    Thanks Willie - helping my friend setup his VOIP network with UniFi USG & switch gear. This is going to make it a LOT easier to manage.

    RE using UniFi switches with Mitel phones: I recently setup a new Mitel VOIP network with PC's plugged into the back of the phone with this exact LLDP-MED configuration. Everything has worked great from day 1 and I have been extremely happy with it; especially since this feature was released around the time this project began making the rollout much easier. We currently have about 70 phones on this setup. I have the interface profile configured with the data VLAN as untagged, tagged the VOIP network and set the VOIP VLAN as the voice VLAN everything just worked!
    I do not manage the actual Mitel server as we are working with a partner agency. They use HP switches so I am not sure if they had to make any changes on their end for the phones to work with LLDP-MED but apparently it is possible.

    Willie - We are putting the Mitel phones (6920s) on Voice Vlan at a company we just acquired. They have a Unifi system - have the VLan setup, created profile with vlan set as voice network. Not phones are getting the VLan setting - but at other locations we have UBNT Edge Switches - I have Voice Vlan config setup and that works fine with the Mitel phones no issues. Why would LLDP work on one but not the other?

    Is there a Unifi equivalent of CCNA/CCNP? What about online courses?
    Love what you do, I’ve learned so much. My entire home network is now Unifi, and I’m slowly getting my colleagues onboard.
    I show them my dashboard, the ease of use, and even volunteered to update my child’s preschool to upgrade their equipment to Unifi (staged, ready for deployment)!

    Thanks for this. I have a Polycom vvx310 and want it on VLAN 20 but want the pass-thru port to be "all" because I want the pass-thru traffic to connect the Unifi flex mini smart switch to it. is this possible?

    Hi Willie,
    I had a query in this video lec, how pc was able to get ip address of same subnet as before after connecting it to phone's pc port, although switch port is tagged with vlan2.

    Willie,
    This will not work with Polycom phones unless you name the ports in your unifi switch. The names displayed (Port 1 - Port X) do not get sent in the LLDP-MED messages and apparently polycom does not allow for a certain TLV field to be blank. I was testing a Polycom with a Unifi US-8-150w in our lab and it would not pickup the voice Vlan. Plugged in a Yealink and it worked just fine. Then I found a post where someone had the same issue with a Dell switch and had to name his switch interfaces for it to work. I then named my test switch port, rebooted the phone, and it picked up the Voice Vlan. The post was an old post from 2012, you would of thought that Polycom would have fixed their firmware but points the finger at the switch manufacturers.

      @Michael Prince I have no idea if you’ll even see this, but your comment just fixed my problem with a UDMP and a Polycom phone install. 2 weeks of troubleshooting for a 10 second port name change.

    Willie currently setting up VOIP on UDM-PRO and 24 port 400W POE switch. Question you said right at the end of the video that what you described in this video, should work with Polycomm Phones. Did they?

    I had my mitel phones on my ubiquiti switches, about 1.5 years now but all of a sudden dropped and not working right when they are rebooted. If there is anything you have for an update on the mitel side or if anyone sees this comment and can give me any more information.

    So it's mid August and I can report that Aastra/Mitel 68651 still doesn't work with LLDP-MED. Just tested it. When I manually configure the voice vlan in the phone it all works just fine.

      @@michaelprince5255 I tried that hoping that would be the fix - no luck. I can only get my mitel phones on Vlan if the port is set to voice profile only. LLDP-MED doesnt work. Mitel 6920 phones. About ready to rip my hair out.

    I predominantly use yealink phones and by default the LLDP is disabled. I'm testing with a yealink T48s. When I enable LLDP the phone reboots and is not able to get an IP address. What settings do I need on the phone to match the network settings on the switch?

    • @michaelprince5255
      @michaelprince5255 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, phones do not have to be in a voice Vlan to work but it sure makes management simpler. Furthermore, you can implement bandwidth management prioritizing traffic from the voice subnet to the WAN over other traffic.

      Just a personal note from the field, if you have a network which should, would or could grow... definitely design it right while it is small. Once it grows to the point where you think it is a necessity, the scope of the project for change is quite large and the actions quite disruptive. Additionally, the shakeout time for bugs will be seriously impactful and you are likely to suffer some discomfort in the clients eyes.
      That isn't me telling anyone how to do it, that's just me describing what it is like. Experience,

    Is there any reason not to do this on all ports? I have 30 ports in the office, but only 4 phones. It would be nice if the others could just grab a phone and plug it in to any port without needing me to reconfigure the port. So what - if any - are the drawbacks in doing this? One I can imagine is that the QoS will limit the speed of the port for non-VoIP traffic to whatever you limit you set, is this the case?

    • @robkircherjr
      @robkircherjr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm wondering the very same thing but I don't have a switch to test on right now. But from Willie's discription it seems that I could set all the ports to the phone profile and then if I plug in a PC it would default to non VoIP VLAN.

  • @edwardrobles2400

    The only problem I see here is that if your IP phone has only 100mb ports that will become your bottleneck.

  • @cmoullasnet
    @cmoullasnet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the benefit of splitting VoIP phones onto a separate VLAN? Is the purpose exclusively to reduce broadcast traffic on the VoIP VLAN or are there other QoS benefits as well?

      "USED" to, that is slowly becoming a thing of the past with things like automation, SDN and cloud based infrastructures.
