    Hello guys. In this videos I want to share with you how I replace the timing chain & cam adjuster kit on Mercedes Benz M271 engine. There are 2 known reasons to timing chain and cam adjuster kit, one the engine rattling on cold start and other reason the engine has delay starting. I hope that this video would help you out on how to remove and install the on your timing chain & cam adjuster kit on Mercedes Benz M271 engine.

    Drop the sump - slacken the bolts and allow the front to move downwards 1 or 2mm - and remove the front timing cover. Then you can remove and replace the chain whole. Note that the original 2003 M271 (W203) camshaft sprocket design is different.

    Hello, how are you? I am a loyal follower of your channel,I had a question about replacing the timing chain,Here you have the engine turning without releasing the camshafts, right?I mean, the valves aren't all closed, some of them are still open. Don't you think there's a danger that one or another valve in the piston could come into contact?I mean when you pull the timing chain through you have to turn the engine and then the valves or pistons will be damaged.I would love to receive your feedback.

    • @MercedesBenzTipsTricks
      @MercedesBenzTipsTricks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Valves and pistons shouldn't be hitting at anytime. If any valve and piston makes contact with each other at any point, there is a problem.

    • @MercedesBenzTipsTricks
      @MercedesBenzTipsTricks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the ONLY time that valves and pistons are hitting each other when the engine is not in time.

    Thanks for the video. Piston # 1 will reach TDC twice in a cycle. Once it will be at the point of ignition and once at the end of exhaust. At which TDC should we lock the cams?
    The lines on the camshaft/camshaft housing and "OT" mark will all align only on every second turn of the crankshaft, right?

  • @Erickj99
    @Erickj99 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I installed a new chain, phasers, used the cam alignment tool, installed a new tensioner, and I released the tensioner properly. Everything lined up perfectly. I get code P0017, Cam position sensor bank B, changed it and still there. I heard somewhere that the exhaust cam mark needs to be a line off/tooth off from the housing arrow mark. Is this the procedure that needs to be done when doing the timing chain job?

    My timing marks are off on the cams. I turned the crank by hand and I can see the chain jump. The car previously ran before we took it to the mechanic and said the amount of work needed wasn't worth it. He wants to remove the front timing cover which might result in a front subframe lowering for oil pan removal. I just want to install a chain.
    Could I (in this order)
    1 Remove the cam cover
    2 Remove the chain tensioner
    3 Lift the chain off the cams
    4 Spin the cams carefully (clockwise or counterclockwise) back to the correct line up assuming I don't touch a piston
    5 Lock the cams with the MB tool cam locker as seen in your video
    6 roll a new chain on
    7 carry on back to the similar steps as seen in your video.
    Am i missing some random top dead center on cylinder 1?

    • @MercedesBenzTipsTricks
      @MercedesBenzTipsTricks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, no, on, that's absolute nonsense. It's very easy to set the timing on this engine. No need to do all things that your mechanic said to do. First of all, remove valve cover, front cover, break old chain, connect new one, rail it in, connect new chain together with proper tool, turn engine to top death center, make sure piston #1 on it compression stroke, both cam shafts set correctly with proper Mercedes hold down tool and you're good to go. Put everything in the reverse order and you're done. Hurray!!!

      It deoends on the type of engine. if its interference engine you can have damaged vaves. if its non interference engine than no issues even if the chain breaks in the middle of driving. the only issue will be that you wont be able to drive untill the chain is fixed. BTW I bekive this is a non interference engine.

    • @MercedesBenzTipsTricks

      When it at its correct timing, the tool is use to lock the two cam shafts at the #1 piston top death center not on the exhaust stroke. You can rotate the engine forever. That mean all valves are closed for firing.
