When it comes to choosing a business phone system, business owners are confused in understanding new technologies, and they need to know the difference between SIP trunking and VoIP. You have explained it in an efficient way good job.
A few points. First, PSTN is going away, if not already gone in many areas, so shouldn't be considered an option. Also, PSTN is not secure. With analog trunks, it's very easy to tap a call, if you have access to the wires. Even TDM PSTN can be tapped with the readily available test equipment that's used by the telecom companies. I used to use a test set from Exfo that could do that. I also used to work in a central office where one could often hear the calls for circuits that someone was working on. I even remember the analog days when it was very easy to monitor calls in the central office. You just had to plug into the circuit. I started working in telecom in 1972 and over the years, I have worked with analog, TDM, VoIP PBX and hosted PBX systems.
@@Jon-kg6hm It's VoIP to the PBX or exchance. A SIP trunk would be used between a PBX and the telephone company. Trunks are used between PBXs, switches, exchanges etc..
is it possible to make my own SIP Trunking Server with something like OpenSIP and connect it with my VoIP Server like asterisk and get it to be working and can call outbound?

So modern PSTN is basically just SIP trunk providers?

@@James_Knottgotcha. Thanks
Nicely explained.

perfectly explained, thanks.
To me this subject is like trying to understand a tribal in Amazon jungle talking. LoL
VoIP is just making calls on WhatsApp or any other app
Wirelessly over ethernet.
Ummm... Isn't that an oxymoron, given Ethernet is over wires or fibre?
They got that basic technology wrong . And other explanations are suspect also
