Hi Dale, The taxis in Baguio or the White Cabs are the safest and most honest Taxis here in the Philippines. You don't have to haggle with them, once you take it just tell them the location and they would always use the meter which is much cheaper than Grab. Hope you enjoyed the stay.

    • @hopeemond2840

Agree! With The taxi drivers in Baguio, there is no haggling of prices, they use their meters- and when they drop you off, they would even give you every bit of change you are entitled to (rather than assuming it is their tip). I have always felt safe taking taxis in Baguio.

Good one. As a flight attendant, we get a lot of passengers asking for an alternative to what is being served onboard, believe it or not. You'd think they come prepared. Travel tip for first time travelers, esp those with allergies, religious/strict or picky food preferences: 1/ BE PREPARED and BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. Unless you request for a special meal in advance, you end up hungry and regretful. There's nothing worse than being unprepared and traveling with an empty stomach. Another tip is 2/ BRING A JACKET + something to cover your head. Airconditioning situation in buses/planes is unpredictable. Not all airline will provide blankets. So imagine traveling in a bus. I traveled to Northern Philippines on a bus before, and the people next to me froze for ten hours because they wore summer clothes and did not bring anything to cover themselves.

Not far from Baguio (a UNESCO creative city) is sagada where the hanging coffins are to be found, the mummies of the ancient Philippines and Batad or Banaue where the renowned rice terraces was located, a unesco world heritage marvel. There are rugged trekking sites and water falls also around the area. Near Baguio is La Union refered to as ELYU derived from L U and its known for surfing particularly San Juan. Further north is Vigan City which is a Unesco world heritage city and it's like Cartagena Colombia. You'll enjoy the ilocano cuisines too. In Ilocos provinces you'll find unesco world heritage churches too similar to San Agustin Church in Intramuros. Then if you still wish to visit another gem theres Batanes and see Sabtang another heritage town built by the natives known as the ybatans. They have interesting cuisines too. Theres an international airport in Laoag City and i think the airport in Baguio City is now operational again.

Btw a security deposit doesn't have anything to do with there being drinks or snacks in the mini fridge. It's just for potential damages to the room.

One thing though. It's rare for a home to have heating. Homes have chimneys and a fireplace sometimes. Many homes have nothing for heating and the night temps get to around 10C in Dec and Jan which is fairly chilly so beds need thick blankets and kids wear pajamas. This vlog brings me back to my childhood. We have a home in Pangasinan so we went to Baguio frequently (1.5 hrs away only by car).

Thanks Sir Dale for visiting our Home City! Glad to see you happened to interact with young athletes playin football there at Melvin Jones Football Grounds. I am not actually a fan of basketball. Prefer football or baseball. 😁And yes! Baguio is a place that's very different/ unique from other places in the PH. The culture, environment and people are much different. Even the cab drivers; they use the meter and you don't need to argue or even heckle with them when you get in. Just tell where you're going and you'll arrive safely 😉👍.

Nice to see so many air con buses. I spent a couple of years in the Philippines, I lived in Manila or Quezon City most of my stay but i would sometimes visit my father's province which is at the northernmost point of Luzon. It was a 10-12 hour ride in lower class non-air con bus that stopped everywhere and passengers were allowed to bring pigs and chickens on board. So in addition to the heat inside the bus. there was a terrible noise and smell. BTW you get used to the heat which is about 90 degrees Fahrenheit almost all year around with incredible humidity. Guess since you are from Scotland, you would not adapt to the heat and humidity easily. I am glad that you are okay as you had not posted for a few weeks. I am sure it took a lot of time to upload and edit this wonderful video. I am sort of wondering why you did not go to the famous Banaue rice terraces. Maybe a future vid. Cheers and good health to you always, Dale.👍

I'm a Baguio native born and raised. Baguio city cab drivers and cops are very honest. We've used cabs there for more than 4 decades which started when I was toddler and they've always and I mean always used the meter. The only problem now from the last time I visited was finding one or waiting long lines to get one.

Strawberries in the Philippines are very expensive, so unless you get them whole, you're probably getting artificial flavoring. Baguio is where they grow strawberries in the Philippines though, so they aren't way too insanely expensive there at least.
