He is an elf and not a fallen angel....It is as if he just walked out of our Scandinavian woods, really acts like our legends says, at least in the book , ( The Hobbit) but also from time to time in tbe movies.....!
Thanks for being so open to others' opinions instead of getting nasty like so many folks. If you read all of Tolkien's books you'll get a clear idea of the part Thranduil, and all the others, play in his many complex themes and plots. Thranduil is a hero and protector. Hollywood of course embellished Thranduil's character so when a movie is based on a novel (like Interview With the Vampire, The Day of the Jackal, etc) it can help to read the book first then see if Hollywood stayed true to the author's visions. Thranduil has a MUCH lesser part in the books than in the movies, but eventually after he come to terms with what's caused him to suffer for so long, he protects the north in Lord of the Rings (not shown, just known). However, I'm SO glad they fleshed out his character because he's a badass. And hot, too. Lee Pace, who also played Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, is one tall drink of water. My husband is tired of me playing only the Thranduil and Ronan parts. :)
