The magic of Xenoblade 2 is that it has all that humor and fanservice but it also has the most beautiful OST with deep characters and lore that had me the most emotional I’ve ever been over a piece of media
@@rhettmitchell I entirely agree. I think if you can get past the fan service, there's some really deep messages in that game and really emotional moments
I thought 1 had the most gripping story. Followed closely by 2. XC3 was my least favorite. Including X and all the dlc expansions. Just something about the final villain being a sentient personification of people’s fear of the future seemed absurd next to villains with incredibly detailed and relatable backstories like Egil, Zanza, Amalthus, Malos, and Jin. Honestly, the character development in 3 just felt kinda meh to me overall with Noah himself being particularly bland. N was a little better in that he actually had some emotion.
Man, Dickson didn't even get a mention! But really, the whole part about Shulk being a reincarnation (sorta) of Zanza, but ultimately destroying him, was kind of a brain-breaking part of the story for me

I'm not sugarcoating this, but this is genuinely one of, if not, THE MOST concise, and well written Xenoblade videos. It's so hard to find a summary of each game and their themes, and this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Incredible!!
Managing to break down the essential themes of all 3 games in about 10 mins is amazing holy shit! These games are absolute gems of storytelling and that you managed to touch on the core of each game, Future, Past, and Present respective to each entry, while being so concise is insane. Well done! Only gripe I have is for the XC3 section; the plan never got a chance to fail nor succeed. Moebius was created and used its abilities to freeze time into an eternal "now" moments before the worlds collided to basically procrastinate dealing with everyone's collective fear of inevitable change (for better or worse). I say procrastinate because, as Noah says in the intro, the world is slowly dying. People who make it to Homecoming are lost in the reincarnation cycle and Annihilation events will eventually rip the world into pieces.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I guess it was a failure in the sense that everyone got trapped in purgatory for thousands of years but I get your point. It all works out in the end. I can't wait for Xenoblade 4 where we find out the worlds merged, Noah and Mio end up together, and Rex, Shulk and A are okay. A man can dream.
I dont think that there's any better way you could have condensed hundreds of hours of gaming into one 12 minute video, this was amazing! Looking forward to the future of MonolithSoft as big Xenoblade fan

It's probably better for everyone's health to not go down the road I am going to go down. Still working on 100%ing the entire series.)
I honestly have a love-hate relationship with the Xenoblade trilogy (never played X). The first one was great, it had some bad story elements here and there (Shulk stopping Dunban from killing Mumkhar because apparently that means Dunban will be just like him) but overall it was an amazing story and I will replay it again someday. The second game... oh man, the second game. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, it's one of the worst RPG's I've ever played. The main cast is boring and relies too much on common tropes to define them, character design is awful (not just the fanservice), the story had some very interesting elements in it but it felt overshadowed but it was hard to take it seriously (until near the end, at least). The villains were genuinely the only thing I found interesting in this game, Jin, Malos and Amalthus were GREAT villains in (again, my opinion) an awful story. Not to mention the combat, I know the combat is generally a selling-point for this game, but to me it felt overcomplicated and I stopped paying attention to it after element orbs. XC2 DLC on the other hand? Loved it. It gave some much-needed depth to other characters like Mythra, Jin and Malos and succeeded where I believe the base-game failed in telling a story of loss and tragedy. Xenoblade 3, however, is one of the BEST JRPG's I've ever played. It has its problems and, let's be real, it definitely leaves you with a 'wtf just happened?!?' moment at the end, but I found it very interesting despite these and many more flaws. Combat system _looks_ complicated but is more simple than it seems, definitely takes some getting used to and is far from XC1's simplicity, but they ease you into it better than I think XC2 did. Story genuinely takes itself seriously and isn't afraid to hit you where it hurts at times, characters are clearly flawed and watching their character development was very interesting, even if not all characters got the same amount of depth. It had bad story elements in it as well, some of them on-par with XC2 (Ethel and Cammuravi fighting to the death for some reason) but I enjoyed it despite these flaws. A lot of people think the villains are lacking and while I agree Moebius D and Metal Face are very similar, I still thought D was a very entertaining villain who stole the show when he was on-screen, especially in his introduction. N and M were great villains, particularly N. Z was definitely lacking in presence but his fight makes up for it, in my opinion. Especially when it is implied that Z is essentially a product of humanity's fear leading up to the merger. He embodies it very well, too, having a nihilistic view of the future and being childish underneath his high-and-mighty demeanor.
My first game was Xenoblade 2 and I agree 2 is really hit or miss when it comes to the characters and story. For me, past chapter 7, especially with the DLC it hits tremendously and I immediately had to play the other games once I finished. From a gameplay side, ngl I love the gatcha mechanics, the elemental based combat and the blade diversity. The fan service was also a plus for my 17 year old brain at the time 😂 I love that 3 takes itself seriously though, and if Xenoblade 2 had leaned into that more grounded tone I wonder what kind of game it would have been. Probably a better one.
I love this series. The message is pretty shallow and artificial ("You don't want your loved ones to die? Well that inevitably means you'll be reincarnated as child soldiers for all eternity, bet you didn't see that coming, hope you learned your lesson!"), but the presentation and moment-to-moment character bits are so strong that I still just adore it. (Also, Noah's motivation is just Malos's, except Noah is given a scenario where the player is supposed to feel like he's right for wanting to destroy a world he's deemed bad, whereas the player is suppressed to think Malos is wrong for thinking the same thing about his world.)
I disagree with you to a certain degree. I think the games tell the same story over and over again to make a point about, well, letting go (as per this video lmao). Letting go of pain, letting go of expectations, letting go of the what you think is your's, letting go of the very fabric of the world. These are deep themes told through the lens of different characters and I love it, it really resonates with me. I do agree, I wish they would have fleshed out N and Noah a bit more. Like Noah just kinda decides, yep not letting that happen to me, and just doesn't become N. Maybe seeing him struggle more with the idea and that he's no different from N would have been an interesting angle to explore.
@@felipe_dice_cosas Yeah 2 is definitely a bit too anime. I think it really picks up after Chapter 7, leaning more into the story and less into Mythra's boobs 😂
