Happy about Teo Yoo and Past Lives noms obviously, The Boy and the Heron, All of Us Strangers, and Vivian Oparah and Rye Lane noms... Cole's description of Saltburn 😆 "It's designed to make you go 'Oooo! Ahh!'" lol. (I love the score, though).
@@kassiogomes8498 I didn't like Saltburn, either, and not every critic loved it. Concept has been done, before. (The Talented Mr. Ripley, etc.) Despite me personally not liking the film, I still loved the score, the cinematography, and the acting by Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike.
@@nicoleann0703 All concepts of all movies have been done before. Almost nothing is completely new. That's not a detriment. It's like saying a movie can't be good because it's a remake. Like??? And Saltburn isn't like Mr Ripley. First of all, they aren't even in the same genre. Saltburn is a comedy, Talented Mr Ripley is a drama. The characters are completely different. Ripley is smart, funny, and charming. He is likable. And more importantly, he is actually poor. He envies Dickie's money. Dickie's lifestyle is very fun for all people, he is always on vacation and partying with friends. What makes Oliver's obsession so interesting and different is that he's extremely basic, dull, and uninteresting. What he is looking for with the Cattons isn't exactly money. He wants old money, he wants the prestige, the fancy dinners, the butlers, the eccentricity of these aristocrats. Unlike Ripley, Oliver doesn't need the Cattons to be rich. He is an Oxford student, he can be rich on his own. But he can't be an aristocrat on his own. Mr Ripley is a thriller about a charming con man looking for money. Saltburn is satire about middle class and their obsession with the vanity of the super rich.

My opinion with the BAFTAs is that it's not a way to figure out snubs or surprises, but as a way to clear up the rubble and make a path to the tent pole films. Think about it, All Quiet last year got 9 nominations, and the BAFTAs rewarded that film like crazy. In 2022 The Power of the Dog got 8, with several surprises in it's collection. Those surprises got The Power of the Dog it's 12 nominations. So with the BAFTAs, keep an eye out for Oppenheimer in makeup and costumes, and Barbie in supporting actress. Those categories might seem strange now, but the BAFTAs are showing us that those films might clean up there.
I don‘t understand that the Society of the Snow was rejected for the Oscar and BAFTA Best Sound category. The Society of the Snow gave amazingly detailed sound Society of the Snow is the same true story as Alive in 1993, starring Ethan Hawke. The sound design of this movie is amazing. It gives you detailed sounds such as stepping on the snow, the sound of an airplane crash, and an avalanche, and the CG is amazing
It was rejected for the Oscar ? :0 I just saw that movie and it broke my heart into a million little pieces. It at least got nominated at the globes but Anatomy Of a Fall won over it
All of us Strangers being snubbed for cinematography is surprising. I’m the opposite. I found the Robert Downey Jr. section of Oppenheimer to be the weakest part of the film and in large part because he played Strauss like a one-dimensional weasel and the case for or against nuclear weapons became less about morality vs geopolitics and more about GOOD exemplified by Oppenheimer and EVIL exemplified by Downey Jr. Black vs White / Good vs Evil are too one-dimensionally boring for a film as ambitious as Oppenheimer. It’s cheap and convenient. Downey Jr.’s performance lacks any complexity and really dragged the film down from a perfect film to a merely v good one. Thank gawd for Cillian Murphy and the other two sections of the film.
I thought Charles Melton was the soul of May December. Julianne Moore overacted somewhat and was really unlikable in the film which skewed our perception of the character and the story. Natalie Portman I found rather uninteresting. The most Earth-bound and heartbreaking character was Charles Melton’s, who really created an unexpectedly heartfelt character slowly falling apart at the seams, as opposed to what could have been a one-dimensional and caricatured interpretation. I am no Maestro fan BUT the Cinematography is fantastic and woule be deserving of a nom I think.
@@shawnykidsmusicI think a lot of the techs for that movie are great and deserving!
@@Theodora7 Agreed! On a technical level it's a very well made movie and deserving of some tech noms. My biggest problem is the script...
BAFTA have gendered rules for Director so Haynes missed on 8 not 15! Cause there's 8 female and 8 male longlisted
Hello Kitty!
It literally makes no sense to snub Melton for May December.
No Past Lives on casting is insane
I don't get the buzz in the comments about the annoying child of Anatomy of a Fall.
I think you’re wrong about
“society of the snow”.
The academy will give it a lot of love
So happy to see a huge majority of people wanting to see Milo Machado Graner nominated! He really, truly deserves it
No
@@pb.j.1753 thanks for identifying yourself as the minority
Julianne Moore was the best performance in May December
If I'm being honest, I'm kinda glad Godzilla Minus One didn't get VFX. Am I the only one who felt the effects were super hit or miss. Some scenes it looked great, others it looked like a video game.
Maestro is receiving alot of backlash.
I have a strong feeling paul Giamatti may win best actor at the oscars
its just twitter talk, no bearing on awards
No love for A thousand and one anywhere. Why?!?
I'm surprised that Ben Whisaw got in for Passages but FRANZ ROGOWSKI couldn't squeeze in there.
I am surprised Wishaw got in in the first place since the movie is ass
no charles???!!!! WHAT
No Ryan Gosling.... 😢
He is in😅
He got in, he’s just not on the screen for some reason. I thought the same thing cause I had it on mute
worth noting that may december wasn't distributed by netflix here, but by sky cinema: and a LOT of people here could not care less about sky as a provider both of media and of broadband, even if bafta members have been given screeners they might not have watched them because of the weird standing they have in culture.
Saltburn nation raise!
