A lot of this focuses on people that are already level 30 and are afraid to go into Conquest at this point, but many of the tips and tricks should be useful for new players or beginners to the gamemode as well. There came a point, months after I had hit level 30, where I realized I was no longer dealing with role-stealing and instalocking every other game. It happens once every ten or so games, and teammates actually call them out on it instead of going "w/e its just a game he can play what he wants stop sperging you autist".
I don't know what internal matchmaking algorithms there are for casual conquest, but I'm grateful they're working for me.
Can someone explain the roles like what solo and jungle and mid are supposed to do
Solo is usually played by a warrior or some specific assassins but I've seen guardians in there. They play in the solo or short lane, which is the shortest lane on the map. Mid is usually a mage and plays in the middle of the map. Jungle can be all sorts of roles and their jobs is to clear camps and gank, or ambush enemies in lane, giving their team the advantage.

My first conquest was my last. Had people telling me to kill myself and saying I was useless even though I said my role and even stated it was my first round of conquest. They expect you to be pro apparently.
I am not trying to be a dick. But did you actually do ur role. And did u go into the right lane?
WhimsicalDuck I ran into this support who was all mad at me because I forgot to build shoes because I had to lock down dual lane when they backed and mid ganked. He kept saying I sucked and he was the smite guru.
He went 0-8 and I went 6-8. Saved him 5 different times and got a triple kill.
I want to get back into conquest, but the toxicity really kills all the fun that I have in this game...
Was conquest actually fun?
As opposed to every other game mode, it's so slow and i personally get distracted in all the downtime.
Not to mention sometimes games last over 60 min.
Zefo No I had a game last night that lasted over 80 minutes, we lost but had over 25 kills over them, Fuck waiting 80 plus seconds
yeah, after 45 min, it doesn't matter how many kills you had till then, if 2 of you die, the opp team can end.

Thank goodness for this video! Trying to get into Conquest at level 30 is really hard.
Also, an additional tip for some: Practice vs AI doesn't help much for learning Conquest. You can familiarize yourself with jungle navigation, sure, but that's about it- the bots do not rotate and treat solo lane like a second duo lane. They're fairly dumb that way.

if i play with easy AI against medium AI to try out new keybindings or stuff like that i usually end up in a game where my AI has a duo on that one lane that the opponent AI team only has 1 god resulting in having 2v1,2v2,1v2 lanes :/
Doing custom game lobbies has that problem too, yeah. The bots forget where they should go and you get really weird things.
Making a custom game can help. It lets you assign only three players to each team, to ensure you get a solo lane each time. And I think the AI has a higher setting. I'm probably wrong, but it still feels like the AI does a way better job.
Cheshire Cad Even then, they're still _very_ easily outplayed by any reasonable player. Also, the other bots will not rotate to help a teammate that's losing their lane, as a human team would/should do. Playing vs bots all the time will teach new players bad habits with rotating.
Hey Duke, thanks for putting these videos together. I find a lot of other Smite TH-camrs give really loose guides or just stream, so we need someone who can put together good guides and give real advice and you fill that role really well. Keep them coming man, fantastic work.

TheNightEcho Mostly MOBA. If I was in something like call of duty against a 'pre made' I wouldn't really care. MOBA's definitely have a larger impact

Anyway, great guide for new conquest players, with good info even for some lvl 30s who still forget doing some things.
I really, really don't envy anyone that has to play OCE matches. Those queue times+MM must hurt :/

DukeSloth Didn't expect the reply! Queue times are fine in AU too (I used to live and play in NA and they have fairly similar queues); the trade-off being that matchmaking can be outright terrible especially at off-peak times. Can't blame it due to the smaller player base here but unfortunately there's a lot of bm towards new players as a result, since they'll obviously end up feeding opponents with 1000 hours of total playtime.
Anyway just wanted to say really enjoy your vids - I watch streams and pro players' vids all the time but you make some of the most detailed guides that go right to the point.

