    I'd like to all to meet Kevin. Kevin is Seth's friend from down in south Florida who got Seth into road riding (sorry Seth). Kevin also has a background in bmx and cross riding along with a few FL mtb trails under his belt, BUT what Kevin doesn't have is an ounce of full on, full face, lift access, downhilling experience. So today, we are going to fix that!
    Kevin has agreed to be my guinea pig for the day and join me at Bailey Mountain bike park, a park known for being quite steep and gnarly, for his first ever day of downhill mountain biking. More so, Kevin has agreed to let me film the entire experience for your viewing pleasure! We are going to take Kevin through the whole experience from his first leg over a DH bike to his first flow and techy trail and get his instant reaction to it all.
    I basically just met Kevin, but it didn't take me long to figure out that he is a fun dude down to do anything. It also doesn't hurt that is sure seems like he's got a lot of.... uh..... confidence, which, to be honest, can either be a really good or REALLY bad thing. I guess we will just have to find out.
    So what the heck are you waiting for? It's Monday night, and about time you grab a drink, sit back, and chillax. LET'S RIDE!
    LFRHGS

      I race BMX and pumping can be tiring as hell cause you’re using all your muscles to keep your body at the same height and pushing to bike down and pulling up

      Dude, awesome job on your first time out! I hope you're a converted mtb'er now. I enjoy riding road, but MTB is my first love. And the first time I DH'd I had the same experience... tennis shoes + flat pedals = feet all over the damn place! I thought I was gonna die, haha. When I bought a DH bike the first thing I did was put SPD's on it.

    I thought "not again a raodie compromising experiment...."
    😂😂 so many momenst where i was extremely shocked (those shoes) but then laughing hard one second later ("what do you mean? We go for it")
    But the best was you you guided him down that black trail by following. Good connection on the trails between you two. What your actuall "guide" hadn't got at all.

    "Sprinkles are for winners!" F'n classic!!
    I think Kev's BMX background would've helped with being comfortable with berms and rollers I'm impressed at how he handled the sketchy conditions - my first downhill park run was on similar trails and I ended up on my arse a number of times!
    Alex, your positive enthusiasm for riding is so infectious (love Kev's imitations of you!) and you'd make an awesome riding coach. When the time comes to park up Sheila (or the van), I reckon you should buy some land, build some trails and set up a school. The people will come from far and wide.
    Keep smeeasshin' it mate!

    As a 43yr old life time roadie this video is inspiring to see. I've been watching you guys do all your downhill riding and tricky stuff with armchair admiration. I love it but, im a roadie and always aim for the safe, clean route. No risk. So anyway, definitely must try my bike at this. Thanks.

    • @eyeheisenberg2278
      @eyeheisenberg2278 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, your friend seems much more stable, less tricky stuff than you. Keeping wheels to the ground. Did I see that right?

    The true test is to get a guy who has only ever ridden on a road bike. Kevins bmx experience and skills help a lot with mountain biking and he has no fear of speed due to his roadbiking skills and it clearly shows in the video.

    • @partyongarth0
      @partyongarth0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I think a roadie-only rider would struggle more, but as someone who rides both i'd take a punt that they'd be better than someone who hasn't ridden road bikes before. Because they'd already have the strength and fitness aspect. I love both but when i've been off the MTB for a while i find myself having to re-learn some of the skills involved.

      I practiced a lot and after a year my skills were just as good as everyone else I rode with. Just like many things, practice makes a difference. I have also coached timid kids to becoming self-confident riders. Even pros are practicing hard.

    As a roadie myself I’m happy he did so well. I’ll at some point be be a mountainbiker too but I can’t afford to do both right now and I can ride a road bike more frequently. This shit looks so fun though.

    That video was awesome. So much fun. I wish there was a counter on here for every road biker that goes out and get's injured because he has watched this video. That dude was a riot. Plus I think anyone with a BMX background has most of what they need to jump on a mtb. Great job with the stoke Alex. I think you could make watching a person in a wheelchair cross the street exciting.

    I feel Kevin represented roadies very well. Seems like you guys might have another mountain biking buddy, he seemed to like it very well.
