    Great video. Blue Spruce chisels are the best. They will last you a lifetime. I have their bench and dovetail chisels and they are scary sharp.

    These chisels are great, I own one of the smaller buttchisels which are handy for getting into tight spaces, I personally prefer lie Nielsen chisels myself! They just feel nicer in my hand

      I own a full set of the Blue Spruce chisels and some of their other tools as well for many years. They are very nice indeed. But, I always seem to reach for my Lie Nielsens as they feel better in my hand too. Could be because the LN were the ones that I started with and it’s just muscle memory. You can’t go wrong with either manufacturer.

      @@lanceyohe6026 yeah it’s probably that, I did some of my first joinery with a friends Stanley SW set and they felt comfy, over here in the UK the blue spruce stuff is mega expensive, never thought I’d say this myself but the LN stuff is drastically cheaper over here

      Ive been looking at both the Blue Spruce and Narex Richter chisels. Both look very nice!

    • @parjau4554
      @parjau4554 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jasonhagen The Blue Spruce are 2.5x the price of the Richters but the flatness of the back (which allows for probably unique sharpness) is something else.
      Narex are arguably the best value chisels on the market.

    I haven’t spent any money on a decent pair of chisels. I bought my first set at Lowes. And i SUCKED at using them. I tried squaring out a corner that was rounded because of the router bit. It was ugly. Now I have learned it’s all about the sharpness. Maybe I don’t suck as much as I thought. But I’ve never learned HOW to sharpen.

    • @sedgetool
      @sedgetool  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Learn how to sharpen first ...then choose the right chisels... the one's you bought at Lowe's may good to practice your sharpening skills....

    Happy New Year! Thank you for such great videos, I watch all your videos and have learned a lot. I grew up in NH and ME, then moved to Fort Lauderdale for 30 years before moving to Hawaii seven years ago. Who knows, we crossed paths at one time. I've been looking at the Lie Nielson chisels for some time now but I like the Blue Spruce chisels too. They are about the same price, and the steel seemed to be the same. Is there any reason you chose the Blue Spruce over the Nielsen? Thank you!

      Happy New Year....I grew up in Maine and moved to Ft.Lauderdale for 25 years...moved up to Indiana 17 years ago...wow our paths are quite similar..except for the Hawaii part.... The Blue Spruce chisels are the only ones I have experienced..... I have heard great things about the Lie Nielson chisels as well....... I think you would be happy either way....

    I use my Blue Spruce chisels as man-glitter. Bite the bullet and buy the best chisels, you only need 3-4 and they are a lifetime investment. Blue Spruce’s are pricey but not Festool pricey…

    I can not yell a lie, I have two small sets of cheep steel chisels form HF. Most of my wood working is with manufactured wood applications. I use them mainly for scraping glue, tiny cuts, trimming edge banding, and dowels. So sharpening my junk chisels a couple of times a year is not a problem to achieve wicked sharp levels, besides its a evenings activity in the shop. They sit on my main tool cabinet so family members can come in and help themselves. It's amazing how they can help separate stuck car parts. However, between some of my parts boxes, are special places where I keep my 1/2" and a 3/4" Lee Nielsen's. They cut like nothing else, and only come out for the real wood, when I'm alone.
