Wondering if you could do a piece on the unsolved murder of 20yo Carol Wilkinson near Ravenscliffe in October 1977. A young man was convicted, served 20yrs, then was exonerated and freed on appeal, only to die a broken man in his 40s soon after. Peter Sutcliffe is still a suspect, having been known to Carol when she was a teenager (her stepdad supposedly warned him off her when Sutcliffe was doing some work on the Ravenscliffe estate where she lived). She was murdered the morning after the night before Sutcliffe had mutilated Jean Jordan's week-old dead body when he returned to Manchester to find the now infamous five pound note. Sutcliffe would later admit to detectives he believed he would soon be arrested for being the Ripper once the fiver was found (which it was the day Carol was killed), so maybe he felt the urge to kill one last time. Carol was killed with a 23kg stone slab before her skirt was pulled up in the way the Ripper did, but her killer was then disturbed and left her to die. Now, try lifting 23kg above your head and hold it there. For many men, I would say this is very difficult, if not impossible, yet we know Sutcliffe had powerful upper body strength. Now, I'm not saying Sutcliffe is definitely the killer, but Carol's murder remains unsolved and I think her family deserves some kind of closure. For me, Carol's murder has long been forgotten in Bradford and if Sutcliffe isn't the killer then is her murderer still walking the streets?

Bloody hell! I Know all of these places, and know about Sutcliffe, but didn't know this one was so close to home.

i believe the man was an eastern european refugee after ww2, baracaded himsekf in to stop the eviction, there was various "slum" clearances still going on in the area, most were demolished then left as waste land @@BradfordThroughTheLens
