  • Would you ban your child from social media to protect them? Two mums with very different opinions are Lisa Fernandez-Adams who has banned her 11-year-old son from social media, and Dipti Tait who has let her children use social media for several years.

You have to trust your kids. If you keep them away from social media you’re not showing that you trust them.

@@Demonoicgamer666so we should just let kids do whatever? There's no benefit for them to be on the Internet in the first place, so what exactly are you even fighting for? And before you say anything relating to Trust or children learning independence, the Internet is not the best place to start.

@@larrytherustyboii7442 well if you don’t want me to talk about trust or independence then I don’t know what else to say other than, one way or another they are going to learn obviously as a parent you have to guide them. The age you expose your child to the non academic side of the internet is your responsibility as a parent but sheltering them isn’t going to make them wiser. Let them have experience and let them know what ever happens on the internet that scares them is only on the screen and you are there to talk and protect them. I must apologise that I did the exact thing you requested I don’t do but 1. this is my comment thread and 2. As I said if I don’t then there’s really nothing to say.
To wrap up this response you’re the parent if you give your kids a phone you’re consenting to what happens next unless you’re tech savvy enough to know how to block certain content. Accept there’s only so much you can do, again I apologise but you have to trust your kids will understand that just because it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it’s acceptable in real life if you where a good parent though it will show that despite the negative influence your kids listen to you over the brainless nut jobs that where so angry they felt a need to make it other peoples problems.
