    This area is well known to my partner and me. We have walked the long garden at Caserta and enjoyed the magnificent English Garden at the top. On the hill above is Caserta-Vecchia, with its ancient cathedral; and with wonderful pizzerias perched on the cliff-edge, from where you can look down over the plain toward Vesuvius. At night, it is as though a sack of jewels has been tipped onto the vast plain. Subiaco and Tivoli are both well worth visiting: the former as the first Monastery of the Benedictine Order of Monks; whilst Tivoli has three major gardens. Thank you for this wonderful nostalgic trip!

    What amazing video, didn't know half of this existed and I've been to Rome 3 times. Maybe because Italy has such a splendid history the spans more than 2500 years but they barely upkeep and promote so many amazing attractions.
    The VIlla Aldobrandi and Caserta would be major tourists attractions in any other European country, massive upkeep and tourist experience, in Italy they look neglected and not even significant tourist attractions. Even Monte Cassion Abby, should much more famous, for it's beauty, location, history incuding in WW2.

    Just a note, Cassino was not used as a strong point until after the allies did their massive and utterly ineffective air raid that reduced it to ruins. Then the paratroopers occupied the ruins turning it into a fortress. Prior to that the Germans evacuated all the monks and the priceless treasures to the Vatican using needed supply trucks and in a weird quirk, every single piece and treasure, including the Italian National Art Collection was accounted for with nothing being stolen or destroyed despite allied air attacks.

    • @ffrancia
      @ffrancia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoyJoy-ge4ce Il Vittoriano, not Il Vittoriale.... it's the huge white marble monument near the roman forum (and partailly covering it!!!) built between the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th for willing of Savoia faminy, the italain royal family. Later entitled to "Milite ignoto" - "the unknows soldier", in memory of the victims of WW I.
      This building has been always matter of discussion, its architecture does not fit well with surrounding ancient monuments and overall style of the city. Furthermore it's probably covering other ancient roman biuldings.
