  • Hi guys, I have set myself a bit of a challenge to catch a jew/mulloway on soft plastics, before the end of winter, that's over the magic 1 METER mark, off the beach or headlands around my hometown of Coffs Harbour. In previous winters I have landed quiet a few but have never hooked into that bigger fish. I'm no expert on big jewies on soft plastics fishing off the rocks or beach but will share what I have learnt so far as I go, but if you have any tips or tricks that might help me find that bigger mulloway on soft plastics, please feel free to leave a comment below. This vid is of my first two afternoon sessions. If you want to follow my journey to finally catching (hopefully) that magic 1 meter plus jew on plastics, please hit the subscribe button to see my attempts to hook into a big silver ghost.

1 jewie on a plastic is worth 5 on bait I reckon. But throwing plastics can lead to many sessions empty handed. I've resorted to live bait these days for most chance. If you want bigger models definitely go up 5-6inch plastic. Zman Swimmerz 6inch in white is my go to.

Thanks for the info mate, I have some Zman 5inch swimmerz in the shed so I'll throw them in my bag for the next session. Might have to go to Mo Tackle and get a few 6 inch , but that place is a trap, so hard to walk in and only spend $20, always walk out with an empty wallet lol.

Cheers Gary, since posting that vid up a few months ago I fished every chance I had to try crack the meter mark, no luck, but I reckon I have caught more jewies in that time than I have in my whole lifetime. Lots of fish round the 80cm size but couldn't find a big girl. I have learnt a lot about them though, and really looking forward to next winter to start chasing them again. Thanks for watching mate.

I reckon the zman 5 inch diezel minnowz are the go mate, if you pause them they float tail up too so they always present well. The tt headlockz and diawa bait junkie jigheads are the goods. It's just a numbers game now, should be able to snag a 1m fish if there is schoolies around you know you are in a good spot

Thank mate, yeah I think you are bang on, a numbers game and right spot right time and some luck holding my tongue just right. Time put in and it has to eventually happen??? surely??

If your rod can handle the cast weight go bigger mate the pre rigged 50g Berkeley Giant ripple Shad’s are unreal on a straight slow roll off the beach. Have caught me many a fish in the last 12 months

@@blakegraham2130 Hi Blake, thanks for the offer to have a fish with you, but I'm in no way an expert jew fisherman on soft plastics. I'm learning myself on what works and what doesn't. I hope these vids sharing what I am learning about catching beach jewies help you out. I hope to learn myself over the next few months the best way to target them, what plastic and condition work etc. Thanks heaps for tunning in mate.

@@gregryan5362 If the swells low the end of the headland is worth a crack. It can be a hazardous spot to fish if any swells rolling in. It always looks inviting but once down on the rock can be a bit hairy. If the swells up walk down the beach(south), few deeper gutters along the beach on a higher tide that hold bream, tailor jews etc. good luck mate, nice spot. Say G'day if you see me around.
