I filmed this before my last DC reaction went up, so I did not really know about the divisiveness of Minx and how the girls feel about it. if you're still interested in seeing a reaction of Minx stuff I might post it up on my patreon once I get that sorted out, but for now on here we'll stick with just current Dreamcatcher music and content :]
also this (as well as my vision reaction) is blocked in some countries for some reason :( not sure why this is just for their most recent cb's but there's unfortunately not a lot I can do about it.
The blocking in some countries started in BEcause era if I'm not mistaken due to them changing distribution from Genie to Sony Music :/

I have conflicting feelings about Minx. Concept wise I hate it which is weird because I absolutely adore the 5 humans singing and the songs are pretty well done for what they are. Its just completely the opposite of what I would normally listen to and the videos to me are pretty conceptually cringe. That being said its worth checking them out if only to see where the girls started and experience the contrast between them as Minx and them as Dreamcatcher. They actually recently performed a bit of Love Shake as OT7 for the first time and while you can tell Siyeon and Dami still aren't big fans of it, they seem to be a bit less triggered by it and even able to laugh about it now. So if you want to check it out go for it!
While some InSomnia are still conflicted about MinX, for the girls themselves, it seems to be very much a part of their history that they've learned to embrace. Siyeon has said in a VLive that it wasn't the kind of music she wanted to make in the first place, which combined with their inability to take off really hit her particularly hard. But now, they're getting to do music they enjoy (so much so that they even listen to themselves off-duty!), and especially with their two music show wins with this very song, any worries of their failure are well in the past.
As such, they can embrace that era now; so much so that when filling out their self-profiles for Weekly Idol, _three members_ said they wanted to dance to Love Shake: JiU, SuA... and Gahyeon, who wasn't part of the lineup first time round, and wanted to dance it with them (she and Dongie had once stepped up on a previous show, but they'd never all done it together). It was a beautiful, and cathartic, moment... 😁
Maison (pronunciation: May Zone) means 'Home' or 'House'. Part 1of Apocalypse Trilogy which the main theme is Environmental Crisis. Part 2 'Vision' seems like a combination of Environmental & War/ Peace theme, still a relevant theme to this day. I think the producers try to apply different musical structure for Apocalypse trilogy, where the song a bit 'flat' at the beginning and the buildup started at the middle to the end of the song, which is quite uncommon for a typical K-pop song. Their producers Leez & Ollounder known for their experimental music approach for DreamCatcher.

I feel like this song gets a lot of unnecessary flak because it is as different as you say. That's unfortunate because it's a good song with lots of energy and a sick-ass, whole verse Dami rap. Like you said, there isn't a crazy differentiation between the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. That turned a LOT of people off. For me, that was only weird for a couple of listens. Since then, I've loved this song. It doesn't help that, up to that point, this is the most experimental they've been with music video CGI. The reason they did that is a commendable one. Admittedly though, some of it does look at bit...sketchy. The things that looked good were fucking beautiful! The things that looked bad were pretty obvious. Not much in between. 😂 However, as you can tell from having watched "Vision", it wasn't all for naught. Definitely stepped up the CGI between the two title tracks. Again, I just feel like people treat it unfairly because it's different when different is all Dreamcatcher has ever done. 🙁 Is it my all time #1 favorite? Nah. Is it a fucking banger? Very much so. yeah i've been listening to it more in my downtime and although it's not an all time favourite it's still fantastic. you just have to get past your initial expectations of what you think it's gonna sound like and i love songs that play with your expectations! (and yes some of the CGI was a bit hilarious but that's okay because like you said it just gets better with Vision anyway so it's just a part of the journey)
@@shaylareacts Exactly. Like I said, the CGI reasoning was commendable. Seeing as the entire point was environmental issues, they wanted to cut back on waste by going, like, 98% CGI. I'm here for that.
It sounds like it bleeds through because the instrumental never drops out. The beat is the same from verse to chorus. The change in the bulk of the instrumental actually happens in Dami's rap. Jiu has mentioned that this song feels like being in a race

Thanks for the video. I totally get what you say about the song. Going base off the teasers, I actually thought they would start off this trilogy similar to the dystopia series. I was expecting something like "Scream" or "BOCA". So I thought I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I do their other title tracks due to the song structure (I tend to prefer more lyrically/vocal driven choruses) . But I was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely one of their most brightest title tracks. And while I was shocked at the sound at first, it has leaped and grown on me tremendously. Especially if you listen to it along with the other songs on this particular album, which is a full length album haha.
Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert").
People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!"
Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. Respect!
It’s funny that you said Minx’s stuff is something you might not be into. Well you’re in good company b/c the majority of the fandom get Vietnam flashbacks b/c of it. 😂 The girls all hated it but have finally come to terms w/ their hard times during Minx (lot of backstory, but you’ll learn more about it during your DC journey). Imo, their first song is a bop, but the second one is…you’ll see.

First, a comment for the algorithm gods! Maison does mean home in French. One of the things I love about DeuKae is how they've used their music to spread important messages. As for other things to react to there are literally a ton of options. Their dance videos are fire, b side special clips and covers are amazing and they have super fun relay dances for title tracks and a few b sides. There are also a ton of great compilations that showcase their personalities and will make you fall even more in love with them. When you get ready to branch into that content, I'll drop specific recommendations if you need. Enjoying the journey so far!

A lot of the stuff about Minx has been manufactured by fans from a few random comments mostly from Siyeon and Dami. Sua, Jiu and Yoohyeon liked the Minx concept, and Handong and Gahyeon both wanted to perform Minx songs. They all certainly had a blast performing Love Shake in their latest concert so I hope that puts some of the angst to rest.
