There are a number of firsts happening in this video - first time Seth visited Windrock, the first time I ever stepped foot on a full downhill bike with double crown, and the first time I've ever ridden with a pro racer (Neko Mullaly).
But there is something that definitely isn't a first: Seth talking me into doing some crazy stuff!!
In today's video, the guys at Windrock Bike Park has set me up on there Santa Cruz V10 DH bike so that I could see what it was like to utilize a full 8.5 inches of squish. I spend the early parts of the day feeling the bike out and comparing it to the feeling of my trail bike. Then, as the day progresses, and Seth continues to egg me on, we put this bike to the ultimate test on the steepest trail I have ever seen, yet alone ridden.
This day was an absolute blast, and I hope you all enjoy getting to see the behind the scenes debauchery. I think this video in particular will give everyone a great idea of why we are so stoked on having Windrock Bike Park a mere 3 hours (worth it) from Asheville.
This is going to be a slightly less bumpy ride thanks to the big bike, but regardless, grab that favorite beverage, strap in, and let's rip!!

"It feels like a friggin' couch!" LOL best comment ever
First impressions
That was the same thing that I said when I tested what was to be my first DH bike :D

Random Rider - "This is my first time downhilling ever..."
Pulls up to the steepest trail on the east coast.
lol
Well I guess if he can tackle this, he can tackle anything. R/madlad.
Alex the bike salesman: "it feels like a freakin couch!"
The buyer : ??
Engine 301 woooosh
I so badly want to go to that bike park!

Giggling like a little kid that is clearly spontaneous is indicative of enjoyment beyond comprehension of those who have decided to no longer enjoy the wonderment of discovery. Kudos Alex, you continue to up the ante and inspire. Seth does too BTW.
Man what an awesome comment :D
Keeping the fire alive, even into adulthood. Bike riding makes us feel like kids again, and just all around betters lives!
+The Singletrack Sampler never lose that! I am in my 30s now and still loving life! Anything outdoors that gets blood pumping like biking, kayaking, scuba, etc... keeps you healthy and alive. Of course you have work and responsibilities, but can't let it control you. I have too many friends, that their whole life is nothing only work, chores, and tv. It's sad.
Can't forget the whole feel like you're gonna die nerves.
I think the best part is how supportive you guys are of each other.. it's nice to see these days.
You know a trail is steep when it scares you through a gopro 9:24 haha! Thanks for another great video Alex, can't wait to get over to TN to check out Windrock!
I still feel the nerves come back watching this! But as soon as we dropped in it was straight giggles all the way down :D
on seth's channel the gopro effect was real. this video put it into a little mroe perspective. I'd still like to see some trailside video to really see how steep it is!
Daily MTB Rider heck yeah dude
Daily MTB Rider I would definitely like to check it out but I'm in school and live in Germany
Daily MTB Rider g
Man your story and drive are such an inspiration! Watching you, Seth and Brian just makes me want to ride. Thanks for living the dream and shredding!
If that trail was any steeper it would be a drop
You ain't kiddin!
yeah lol, also I saw seth's stream the other day and I really thought the drama drop was smaller!
that thing is big!
that thing is a legit 10 foot drop with a short run out!
i know its been said plenty of times but your skill level has ramped drastically. Ive been a sub since around the 1K mark and this channel has awesome entertainment value! Keep stoked!
I love to hear it man, thank you!! So rad you have been here since all the way back at 1k!!! Thanks for sticking around :D
During the time with Seth and Phil too come on leaps and bounds. It just makes me want to get out and ride!
The Singletrack Sampler dude you rode with neko thats freaking dope
The Singletrack Sampler he’s lying to you
I think Alex can ride any trail, from the most difficult to the easiest, from the the most exciting to the most boring and make it look and sound fun and exciting! I don’t need to drink coffee anymore with you around 👍👍
I'm pretty new to the MTB world, but videos like this are what really gets me excited about the sport. Riding bikes with some buds and drinking some suds afterward. Awesome times my dude.
you and seth are my favs on youtube
You can definitely see Alex's skill improving this year
It's amazing !
Well done Alexander
Live free, ride hard and get stoked !
Congrats on continuing to expand your limits. Our minds are the biggest factor in both limiting and expanding what we think we are capable of.
i started watching your videos when road to redemption started. and it's so amazing to see your progress and the simple joy you get from riding. greetings from Poland my man.
+Dawid Ochryniak thanks dawid! Hey next video is going to be an extension of something from redemption 17, so keep an eye out!
Alex I just want to tell you that you inspire me so be a better rider and better person everyday thank you. Please keep posting weekly!!