Most important tip i can offer before playing a conquest match is to watch a video or two of the God you plan on playing. Watch how they are typically used and learn some of their combos and builds. That will be a huge help to you and your team.
I can second this, this if only for the guy who was trashing med on mids, and Sloth didn't really go into it here, but there are some mid gods where Meditation is a necessity. Chang'e for example, will get Med in 90% of her mid games, both pro and amateur players will get med on her if playing mid and it'd be bad if someone saw this video, saw a Chang'e getting med and was like, "Fucking noob, DukeSloth said that Med is for fucking scrubs in mid."
If someone sees this video and starts using its information to verbally harass someone, it shows a lack of understanding far deeper than anything Duke can be expected to help.
And yeah, Chang'e with med is a stone-cold bitch. People still ask why I don't get teleport when I play her solo. Then they see what happens when I never have to back.
this is a great video! As an experienced conquest player I am glad someone finally did this.
I typically turn on the auto-skill for gods I have pre-set ability-pathing on such as my adc pool with Jing Wei, Artemis and Anhur. Sometimes I'll turn it off if I'm not feeling confident but for the most part I think my auto-leveling is fine. :v Auto-build I typically always leave off because there is that scenario you mentioned where counter-building is a thing. My build for every game is almost always completely different from the previous build. Sometimes I'll try to rush Ichaival or Transendence first, sometimes I'll grab Death's Toll and a couple wards plus tier one of another item it really is a wildcard start for me depending on the enemy comp.
On Xbox, if you press Left Stick, you can call a role from the menu. Just thought that was a nice touch on Hi Rez's part.
this should just be something you can do on pc anyways, if u vgs before the game starts your options are the greetings and role call. which would be awesome

having auto level isnt all that bad
for example if i level up in the middle of a fight i wont have to divert my attention to what i want to level up or hitting the right button to level that ability
auto buy is a bad idea though i will give you that since it makes it impossible to counter buy

Something that helped me when starting is remembering that: Short Lane = Speed = Solo. Using this allows you to be on the correct side according to your role.
This is alot of stuff for people who just want to get into conquest. Personally i think the hardest thing about conquest is the early game and you should espeially teach this for every role. Anyway nice video ; )

Sometimes the insta lockers can be fun, I was in a game, straight away I ping jungle and a neith and medusa insta lock, then a few seconds after a Jing Wei and anhur instalock, so just for fun and to have a full hunter team I went Ho yi jungler. You would never get a full hunter game like that with everybody knowing what to do and whereas it is annoying when the last person locks in a stupid God for a support it is fun to have things like that. Also goes with the motd where you can choose any God, it is very fun to have a full nox team all go into each other and burst out all on one person.
fun fact: my first conquest was absolute hell. i don't recall all the details and this wasn't like a ranked conquest but all that i can remember was that our opponents seemingly got to us out of no where and spent most of the time killing any god that left the camp as if we were in a nazi death camp.
it even reminded me of a game i had of multiplayer call of duty where seemingly are enemies knew where every spawn zone would be so they camped and killed anyone that respawned with automatic shotguns.

I'm such a scaredy cat, that i can't force myself to play it after my long break which was back in beta time (Ne Zha was new, i returned to Smite week before Bellona arrival), since my return due to complete lack of knowlege i was too scared to play conquest, despite missing it. So thank you, this videos are really helpful and courage building. And i know this video is old and there is tiny chance that youll read this, but maybe i'm wrong.

Since you need 18 gods mastered to play ranked conquest make sure you have at least two or three on each class so if one of them gets banned your good, and you at least need to know their kit, some combos and what to build with them.
See, things like this need to be official tutorials in game. I've been traumatized from conquest because my first match I instalocked ama nad got yelled at the whole match by the mid laner.
The meta is so strong in the game I think Hi rez ought to take step to info players more to avoid less people being sacred of conquest. But what do i know.
I've played conquest since I was a high enough level to be able to join it. I barely play arena,siege and clash.
I think ignoring the BM and not letting it get to you is a big part of playing casual conquest and solo queue, you even see pro players get Bm'd in those games.

