    I love it- rewatching it 2 years later- but I sometimes struggle to get the dog's attention, they tend to stare at the owner who has the treats or pull on the leash and want to run around.

    Again, thank you for your wonderful video. I’m taking tons of notes. Question: Using the 200mm focal length of the 70-200mm, how far were you from your subject? And what is the closest the background should be so that the bokeh is ideal?

    I just knew it is all this easy! And this vid is the proof. It takes longer to explain it to the client than the dog (complimenting the dog, no disrespect to the client). Dog, pose on this leafy thingy! Arf. Clickety-click. Dog, pose up on this 3'H log. Arf. Clickety-click. Nothing to it, let's get home and post-process that leash out. 🐶 🤣 Well, if you're Dog-Spot-Jess, I guess. For the rest of us, ah, bring the giant container of treats, not the pocket-sized. This is such a great video-so much fun watching you scope out scenes and direct everything. I'm sure if my dog ever decides to leave the air-conditioning to go outside, my shoot will come off just like this one, now that you've shown the way. Thank you for sharing this! ⭐x5 Edit:Oops-wrong county, make that 1M H log.

    Game changer doing a second image to composite the person and lead out! I'm totally going to do that, I've been a muppet trying clone out leads all this time! Do you have a video about how to do the composite? • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't ever expect to get the whole dog in focus at 2.8 and to be honest I've never needed to? It's only ever the eyes that must be the sharpest point of the image. If the whole dog is very important for some reason, you would need to use a larger f-number 😊

    That was great - beautiful and you seemed to take so few pictures!!! When you take the pictures without the owner are you focusing on the log? Great video thankyou 🥰

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jessica, yep, so because I'm using back button focus, the focus remains where it last was, where Percy's eyes were, so I just hold as still as I can, Percy gets moved on out and then I just press the shutter again. I took 3 empty shots because I had zoomed out between the ones of him, so I needed the different crops (and focal length compression). But yes, the focus point stays as it was. If you weren't using back button focus, focus at the closest point to where the dogs eyes were, then shoot that 🤓

      Göran Elmertoft I’m not sure what you mean? The aperture was as wide as possible and the shutter speed was as low as is “safe”, so the only thing left to bring light in is ISO. These woods are quite dark, in cloud I would shoot at ISO 1000-2000 👌

      @@ThatPhotographySpot may I ask if you use some filter, app or effect for noise ? what I understand, correct me if I am wrong, is that you shoot for your background and protecting your hight lights, and the focus is on the dog, I suppose, slightly underexposed, and you recover your shadows and details in post. This 1000 ISO , just scares me !!( The noise, I just can stand it🧐) I didn't watch all your video (🙃 not yet...) , maybe you talk about it somewhere...and I can leave in peace during a shooting at 1000....⭐️!! I don'"t understand how a 6 month old pup would just run off of leash, it means it's not well trained.

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He won’t run off if he is off lead, the owner did say that, but he doesn’t have a secure wait. So for photographs, it’s much easier to get the perfect shot if a dog without a secure stay/wait is kept on lead. It is also absolutely not the photographers job to ever judge an owners training - we do what we need to do to do our jobs 🤓👌