After months missing from my feed, the mountain biking videos make their triumphant return! Missed that incredible energy Alex. Crazy to think that the last time your videos showed up on my feed you were just getting back to riding shape from the collar bone. Now to get back to my daily fix of Brian and Seth. And then hit the trails of course haha.
Alex I found you through Seth and been following you for the last 9-12 months. Your videography and story telling has grown leaps and bounds. Sometimes less is more.
Great last few videos. I hope to ride with you sometime.
I love your videos and this is one of my favorites. I've cleaned up my old Gary Fisher and started riding again. Thanks for the motivation and reminding me how much fun it is to ride!
Awesome video. I’ve been a subscriber since 20-ish K and the fun is just infectious along with better and better editing and riding. Stoked for you, the channel, and the van whenever it happens.
That’s INSANE!!!!! When u can see the steepness through a GoPro POV it’s steep as hell!!!! Wow!!!! I rode a downhill bike for the first the at Thunder Mountain and it took me the whole day to get used to the bike. By the time I was feeling comfortable with it, my legs just quit on me lol. Awesome vid as always
Yo I think I watch you and Seth more than any other channel combined here on TH-cam you guys are my favorite, stay stoked
what i love about these trails is that they look so natural! i can just imagine it only took 3 thing to build them, hand tools, alot of time, and determination!
You got it Ziggy - and that's what we love about those trails!! So raw and natural, they keep you on your toes around every turn
dude, my first time on a DH was a V10 at Bailey. Was rad as hell
+Biking With Bobo it's crazy how much confidence it gives!
no doubt, feels so good on the landings
Biking With Bobo I haven’t been to Bailey yet but I live like 50 mins away 🤔
Aw man, that brings back memories of the summer! Grand Targhee up here has a fleet of V10s and Rocky Mountain Maidens. The V10 totally felt like a couch (lol), and the Maiden felt really lively and playful like it was saying "JUMP THAT!" Both of them really inspire you to go stupid fast, too.
You can tell after the bike park travels with Phil your skills have turned to 🔥. You've inspired me to start booking MTB trips and Windrock is going to be one of my first.
"Hey man I'm Neko" *proceeds to help setup bike* WHAT !?!?
AWESOME FIRST DH BIKE TO RIDE. I have a Santa Cruz V10 C and it's a beast!!
Thanks Benjamin - that thing just soaks everything up, it's crazy!!
YA its great! Also, you should go hit up Bailey mountain bike park! it's in Marshal NC.
Got it already - it'll be in an upcoming vid :D
SWEET!
Its so great to hear your yells lol This is what lured me into the channel way way back then...I love the yells during the sick hits always Alex!! Man that place looks sick!! Gonna be doin some DH out here in CO come next spring!!
Big bikes for big boys.
I must say I'm really impressed and actually a bit jealous about your progression.
I made a comment a while back about your jumping technique but now I'm just impressed.
Greetings from Catalunya
+Dani Vikingo hahahaha I remember that 😜 thanks though dude, I appreciate it as I've been working mad hard!
"If you think that's steep you should ride [insert trail name here]"

The CRACK OF DAWN !!!
Definitely one of my favourite videos on the channel
This video is so clean and so entertaining. So much to comment on. Windrock I'm coming for you.
Man, cool to see you met Neko Mullaly! He broke his wrist in the UCI DH world cup, great to see that he is back out on the bike!
Jacob Zimmerman, truth! Neko has a really gutsy way of rippin the trails. Did you see the last YT video when he was doing laps to get up to race speed for World Champs? It was like he hadn't broken his wrist!
After riding this park a couple weeks ago with alex and seth. The video just doesnt do it justice. Steepest park ive been to!!
Horseface is like straight down!!
There blue trails are blacks at almost anyother park!!!
What a blast thanks for the memories alex!!
I loved the last part of the video where you spend some good time with the guys. It's also what we do with the gang here in Chile. Btw, I've got here because it will be my first time on a DH bike. Thanks for sharing :) Cheers!
You are always trying something new, and I love that about this channel. Keep that spirit and you will always have my subscription to the channel.
Very Sick!! Nice Ride Bro. Keep exploring the limits, you are getting better almost every video!! Awesome Stuff Dude!!
Dude, that's Neko Mulally...?!? You just glossed right over that, next thing we know you will be riding with AG like its no big deal. What a life! Alright, I will watch the rest of the video, maybe you mention later. That's awesome.
In the extended cut we have more of Neko, but regardless of what made it into the video, that dude was super rad!! I couldn't believe how chill and humble he was. We got to ride with him, and needless to say - fast AF!
Yeah, seems like a very chill dude. Big YT Mob fan, cant wait to see them get after it again next season. Love your videos and what you are bringing to the MTB TH-cam community. Great stuff! #LFRHGS
Seth is the kind of friend that elevates you to the next level.
