 😃
If you're gonna do something with a hand, you might as well do it with a hand that has good charactaristics pretty much

Hey Lex, when you say you made stupid bankroll decisions by having all of your action in these big games, could you say how many buyins you actually had to put into perspective for us?
I am also currently playing in big games which I am under-rolled for (like 10-15 buyins), and I am curious how that measures against your insane approach in 2010 (which I absolutely love btw)

In the first hand Scot doesn't cbet 40% on the flop but just under 70% $8k into $11.6k ;-)
Wich is in my opinion unfortunate for you because the likelihood of him trippling off is way higher when he cbets flop small 25%-40%

One question do you think that it's a good time to play poker when there are those special events online? Those with the huge ass fields like the scoops or the winter series
Yeah because those fields are the softest. Variance is gonna be bigger with a bigger field, but it's an insane opportunity,

no you have the Q6hh (dont call 3bets with it) to beef up flat call range. The re-raiser has all the strong hands on AK6 so we just always check

I'm not 🚫 sure that facial expressions is a good indicator on whether you should run it 1 or more. If Bonomo goes on tilt. The benefit of that ( if there is a benefit) is split 🪓 between all the players. You alone suffer losing your money 🤑💰.

There is a formula for how many times you should run it according to your %, to max profit. IIRC in this case you should run it twice.
It doesn't change the ev how many times you run it
@@LexVeldhuisTV It does. Not by much, but there is a difference. Basically you should push your odds to the next % threshold. If you are favorite, you should run it 1 always (or a lot of times, just not twice). If your % is between 33 and 50%, you should run it twice, between 25 and 33% you should run it 3 times, and so on. There was a long forum thread (in 2+2?) about this game theory hypothesis, Ill send you the link if I ever find it, and, maybe hard to believe, the math is 100% sound. Trust me I'm an engineer ;). Its not really easy to see why, but I'm sure you will get there, just give it some thought. Cheers!

The second most boring thing as a viewer is two pro's raising, 3 bet, 4 bet, 5 bet, 6 bet before the flop with Aces/kings. The number one most boring is when they 'run it 2-3 times' and cancel the whole hand. Not sure what to do about that contradiction... I hate to see tournaments decided by _pure_ luck. But running it to cancel out the luck factor also is super lame, this is poker.
I definitely agree watching people run it 2-3 times is boring. 3 times is a lot better because there will be a winner.

Man if the average human is 98% similar to a schimpanze then Justin Bonomo has to be at least 99% similar
The real moral to this story should be to stop overplaying shitty suited hands like 9/5s and 10/6s . If you are gonna play these hands they should be played defensively and for as cheap as possible pre. I only play these hands against a single raise with multiple callers. If I flop a draw I still only play it for calling pot odds if anyone shows any real aggression. Also remember while in a raised pot like Lex was with 10/6 suited the most common type of hand someone is going to have in a raised pot is some variation of Ace high. So if you bet your shitty flush draw and someone raises you they could just as easy have an Ace high better flush draw instead of top pair that has you in horrible shape like in this situation.
it is definitely worse to just call with those weak suited hands than to raise. Maybe you should look into reversed implied odds before telling a poker pro which hands he should play lol
