Thank you for sharing. I'm right search a set of finish chisel. On my opinion, chisel handle are not a problem with woodworker, they are easy to deal with. And i will choose PM-11 between them, first reason was you sayed PM-11 blade edge might be scratch your hand, yes but i will say care you hand, but do not grind it off, that is a clean cut finish blade want, and then the back of blade looks gray but not shining like other chisels is beacause PM-11 was a carbon powdered steel, that is exactly what i'm looking for, powdered steel was a superfine steel, can make a nice smooth cutting edge.
While I don't have experience with Blue Spruce gear, I do like like the Veritas butt chisels. I use the 2" extensively for cleaning up big tenons or for mortises when doing a bridle joint. On the other end of the scale, Robert Sorby pairing chisels are great this for this kind of work too.
I have never ground down any of my Veritas chisels. The metal does tend to chip rather than fold over. For my hand the Veritas is a great handle (I’ve copied it for other tools).
@@BatCaveCreations I’m still somewhat new to them! I was using Japanese style chisels before. I also have some Richter chisels (an obvious choice for me lol). I ended up not liking the metal rings on the Japanese chisels because they were damaging my brass mallet. I’ve been using them on bloodwood, which is pretty darned hard. I’ve chipped them a couple times, but I think that it was because I wasn’t playing nice with that hard wood. Love the feel in my hand.
Great point about the Japanese style chisels. I am planing a video trying out Japanese chisels cus I never have. I'll keep that in mind for sure! We need to do a collab one day!
What kind of work do you do? Do you ever find the length of the butt chisel to be a detriment and you need extra length? I have LN at the moment but seriously thinking about selling and going the BS Butt Chisel route. Thanks!
On the Lee Valley products........if you were to break a chisel handle in normal use.......I can't think of a better company than Lee Valley to contact for help.......their customer service and stance behind their products is unmatched.......as you are saying, "you have heard of people claiming to have broken a chisel handle".......that is hearsay at best......why not call Lee Valley and ask them what they would do if you broke a handle and include their response in your review??
Those people showed me pictures of the broken chisel handle.... And deff not denying lee valley customer service. It's one of the best I've ever encountered. It's one of the reasons I started the Veritas Tool Nerds Facebook group lol
I find it improbable that a company as well run as LV did not do their due diligence in testing the reliability of their chisel handles before marketing them......they do not want to sell tools that will have problems and fail in use......contact them tomorrow and ask these questions directly to them and then report what you have learned......I think you are one of the better tool reviewers on YT......I'm trying to encourage you to be one of the most thorough......@@BatCaveCreations
If you’ve sharpened a chisel or plane iron down to where it can’t be used anymore, you should have made enough money doing so that you can replace them without caring about the price!
Useful, yes. Marketing, yes.

A half inch wide butt chisel is something that's worth keeping in your shop apron.
Great video thanks for sharing
Can you sharpen the Bluespruce butt chisel with the Veritas sharpening jig
considering the short blade?
you can at 30* when you get to 25* its sketchy lol 20* is pushing it lol
He said butt! Yeah my butt chisels are worn out chisels with small handles. But they do work. Been thinking of getting a new set.
I thought about that too tbh! buy the full size then just wait a few year but... i am inpatient hahhah

Oooh I didn't know veritas made a 2" I may like that better than the narrow one I borrowed for the video!
@@BatCaveCreations Its basically thick #4 iron with handle. Watch those bevels though. Sharp as ****.
@@jajmcg That sounds amazing!!! Even if i dont use it i would want to stare at it hahahah

Thank you!!!
I wanted to be the butt of a joke but my butt chisel fell up my butt, and I'm gonna need a ton of butter.
Hahahaha oh my!!! I'll be praying for you hahahahah
I try to use butt chisels as my primary right now and I use the wood river ones, which have an excellent form factor and are very affordable
Those are on my list to try! How are you liking the style as your go to?

Blue spruce is over priced .
Your best video thumbnail yet... 😂
Hahah Thank you!!! I was sure how it was gonna go over but it had to be done haha
I have a set of Stanley 750 chisels, and all the 1/2" and above ones have less than 1" left on them, very butty feel.
You touched the butt
Butt chisel, that "cracks" me up.😂😂😂
Hahaha yes!!! Thats perfect!!
Once again, Blue Spruce for the win. Clearly, you are a fan of their tools. For butt chisels, there shorter lengths does look better.
I am becoming more and more obsessed with them the more tools of theirs I try haha
Haha. Thumbnail gold.