It was fun watching your excitement after hitting the pro GRT line, reminds me of pushing friends at snowshoe to do double black steeps (which I know they have skills, fear holds back) and then when they get to the bottom and see there stoke having done it!! Good for you bro and awesome vid!!
My mind cannot comprehend how quickly you fly through some of this stuff. The number of times I see a stretch in one of your videos and think "this is it... he's dead for sure"
Only the BEST with STS...awesome vid, man...
Thanks Thomas!!
Dope man, just dope.
Seths video tottally did not do this place justice, the atmosphere is insane.
Definatly want to see more of your perspective on things
Great video!! It reminds me of my first time on a DH'er (Old Super 8), and all the times over the years, getting my buddies on one as well. My DH'er has saved my ass so many times I cant count, but I've also had the fastest/worst crashes ever on it too. Good times!!
This bike park seems so chill! I love the atmosphere!
You Seth and Brian are my hero's. Acouple of months ago Brian rode a trail where i grew up Mt. Hough Quincy Calif. made me homesick but hopefully i'll be able to get back there this spring or summer so i can ride it.
There's excited, then there's Singletrack Sampler excited!!
Hi Alex! First of all thx for your great videos. I stopped racing DH about 10years ago. Since then i bought dh bikes and sell them. My SC Nomad was the last reason i sold my GT Fury. You don‘t really need much more than 170mm of Travel and modern geometrey. But the DH makes you feel much more confident ;) all the best from Austria!
I've ridden steeps like that but none as long! Around here we have these crazy chutes of loam that you brake and pray down but none as long as that!!! Made me stoked my man
Awesome vid, looks like a pretty awesome place to ride! i rode the V10 at whistler for the first time back in september, amazing bike!
This is so good! I’m 42 And I am just found this passion To ride a mountain bike, I believe that is never too late to start something you like doing it,
And live free. Thank you Alex
sweet times, what could you wish more? good trails, nice people and cold beer. cheers
Man I loved how you didn’t spend half the video at the car shop like a lot other youtubers
Killing it dude. I remember my first time, got super cocky, overshot a jump, crashed and burned.... was such a good daty.
lolol wait til you see one of my upcoming vids - a buddy of mine did something very similar
can't wait dude.
Ride Rate Review - lol yeah my first time I bombed a big huck, saved by the travel, my first duh rig was a giant glory 09 and it ploughed through everything lol
"This isn't carbon. It is carbon!" 😂😂
Wow i love your enthusiasm it's so infectious, i wish i'd been able to do this when i was a lot younger lol.
I just started watching your channel (I just got into mountain biking), and I gotta say, you have the best videos! This makes me really want to try DH! Have a Merry Christmas dude, hope you make it up to the northwest soon! We got some good riding up here!
+Clarissa Webb thank you SO MUCH Clarissa 😁 so stoked to welcome you to the channel
I like how your stoked on riding any bike and your videos are so sick
Just watching this i'm grinning ear to ear, I can only imagine how much fun that is!
Wow so glad i found this video. I had no idea about windrock park and I live like 2 hours east of it. Adding this one to the list!
+PIRATEorNINJA holy crap, what are you waiting for?? GO!! 🤘
Yo Alex! Love the channel!!!! Just snagged 1 of the "broken not buried" tee shirts. While I haven't sustained any serious injuries lately, it still fits. I'm ALMOST old enough to be your dad, but the stoke your vids give def keep me young and on the bike. I showed my wife the shirt and she loved it! Wish I could support you on Patreon, but hard times don't allow right now. Keep doing what you're doing!!! BTW, you look exactly like one o my best buds from high school, 'cept his hair was down to his ass. Hope you gety as much "tail" as he did!!!! LOL
Super badass! Love the video! I want to ride a DH bike so bad. Merry Christmas to you and all the STS fans!
+Everyday MTB Merry Christmas dude!! 🎁🎅
My heart was pounding when you went down the pro grt line
Awesome ride dude! This is true MTB life here... Friends, bikes, epic trails... No winter or snow can ruin fun time and ride :)
Awesome to see how much fun this dudes having, just makes you wanna get out there 🤘🤘
That park looks like so much fun. Specially the comradery. Never realized that comRADery had the word RAD in it. Makes sense!
Oh man they're fun in the rough stuff hey?! HUCK THE COUCH
lolol yea and I still don't even think I got that front end plush enough. It's almost hard to wrap your mind around just how hard you can plow it into the chunk!
The Singletrack Sampler I like turtles
Love to see all you guys meaning you, Seth, Brian, Phil and Bobo ride all together! That would be super Epic!!!
and we all love to ride together!
Officially the Kings of the Mountains!!
Cool Vid, Alex.
