Lol I’m not sure where the 6 month thing came from with baby sleep! Our pediatrician said no more night feeds and leave her alone to cry at 6 months because she was manipulating us. Needless to say, I never saw that pediatrician again. My little one stopped waking for night feeds when she was ready. She started sleeping through the night when she was ready. I work full time but still continued to soothe my baby overnight every time she woke. So glad you’ve leaned into going with the flow, it’s life changing 🤍

I'm watching this as I rock my 13 month old to sleep for his nap. He's my 3rd, and he is by far the one who has needed the most help with sleep. He still wakes up at night, and I still rock him back to sleep. My 5 year old sleeps all night every night, and my 3 year old still ends up in our bed most nights. Every baby is so different, and there is nothing wrong with doing what feels right for each individual child ❤

I relate to you so much when you said the whole sleep train topic triggers your PPA. It did for me too. My PPA and PPD was so bad I was suicidal. I’m SO proud of you for talking about normal infant sleep. You normalize their night wakings but with such a gentle confidence. I wish I watched someone like you when I had my first. It would have changed my postpartum life ❤

there's nothing more important than being there for your kid in every unique way they need you! i was one of those "difficult" kids, but my mom never pushed me to be "good" in other people's eyes. she wanted me to be happy - on my own terms. and it worked wonders, if i say so myself! :-) you're doing amazing as Connor's mom. he's a unique little human, no two babies are the same!

Over the years I’ve learned that when your voice gets deeper when you’re talking about something, you REALLY like it. I first noticed it when you were still in NY, and now with both the baby books and the sandals that happened. It’s my way of knowing whether to look into something or not, it’s one of my favorite things about you!! 🤩 I hope I’m even half as good of a mom as you are one day.

Reminder to new moms: social media will SELL you things to make you believe that it will “fix” your child or your life as a mother. I wish someone would’ve told me to realize that EVERY BABY IS UNIQUE so it’s ok for them to need whatever from you, to wake, eat, sleep, be fuzzy etc. getting judgement from people is hard, I can’t believe it’s now built in on stuff such as a baby monitor smh.
Do your best, that’s all your baby needs ❤❤❤❤❤

  • @mahloeree

100000% agree. There’s almost too much information on parenting these days that no wonder new moms get overwhelmed and depressed. I’ve done a hybrid of everything and you know your family and baby best!
We have the bebcare monitor cause it doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi at all. It’s “old school” when it comes to monitors and we love it. You’re doing great mama.

I experienced something so similar with taking my new puppy to the vet! The vet we used to see was so grumpy and judged me because our puppy would be super excited to be at the vet and went on and on about how I needed to "be the alpha" and "show my puppy who's boss". We're working on calming her excitement but she's just a puppy, better she's excited than scared of the vet!! Same thing also I felt super rushed once he finished lecturing us he breezed through the actual examination. I switched vets and it has made all the difference!! So worth it to find vets and doctors who aren't gonna judge you for trying your best and actually take the time with you to explain things and answer questions.

We sleep trained our 5 month old and it has made him a much better sleeper BUT he still wakes up at least twice throughout the night to feed. I have simply come to terms with the fact that he still needs those night feedings and I just can’t take that away from him, even if that means I’m “spoiling” him. The biggest thing I’ve learned in my motherhood journey is that there is so much shame in sleep training, and not sleep training, and all things motherhood. You just have to trust your gut and do what feels right for your baby. Your videos have actually assisted me in shifting my mentality :)

Thank you for the mom chat! Very relatable. I have a 5 month old (and a 7 and 4 year old). They all have/had different sleep patterns/needs. Letting go of the control is hard-we can control a lot but we really can’t control their sleep and that’s ok! It took me a long time to be at peace with that.
As I watched your video, my Pampers app popped up a message about sleep training and tips to get my 5 month old to sleep through the night. There’s so much pressure for your baby to meet certain milestones. It is hard to remember/remind ourselves that each baby is unique and marches to the beat of their own drum ❤️

Oh my goodness yes !! Your chat about baby sleep is so relevant to me atm !!
When we were really struggling with sleep regressions etc I had a few really good chats with mums around me and that helped heaps as well !
I found knowing less about the topics actually helped because I was just focused on how my baby is going at the present moment , not what might happen etc
Thanks so much for your videos 🙌🏾☺️

Love your mom chats!! I agree with you that finally deciding to stop obsessing about sleep is the best thing to do and takes such a weight off your shoulders. My twins went through a sleep regression a couple months back and I was so frustrated but my fiancé reminded me that they are babies and most babies don’t sleep perfectly! It’s tough though when the first question people always as you is how are they sleeping!!

Yes! To just doing what your baby needs. My baby girl, almost four months, also does her own thing. It works for us. I used to obsess as well and felt like I wasn’t being a good mom because I wasn’t doing what the gurus on the Internet were telling me to do 😅 but the sleep tips, schedules, etc just didn’t work. Loved this video - you bring a complete sense of peace! I relate to so much that you say and share! I am a 1st time mom to a 7 month old and would try ALL the things to get him to sleep longer and nap better…my whole life revolved around his sleep and it was so stressful. As soon as I let that go, everything had been better. Now we are at a point where sometimes he sleeps through the night, sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes he wakes once, sometimes is 3 times. I’ve learned to let go of expectations.

