Haha yeah, I love the idea but I find it extremely hard to believe that making an entire rom hack will take up less time than playing through Pokemon Emerald 😅
@@kingcradi diagonal movement you say? I've tried that in my own Pokémon fangame to no avail, do you know if Bisa is using RPGMXP/Pokémon Essentials or something else?
@@kingcradi Please combine those trainers to DOUBLE BATTLE - please! 😭🙏🏼💝 This is so amazing, I'm looking forward. Btw can I play this on the official hardware (modded 3ds)? Also, SUBSCRIBED - you just caught a legendary fan! 🤩
Unless I'm mistaken, Emerald had Double Battles, so you could make the game EVEN SHORTER by merging battles with NPCs that had 3 Pokémon or less, into double battles
To be honest i would not mind a permanent double battle system where trainers have 6 pokemon, so long they were decent teams and not mindless hit hit hit
Reminds me of this japanese rpgmaker parody game called "the rpg where i trimmed too much filler", very similar in concept to this but also everyone had to speak in 5 letters or less
I like the idea. Aesthetically, though, it looks claustrophobic like a NYC apartment. It works as a battle simulator for Emerald more than a way to experience the adventure.
This is such a cool concept! I've thought about getting into romhacking myself to create the opposite of this, where the entire map doubles in size and gets more sub-areas.
@@Miguel92398 Give a mini FRLG some credit, it'd be at least twice the size of that version of Kanto between adding the necessary buildings, bringing the sea areas back and scaling down Pallet Town (which was full sized in that version). It's like an in between.
tbh in gen 3 games the rival has such little relevence and story and the arc has not enough time to be worth it, so i would say wally is your real rival despite only fighting him twice
This is probably one of the best Pokemon rom hack ideas ive ever seen. Ive been trying to play through the series again and catching the games i missed along the away. I don't really have the time to do it though. Having an abridged version of emerald like this is such a great concept.
Juan could be a double battle gauntlet because of the amount of trainers. So you could combine them 2 by 2. That would be neat! Great job this looks fun to Nuzlocke!
this is such a cute idea! i love the idea of a simplified pokemon game that feels almost toy-like. I think it should definitely lean into that simplified angle more, maybe reduce the trainer battles but increase exp gain?

This is amazing! I love Emerald and play it at least once a year but I tend to get bored and drop it around the Slateport area because of aaaaaall the walking, so this is perfect for me! I would advice to modify the experience curve and/or the trainer levels a bit to help with the grinding though -without making it all too easy; it's a tricky balance situation.
This is a crazy idea and I absolutely love it! Can't wait for the demo to try it out! Would definitely love to see a completed version of this one day. It really does sound fun!
Man I would LOVE to play this. This look like such an interesting take on rom hacking, where most hacks nowadays seem to just be difficulty hacks. this feels fresh!
This feels like that level in Mario 64 where you go down a tube to make everything tiny while mario stays the normal size looking gigantic by comparison.
Honestly, this is a neat idea that could be expanded upon. With all the now unaccessible buildings in this version, you probably could use those available maps to fit another entire "mini" region, maybe two
I think this is a great idea. I've seen a couple videos recently where content creators take their mom through a Pokémon game, and this would be perfect for something like that, if you're short on time. I'm eager to see how it turns out.
Even as playing emerald (and Saphire) I hated that we were missing the physical / special split and that Pokemon like Electrobuzz and Magmar didn't got evolutions in Gen 3. I hope at one point you add the split, the evolutions for all Pokemon up to gen 3 and fairy types. Unfortunately most hacks go to far by giving Pokemon illegal abilities, attacks and stats.
I feel like it could use a few more tweaks, but IMO it actually doesn't break immersion much because the scale of everything is relatively uniform. It's comparable to the old FF overworlds.
If you’re removing route trainers, late game boss fights will be too difficult for an emerald based game. You need as much experience as you can get in a casual playthrough
For the many gym trainers problem, what about combining teams together with double battles? That way too you'd have to have a team that's good for singles AND doubles, a challenge in itself
This touches a very interesting topic in gaming, how much can you cut off a game for it to significantly change? And how does it change the experience for the gamer? As in, which style of gameplay do people prefer, more freedom that takes time or cut right to the chase? Awesome experiment, maybe you could ask everyone that plays this version to fill in a questionnaire or something
On the subject of decomp vs binary: Binary is easier for map editing, and decomp is easier for editing teams, especially if you aren't relocating trainers.
Little more to than that I’d say, but decomp can let you overhaul the game engine in different ways and requires more programming skill and binary is just faster for simple edits but you can’t change the game mechanics too much. Both are good in their own ways
Awesome idea, definitely playing it once you release it. I'm also super interested in seeing more video about the hacking, scripting, design choices in mapping or leaving out stuff for the sake of minimalism. Like a narrated time lapse or something similar could make an interesting format maybe
@@yumartins7872 In case the TH-cam algorithm hasn't brought you there yet, you should check out Pokémon Corundum by creator Bisa. Yeah I think most gym battles should probably have 2-3 trainers just increase the number of pokemon if needed and maybe add a double battle on the last npc trainer before the gym leader
I would love to play this. This reminds of a mod for Half Life called "Half Pint". It's the same idea where everything is mini and the story is shortened down so you can play the whole thing in 5 mins.
Can't wait to see Route 119 😂 Jokes aside, this looks so fun!! Like a Polly Pocket version of Pokemon somehow. I would love to see somrone speedrun this when it's done.
It looks really great what you're doing! Since you're doing miniature maps, have you thought of a miniature entire game? Like 1 trainer battle per route/dungeon/gym (the places with 10+ trainer battles maybe 2 trainers), everything at maybe half the level of the original game, starters at level 2. Something people could play through in less than an hour! It would be like Gen II Jhoto but even more extreme lol. It could still actually be pretty challenging because you'd be limited on money, your Pokémon won't be fully evolved at the end of the game (also using mostly NFEs fits with the cute aesthetic), you won't get a lot of good level-up moves, etc.
bro, if you can make this into a romhack that can include more pokemon, mega evolutions, and more regions, by means of saving memory thru map miniaturization, that would be dope as hell. i would love to see a single non buggy romhack *cough ultra shiny gold sigma* like that, that can work without softlocking imagine crystal version (so jhoto and kanto) + orange and sevii islands, the sinnoh region, and maybe even more...
I'll miss the exploration aspect, but this is a neat idea. Curious on how you handle the puzzle aspects like in areas with ice tiles or in using bikes.