Reminded me of funny situation when two neighbors invited me to a bike tour... and forgot to tell me that there would be steep portions similar to those you rode.
I was sitting on a XC bike... hardtail, no dropper post. Stopped at one jump, thinking: „should I jump, should I not?“... freakin steep.
Thanks God I didn’t. :)))) For such Terrain one definitely needs such a „couch-bike“. :)))
Gonna hit it this week stoked can't wait to shred it
I really enjoy watching this one! new subscribers here. I'm stoked by the dh community! . its was fun and everybody is so supportive and radical! haha. I don't know how to put it since this sport is new to me. I only do surfing but I really wanna try on mountain biking.(if that's the words)
Man, that was bananas. You normally go fast, but it looked super fast.
Now that was fun to watch!!! Hell you got me laughing and I wasn't there.. Must be something in the trees maybe. LOL
It's cool when you have friends like Seth to ride with ya on some scary new lines.
Wow! Great first ride on a dh bike. Good job!
the atmosphere at that park looks amazing!
+god 709 so much fun!!
Dude, Windrock rock is awesome! The trails look awesome and I've never seen Trails so steep in my life! Plus having a campfire, it all looks like a lot of fun! And that was a lot of beer too LOL
I love how he randomly screams like he is a bear
Absolutely sick bro. That place looks amazing
Its SO MUCH FUN!
what wheel size do you guys use these days, im a 26" user so i wonder what u guys use these days ;)
Starting off today's video with bad news about Sheila! Noooo! I hope that wasn't a huge hit financially. Second, I thought I remembered you hitting Windrock with Seth!
2:27 - "It feels like a freakin' couch!" I have no idea what that means, but that needs to be on a t-shirt!
5:25 - Dude, you actually sounded like you were getting nervous there. Maybe just due to concentration? It's okay if you were getting nervous. Even the best get nervous sometimes, right?
5:46 - Looks like one heck of a rut, for sure!
7:00 - "We're skipping the black, we're skipping the double black and we're going to right to the Pro GIT? I don't know, man!" Stop making sense, Alex! Sheesh! 😂
7:44 - I don't know why, but I'm taking encouragement from watching you send something that makes you nervous. I think it's good for all of us to see that there are always going to be trails that challenge us. Even those who I consider to be very skilled have trails that push their limits. Thanks for sharing this part, Alex.
12:43 - No. No. No, no, no, nonononono. NO.
It looks like Windrock is the place to be, man. I was looking at their web site on Tuesday, and there's no beginner trails. I don't know if I'm good enough for green trails, but there's only one way to find out. Thanks for bringing us along on your awesome ride and for sharing your experiences, Alex! And I hope Sheila is okay!
Stay upright and keep the rubber side down.
#lfrhgs
-Brian
Hey Brian, great news!! They are working on putting in a green trail!!
Thanks btw, part of the reason I love to show that I too get nervous and then still manage to conquer stuff is to help motivate others to do the same!!
I was lent a good bike [Giant Reign] for a cross country ride, and it felt like a gorgeous squashy sofa ...loved it!!!
Holy s**t brother, stuff looked outrageous! Keep the incredible content coming, for those of us stuck in offices...we need it!
You know I got your back Matt!!
Crazy to see how much has changed in 1 year
Bro that was a fun vid... I was laughing with you guys going down horse face. I found myself trying to drop my office chair and leaning over the back wheel which it doesn't have... Merry Christmas Alex!
hahahaha that's hilarious
mountain biking is the best thing you can do with your pants on! awesome vid alex
The shirt/glove matching combo has gotta do something for steep riding confidence 😎
I was trying to channel my inner Canadian
Next it will be a helmet, trousers, socks and shoes... Oh and the bike and bag.
If you're gonna DH, you gotta do it in style!
Just love your videos Homie! Keeps me hyped to get out on my own bike!
+htweelz mtb hype!!🤘
great ride, with a fire pit waiting at the end... that's a great run
Hellyeah man, that place looks sick. such a cool atmosphere.
Hey man I miss your videos so bad and I know life happens but broooo nobody is making first person videos anymore I'm trying to make them but they're not as close as yours so keep up man! 🔥
You guys giggling on the super steep one, so good
you inspire and rock on! great ride! now i want a DH bike!
Great video looks like loads of fun. Cheers from Northern Cali...
Windrock looks awesome! Definitely need to make a trip!

qwerty no
Ayden Watts it’s hilarious
Ross Clapton 😂😂😂😂
Gnarly! Hope the beers make it into the Bailey episode when you get to it 😉🍻
Was a super fun day!
"we got a grow going" my maaan
I dont know about the bike but I can sure say that the camera has very good stabilizer....even with such a bumpy ride the image quality is very stable
