Having listened to Chelsea's entire discography on repeat over the last several months, this was an incredible song to discover at random. The lyrics effortlessly evoke We Have Always Lived in the Castle. In fact, I'm reminded of so many gothic/folk creations ranging from the art of John Kenn Mortensen to The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake. I particularly love this song as it reminds me of a story I once wrote called 'A Once-Bright House', which is about a boy who brings nature into his father's sterile and ascetic house. Edit: I'm also reminded of when Vanessa Ives and her allies are holed up in the house in Penny Dreadful.
This song is incredible. I’m not sure what the lyrics were originally meant to be about, but they perfectly encapsulate my experiences with agoraphobia. Being totally isolated in my old farm house in the middle of nowhere. It was such a cold, dark time, but it also had its bittersweet moments. The feeling that no one ever thinks about you can be crushing, but for me it was more comforting. Like I didn’t want to exist anywhere but my little prison trapped in the vines. Even peoples’ thoughts. It’s hard to see what you’re missing out on as a shut-in when you’re blinded by the mud caked around you. Which in a way is a blessing. It made my prison more comfortable.
You got a shoutout: th-cam.com/video/c8guXBwKZJY/w-d-xo.html Had no idea you had at least *something* to do with the process of "Flatlands" even being made at all. I, on behalf of everybody in the entire world, would like to thank you for that!
