Almost 3 whole decades later, The Woodlands pays homage to this legendary show.

I miss the old DCI, rich with sounds and drills for ear n eye candy. And the CGs sufficient with their dances and rifles n flags.
Now too much mega size props, made the field crowded and packed..n then with electronic buzz n mic for speaking? The drills become less intense , more static-n-play. Instead of corps they become like a theatre
Maybe I am from old generations, my views n opinion maybe biased. I may have to learn that things evolved. Including my beloved DCI.

Can't help but agree. Even the playing style has changed. Battery books nowadays seem filled to the brim with rams and filler, techniques have softened, everyone's playing 'through the drum'. But I look back on groups like Star '93, BD '94-'99, SCV '02-'06, Phantom '96, all these books were so much more flavorful while being hard-hitting. Every stroke was played, and when it got clean it was incredible to experience. No disrespect or hate on the current generation of DCI talent, but I can't help but see the change and feel somewhat indifferent to it.

I don't think anyone would be upset with BD getting top 2 every year if their shows were still like this one

@@sdssteward i grew up with new age of dci (me being 18) but i appreciate this style way more than the new BD. i like the upbeat vibe and how it gets the crowd roaring. if i could watch a show back then you bet i would.

@@chikentenderz24 To be fair, 2007 and 2017 BD also gets the crowd roaring, but....
...nevermind, those are the only two exceptions I can think of. In fairness, I haven't watched 2019 BD or 2022 BD, since I don't have the Blu-ray Discs and/or CDs from those years.

That stadium is huge, wow. Met a brass player that marched this show, during a carnival cruise once. That would've been 2002-ish. Was like talking to a celebrity 😂. If you're out there, what's up man! Still love this show

I remember this show vividly. I was in high school back in Delaware, some friends and I used to march Westshoremen DCA corps and we'd travel up on weekends for rehearsal. We were all in jazz band/marching band/convcet. I was in the pit orchestra for musicals. Anyway, when we heard BD were doing Chick Corea, of course our ears perked. Then the news came out about the new uniforms we were just all about it. One of us auditioned and made the line and ended up marching 95-97. I really dug Carpe Noctem '95 even though they didn't win that year. The guard outfits were badass and the show had a darkness and meanness that I just loved. Those years from 94-99 were just spectacular, IMO. This show though, the one that started that run....all of us felt like we missed out bc none of us had tried to audition prior. This show elevated the whole game into the new millennium, if you ask me. Amazing show!!

Carpe Noctem was amazing. I like it more than all of their other championship shows from the era you mentioned, minus 94.

I was there for this show. During their war up, you knew they were going to win. Their execution and power was out of this world not to mention their horns and drums. The color guard was fantastic. At one point the drum line covers 80 yards of the field. Doing the crab walk. I have never seen a more powerful performance since by any corp.

What note is that at the end of the ensemble, a high g? It's so amazingly clear and loud. I think I wore that part of my 1994 CD out listening to that section over and over.

Double C on g bugle, which transposes to a double A in B flat. Roland’s money note is that A. He has so much power in that range.
