Orthodontics Treatment for Overjet (Overbite) - Headgear vs. Forsus Appliance

Forsus are used when the upper teeth are sticking out in comparison to the lower teeth. This means there is an extended overjet, you may know it as “overbite”. To be able to fix the “overbite”, an orthodontist needs to push the upper teeth backward and the lower teeth forward. It is possible by a few appliances. The most well-known appliance is Headgear. Dr. Amin Movahhedian is not a big fan of headgear because it is an extra-oral appliance and patients do not like to wear it.
ADVANTAGES OF FORSUS
All of its parts are inside the mouth.
It doesn’t restrict jaw movements.
It doesn’t interfere with eating, chewing, speaking, etc.
It is fixed in place means you cannot take it out.

Overjet and overbite are two separate things. Why does the title have "AKA Overbite"? This will only confuse the patients when talking to their dental provider.

Overjet and overbite are two different things. Poor me I had both :) overjet is when your front teeth sort of jet out and stick out. And over but is when you're bite hangs over.

@@Monthnumber4 really depends on your orthodontist and how bad your teeth are, personally i had a carriere motion appliance for my overbite then normal braces and elastics for my overjet

@@arianawatts5970 I went in yesterday and she told me that towards the end of my treatment I have to start wearing the rubber bands. She didn’t say anything about head gear. Wouldn’t they say that I need head gear?

The maxilla should go fowared all the time even in class 2 bite thats a bad way to traet a case like that