Thank you for being open about your sleep experience. My second is 8 months old and sounds so much like your son! My first was an easy, textbook baby and slept on a great schedule-I even had to cut off her naps and wake her up in the morning because she slept so much. My son however…short naps, multiple night wakings, would love to contact sleep ALWAYS. And we have tried all the sleep training tactics. Each baby really is unique and only you as his mom know what’s best. Other people can have great advice, but you are the only expert on your baby. I keep telling myself that I will sleep again someday 🤪

I love your motherhood talks! It helps me as a new mom and I love reading the comments of support from other mamas ❤️ My son usually wakes up at least once in the night to eat but other times it is 2-3 times to eat or just to cry a bit and be rocked back to sleep. Every baby goes at their own pace. You're doing what is best for Connor and that's all that matters! Also tip I learned the hard way, roll baby's sleeves or keep his outfit off when feeding lol my son also likes to take the spoon and feed himself which gets messy. He has had beechnut purees already and mushed fruit in those silicone pacifier feeder things (which is also messy) I got a free variety pack of cerebelly purees from my enfamil rewards (yay) and also bought serenity kids meat puree pouches with wild caught salmon, chicken, and turkey ones mixed with veggies which is ready for him to try when he turns 6 months on June 1st! Can't wait and can't believe our babies are eating foods already

I remember after having our first telling my husband I need to unlearn everything I “learned” while I was pregnant and learn OUR baby. As you said we’re all on this journey and doing our best. The best sleep tip I received was to wake my baby up at the same time everyday with wake windows it kinda would help us map our day. We woke up everyday at 6 and it really helped with some structure.

PREACH! Ours just turned 9 month old and STILL wakes up twice a night (every 4 hours) and will only sleep after a feed both times. Prior to 6 months she did sleep 5-7 hours straight and then we hit a regression and it’s never been the same! We were waking every 1-3 hours and tried sleep training. It didn’t work. I typically do not comment but your view on “mother tribes” and how you don’t necessarily fit into one BUT you’re doing the best you can, made me super emotional. I’m only 10 weeks right now (FTM) and learning to cope with 24/7 nausea is a learning curve in itself that I know is going to get a whole lot harder. I’ve watched you for the past year or so and have just been in awe of the person & mother you have become. Preparing for a baby myself, I totally can see your point because up until watching this video, I told myself I was going to follow a routine to the T. My baby is going to be perfect, I’ll figure it out no matter what and that is just not the reality sometimes. Sometimes you have to do what’s best for you. I’ve felt that way before getting pregnant, I told myself I’d eat better, I’d do whatever I could to keep myself healthy and I can’t even keep food down right now yet alone go for a walk. I’ve really had to adjust my expectations the first trimester and I should adjust my expectations from here on out. There is no one size fits all approach, and if there is, great! But I need to be open to the fact that baby’s will do what is best for them and not every method I try will work perfectly everytime. Just hear to say, IM WITH YOU & I hear you. Keep up the good work mama❤

I know I am so late to the party so I'm not sure you'll see this, but (if you're still looking for a new monitor) I use the vetch monitors on Amazon that don't connect to an app. It is so special that everyone in these comments is together alongside you in getting hounded by mom content and what's "best" but we're also all focusing on what our babies need from us. Thank you for this little community Michelle, because the internet is not always a great place but I'm glad I've found your little piece of it 😊

None of my babies slept through the night until close to a year. It’s totally normal! Now they’re 10, 7 and 4 and at least one of them still wakes up in the night multiple times per week. Just like you said they have bad dreams, or they start feeling sick in the night, or they need help with their fan, or maybe they wet the bed. Sometimes my 10 year old comes out of his room late at night to talk to us about things hes been wrestling over and they’re such special times. Having your child sleep through the night is not the end all be all. You’re doing a good job!

Thank you for sharing your vulnerable thoughts about pressure to do things a certain way and fit into a box. Maybe it's because I'm having my first child at 30 (currently pregnant, 12+5!)... or maybe it's because I don't scroll social media much at all anymore. But I feel very little pressure to do things a certain way, read lots of books, etc. But your whole job is social media, your entire life is spent under the scrutiny of random people who don't always see you as a real person, so it makes sense if you feel extra sensitive to all the different tribes and worry whether you're doing things right. And that's aside from the fact that (these days at least) you're a younger mum. But mama, from where I'm sitting (with 0 experience of kids haha) you're doing so great. 💖
The only resources I'm going to look at are the practicalities of how to do stuff (e.g. feed/swaddle), how to set myself up for postpartum (THANK YOU for being so honest about your experiences), and I'm also gonna dip my toes into elimination communication/baby-led weaning stuff too and see if it works for us. If people judge or don't like what I do, they can get stuffed, tbh. Parenting looks to be mostly vibes-based anyway - that's what we have instincts for. You noted that there are SO MANY different ways of doing things, and yet pretty much all the ways result in a healthy well-adjusted child. So there's a lot of margin for error, we won't always get things right. We just try our very best, and that will be enough