I don't buy potions as Jungle. I either clear the small xp camps for mana or just back. Always buy wards though. Especially if you're squishy or support. Solo doesn't need them as much, but it doesn't hurt to have them.
Great video as always! But I have some more questions about the topic...
I usually play Guardians and end up in the support role whenever I play casual conquest (which is not often). One of my main issues is not knowing how to rotate. When should I expect to begin rotating? How do I recognize a rotation opportunity? After I rotate, should I stay for one minion wave or leave immediately? I also don't know when 'Early Game' ends and when 'Late Game' begins, or what those terms even mean. Is there a hard-and-fast rule about when to start grouping and team-fighting? If a skirmish starts somewhere else on the map, which roles are expected to rotate and help and which ones stay in lane and push objectives? Does this change at later times in the match?

i'm not much help when it comes to all that because i'm only just starting conquest (i've been jousting for a very long time lol), but in con early game is (generally) minute 1 - 10, mid is 11 - 20 and late is anything after that. that is, if no one has fed or the team has not fallen extremely behind.
As someone who primarily plays assault,the rotations and warding are really what's fucking me up. The problem is, the main way to learn that is to play, but I'm a bit worried about playing without knowing that
I started playing Smite (and other mobas) back when Smite was in closed beta, yet don't properly know how to play conquest or the same mode in other mobas. I understand roles but rotating, when to take objective X ganking, etc. are something I don't really know how to time right. Also that's the reason why I can't play jungler well, even though I love playing assassins
I use a controller so it s hard not to have auto level any tips on how I can load out my controller to level my ability with it.

DukeSloth, which is worse? Have a teammate that is purposefully feeding from the begginning, or a teammate that is just such trash they might as well be feeding and they rage about it? I had a game where one person died to the tower 3 times and blamed the rest of the team. and he was solo laner. Had another game where it was just 2 people who kept running into towers.
I personally dont mind if people dont know how to play conquest, im glad to teach em. As long as they arent asshats about it and like pick agni jungle, go 0 n 12 in ranked, and then say "lol it is just a game"

Back in season 2 I only played conquest and it made up over 50% of my game mode queues. In season 3 I can barely even get into a conquest queue without having teams fight in the queue lobby over roles and insta-locking. The players who keep trying "experimental" builds kills it for me. I can understand some of their decisions, but to feed their lane and then leave while in middle of the match was a huge turn off to conquest for me this season.
You guys ever noticed that when you taunt while walking with Zhong and then stop, the animation starts playing? It doesn't happen with other characters.
I am new to the game and when I try to play conquest I just get yelled at by my teammates for doing stuff wrong. I'm not really learning much. I know what not to do, but idk what to do instead

it was funny. I main support and once the two guys wanted to be jungles. they both ended up leaving me to duo alone where they had a three v two against the solo and later got mad at me for dying constantly. it wrecked my thoughts of junglers

I'm always confused in conquest of which parts of my builds should be staples and which parts of my builds need to be flex. Could you maybe go into that on a video or just give me some tips? I play jungle and mid mainly and any help would be appreciated.
So in terms of exceptions for mid... When I use Anubis (haha shit tier I know) is it okay to go for T2 Bancroft's with two mana potions to start? Or should I do Vampiric Shroud? I do well with him, but don't bring him into ranked for obvious reasons.
while the T2 bancroft's does give a lot of power and the two mana pots as well as the lifesteal will help you sustain, you get more of it if you start vampiric shroud. the early game requires you to stay in lane and farm, and as anubis you'll probably be tower-hugging because any half-decent player will know to constantly gank him. you get more pots for sustain if you start with shroud, as well as getting the MP5 and extra health.
Hello, i am a level 15 in smite and still isnt that good and suck and usually get a lot of angry teammates i like anhur he seems good and i have a good build but i suck, any help?
You need to learn how to build/counter build to play conq but turning off auto skill feels situational to me. The game is generally already set to level you well (unless you're a character like Thor, Scylla, or Ah puch who need to point skip or ignore Ult)

I can't level up , I'm learning vital stuff when q ing with my friends but no one uses them in level 15 matchmaking , I have seen people leaving solo lane to go to the right lane just for a killsteal and it cost us a win
@DukeSloth Would you say a lot of these requirements also apply to playing conquest on consoles? I am currently lv. 20 on smite, and a lot of your requirements I don't actually fit (for example I'm not that good at counterbuilding and I'm only really comfortable as mage, usually midlaning) yet I somehow do better than people on my team/ react better to situations. Perhaps this could be due to a drop in skill level between platforms?
Yeah, was gonna say that, don't compare yourself to the average console player. There are many players on console that came from non-moba cames and as such, are relatively clueless. Yet, they are performing relatively well as they're surrounded by an environment of similar players, so they don't need to change. You can easily rise above those by learning and understanding multiple roles and counterbuilding. The only things that don't apply afaik are muting because it's not possible and calling roles because the role calling system is different.

