Rimingtons was actually a brilliant shop when I was young, im in my seventies now, it sold everything, art materials , photography equipment, and more strange concoctions than you can shake a stick at..
the instruments at 10:27 are the same as the ones we used in chemistry class. You would put the liquid into the glass tubes then as they heat up you can see through the glass as they bubble/change colour etc. So he would have used those to make his own concoctions. Take note 1 has a thermometer in it another has 2 ends to pour in 2 different chemicals to mix over heat and they have a bubble end which is to be held over heat like a bunsen burner. They also have corks in the ends so when heated the pressure the liquid creates can be kept in and not escape. - They are displayed in an original mortar and pestle he would have used to crush up/mix items.
i remember as a child my mum used to give us a cough medicine called Saint Lukes Brew. rimmingtons was the only chemist that would mix it for her. would love the recipe again
I remember when I was in my teens, many moons ago, looking through the windows of what appeared to be a very posh chemist, never once did I dare go in x
A fascinating look at an iconic Bradfordian and his establishment. It's just occurred to me that the Ivegate address on the Rimmington's paraphernalia actually relates to the entrance around the other side!
Ha! My dad, who was rarely ill, used to always just buy a bottle of Fenning’s Fever Cure when he was under the weather. (No measure -he’d just swig it like a bottle of gin!)
Interesting to see the old Rimmingtons Soda Water dispenser bottle in this video .. I recall my family having 3 of those bottles in our pantry back in the early 60s ..
@@BradfordThroughTheLens .. the bottles are selling on Etsy for £112 .. I would have thought they would sell for a lot more given the fact they are antique..
