I thought one of the basic tenets of Zentangle is abstract-ness. That a tangle does not have directionality, can be looked at from any angle and appreciated. Not a fan of this one. And before I get shade, I know Heather didn’t pick this one. :). Just expressing an opinion. I tend to be more of a classic zentangler. I love me some good paper, an 01 and graphite only. Oh and a tortillion.
I understand, Charlene. It's actually about non-representational - ness. LOL That way there is no up, no down, no right, no wrong. I struggle with a number of tangles and following this concept. Rick and Maria talk about how Poke Root was a step outside of their own tenet. However, I look at it this way, or rather compromise with myself, if it uses the elemental strokes, that helps. If it has the element of forgiveness, meaning we don't have to be accurate with the strokes, that's another plus. I think I like her variation a little better.