I’m someone who is child free (both that I don’t have kids and am not sure if I ever will) and I just want to say that despite how I feel about that your content is so so refreshing and honest and real. It’s sort of grounding? I really appreciate your content and was afraid I wouldn’t because I thought it would be too baby-focused (which is obviously totally okay!!!) but you’re still relatable and just the way you speak about it is comforting. Many blessings to you and your family and I’ll still be here along the way!! 🤍🤍🥰

We use the infant optics baby monitor! I love it. I wanted it because it was separate from needing my phone and didn’t require wifi. My baby is 6 months old too and some times wakes up, sometimes doesn’t, sometimes goes to bed easily, sometimes doesn’t, sometimes needs fed at 4 am, sometimes doesn’t. I feel ya!

I just love your videos! They are so relaxing and beautifully made. I’ll tell you my method for getting my babies to sleep through the night. To preface, I’m old enough to be your grandmother, and when I had my first baby (1974), the common practice was to give them baby cereal at bedtime. And believe it or not, pediatricians recommended starting this at 2-4 weeks! I was 19 years old, and that’s what everyone did, so I did, too! I did this with all 4 of my babies. Probably not what I’d do now if I had it to do over, but they did sleep through the night! 😂 I think you’re a great mommy, and Connor looks happy and healthy. You’re doing a wonderful job!

So I never pressure myself with my baby's progress. Letting him take it at his own pace. Everything will be well Michelle!

Your vlogs are so peaceful, honest and beautiful! We have two boys, 2,5years old and 1 year old and they’ve never slept through the night! 😅My little one still wakes up for a little bit 3 times every night and I’m fine with that! Our „big“ boy needs support but he sleeps like a rock 😂 we live in Europe and the whole sleep thing is so chill, why do people stress so much about something so normal? I just don’t get it…with our first one I also tried all the tips and nothing worked! Last time around I started immediately with co sleeping and it was the best decision ever!! He stars the night in his crib (for safety reasons) and when I go to sleep we snuggle together and I love it so so much 🥰
Right now my baby sleeps on my lap and it is so precious…today he took his first steps and I once again realized that time flies! And our little babies grow up so fast! Enjoy 🥲❤️

I know I’m a little late to the video but I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your mom talk. I have a 7 month old who still doesn’t sleep through the night. In fact, she won’t sleep without being held at all. We have had to resort to cosleeping in order for me to get any sleep whatsoever. All babies are different and some just need more than others. I’ve also felt like I’ve tried everything (except cry it out because I’m not about that) Our situation may not be ideal but it’s what we have to do. You’re doing great and your baby is doing great ❤

Omg your baby monitor message!!! Who thought that would be okay/helpful?! My baby was actually a great sleeper for the first six months, frequently slept through the night or only woke up once after a very long stretch, usually about 7h. But as soon as we started weaning her boy oh boy that all changed! We went through teething, and a pretty strong separation anxiety bout and in general she just wanted to be held and cuddled. Not gonna lie, those nights when she woke up every hour were not fun. My husband and I have been doing shifts like you and Aiden to get at least some sleep. She is ten months now and we have started night weaning her, and last night she slept through from 8pm to 5:30am without waking!! Nothing is forever, babies are all different and go through different things. Being a parent is hard enough without the added pressure of comparing your situation to some unachievable ideal. I’m so glad you got to a point where you’re confident in your capabilities and are able to let go of the stress. I’ve been loving following your journey while I’m also going through first time motherhood at the same time, you’re always so lovely and supportive. Keep it up, Conor is a lucky baby ❤

I just had a baby too, so I'm loving the mum content. I loved your comment about people trying to sell things! I don't know why, but it honestly hadn't even entered my mind that this is the main reason for the billions of reels etc that are being pushed into my feed from sleep coaches etc. My 4 month old actually does sleep through the night most nights and he has done that totally on his own, but he cat naps something chronic in the day and I'm a lucky Aussie who gets 12 months maternity leave, so it really doesn't phase me, but every now and then all this content makes me stress that maybe I should be putting him on a schedule and trying xyz to get him to nap better. I worry that I'm somehow harming him long term, but he's a super happy, chilled, healthy boy who always seems totally refreshed after his 30-40 minute naps. Sure, sometimes it'd be nice to have a bit longer to do the housework, but I try to remind myself that I'm literally here (home from work) to be his mother and 4 months has already gone so fast already. This is the last day he will ever be this little and need me this much. Every day he is growing and changing and developing and that's exciting but it also makes me feel a little sad that it's going to pass me by so fast. Thank you for reminding me that all these people have a vested interest because they want to make money as sleep coaches and on plans and guides. I truly had forgotten!! ❤

Yess! I’m also a FTM your age, my son is 5 months and I’ve tried it all for sleep and some nights he sleeps great and others not and I’m always like obsessing over what I did differently the nights he slept great. I think it’s just up to the baby! Also, same! I hated our pediatrician I would get major anxiety and stomach aches before because every experience was terrible. He has his 6mo appt with a new one, who seems to be more individual with her patients and more warm and cozy in the office. Hoping it goes well!
