  • An interesting day at the railway, visiting three stations seeing steam and diesel trains. Also a look around a signal box, thanks to the very helpful and knowledgeable signalman at Crowcombe Heathfield who recognised us, as a regular follower of admiralscorner on TH-cam.

That was great ... nice to see spring has sprung over there ... loved the sounds of the birds too...
I was amazed at the complexity of that signal box ... so many levers for a simple local loop line and two signals 🥹....
A really nice video ... thanks Mike and Val 👍😃

Its great when we realise that not so very long ago the signal box was not even there!

The fire buckets at Crowcombe are kept full of water for use in the event of a small fire, ie hot cinders dropped onto the sleepers by a steam locomotive.

Very sensible. I wonder why other stations don't do similar, as most are empty along the line.

Mike, thank you for showing us detail that as a passenger last year who didn't alight at Crowcombe H, I missed such as the delightful 'penalty for not shutting gate GBP2'. That would have been a lot of money even 70 years ago!
Nor did I know CH has a couple of pleasant tables and chairs near the up platform. Good attention to detail from WSR.
As Val briefly remarked, good to see many passengers on the 9351-hauled first down you videod.
Amazing how with one line you continue to highlight different aspects. Your videos deserve 10,000 views in a month, but some achieve more over time. Well done.

It is such a well manicured and peaceful station.

Yes I did enjoy this video especially the animal farm at the end. What a friendly donkey coming to greet you. And the view of the boat entering Watchet harbour. Crowcombe is a beautifully maintained station and it was special to see the signal box. Even I have heard of Sir Nigel Gresley! Looked rather neglected in the siding at Bishops Lydeard. Hope it is running again soon. Thanks

The West Somerset is a lovely route and back in 2014 I planned an overnight trip down to Paignton just to see the Dawlish coast and had an stayed in Paignton then traveling back to North Wales next day but after I came home and looking at the map I could have kicked myself for not adding the West Somerset and could have easily had another stay somewhere, Having Train Simulator as a hobby I found that there was a West Somerset route that more or less looked exact.

This is in reference to a question from Mike to the Crowcombe Heathfield signalman, at about 21:40 in the video.

Would have loved to operate a locomotive in the old days, but settled for a degree and desk job. My good friend Vincent settled for locomotives.

Great video Mike so nice to see the sun, getting itchy feet the caravan is calling but the rain is still falling perhaps in two weeks time it will be dryer. Clive

And in three weeks time you could also enjoy the diesel Gala on the railway.

There should be a Swindon whistle echoing around the Llangollen Railway next month. Belonging to 57xx Pannier Tank Engine, no. 7754, that is. I gave the little matchbox on wheels a polish, when I was 16-years-old. In the meantime, glad to see Little Miss Mogul in steam. Thanks for letting me listen to her. What's not to love about God's Wonderful Railway?😂