i would love to go back to conquest, when i first started i used to always play but now with all the updates i find it really lagging fps wise and also i load in late in some games and my team starts raging at me for that.

also for auto buy and auto skill. I never use auto buy of course, but auto skill is tricky because it's hard to understand which to level. how do I learn that

Coming from League wave managment can win you games and in smite no one seems to know or care about that. What slowpush means what freezing the lane means or just how to leave your lane before you rotate. Alot of people seem to just rotate without really clearing the wave and some seconds later the minions are suddenly under your tower damaging the tower and maybe even destroy it.
To be honest, minions in LoL are very different. Freezing waves is more rewarding as zoning in Smite only works when you have a MASSIVE lead, due to being close to an enemy already giving you part of the gold and full xp. Also, in Smite's midgame you can clear waves in Smite much faster and instead of stalling, you can make use of that time to rotate. The same thing isn't as easy in LoL, due to the map being a lot bigger.
Dadev well after playing both waves are less impact I've in smite that LOL but I get where your coming from
why is auto-skill so bad? i.e. when the "level-up" is blinking, i can't see if the ability is on CD or not. so is set up my skills in god builder and run with auto-skill.
while that is all well and good, if you set a before a game there's a chance the comp you or the enemy has may need you to change which abilities you level.

I want to get into conquest but I usually become very frustrated. I rage after a game or two and head back to arena. I know conquest is the best mode but I do not really enjoy it. The game is not "fun" when I play conquest. Maybe I can give it another go in season 4.

i use auto level with my abilities fixed in the god menus should i not?
TheXmacProject some gods you can get away with it, but gods with important heals, immunities or escapes are harder to do so. If you are playing against a very weak or passive player, you don't have to level your escape first, and can focus on damage. However, if they are being very aggressive or are just playing an aggressive God, you'll want your escape etc as soon as possible.
TheXmacProject you shouldn't
there can be times when it would have been better to lvl something else. Like merc you lvl his 1 for clear, you got invaded and killed, but if you had his 3 you could have gotten out, so i recommend learning when to lvl what ingame.
auto level has pros and cons, i personally started using it a while ago
you just need to know what you'll be leveling at which point with this system and turn it off if you know you might have to change it
basically, know what you'll be leveling and know if it's the right way to level in this situation, if it is you might gain a little bit out of it if you gain a level in combat, otherwise turn it off fast enough so it won't harm you in that one game

a question why hirez wont do a asymmetrical map (if thats even what its called like lets say that the speed camps are not on the same side but on the opposed side like a zig zag of sorts like the speed camp will always be on the right side for example)? itll be easier for new players that didnt play any moba game before or new player that came from other mobas
D.K. Florian Invades would be harder, and the lanes would be flip flopped. solo lane for order would be on the right and it would be in the right as well for chaos... meaning that both lanes are shortened. It just wouldnt work.
lol uses top and bot because the lanes are the same, but since the lanes are different in smite to create a different dynamic that would not work
D.K. Florian and it would mess up the whole game and the meta of the game. This game has been out for 4 years, give or take. There are less and less new players, and changing the game, basically making it a new game, would really f*ck up the game for 90% of the player base.

I hate when people call out roles and want to leave you with support. Then leave you without help.
Or when you main certain roles. They don't even want to put the mic in and talk about it. They just instant lock it.
Or if you're not a button masher so you can't just instant lock call a role.smh
Then they get mad. That's shit is annoying. If they don't have a mic I usually ignore them.

Had a game where 3 people wanted solo, only 1 of them called. In the end the one who called solo had to go to mid, and the 2 who wanted solo just went there. Fuck. Me.
Having wards are nice but if you don't know where to place them they aren't that special :|
Can yall tell me how long it took you to get use to conquest?
sailornaruto39 a LOT, just a few months ago maybe 2-3 (been playing for like 6-7 months) i started to understand builds and roles
I've really only played conquest since I started playing smite back in April of this year I mean I also play clash and siege every now and then but I'm a conquest player. It was the first game mode I played and my favorite. Even that being my main game mode, it still took a good month to two months to truly understand it and git gud. Just remember roles are extremely important and find what role you're good at and try to call it at the beginning of each game
