I visited this place today morning! Quiet and calm outer arches and a bit noisy the inner ones! What a master piece!
    ❤ From Mirpur!

Lovely flashback to UJC,spending four months of my schooling in Military College,Sarai Alamgir, when we walked up to the banks of the canal on Sundays to tide over our homesick life in Tipu House.Thereafter,in the army, drove over from Kharian to Peshawar with the family, over UJC Bridge on G.T Road.Thanks.

Sir, A similar thing happened at Arthur Cotton Barrage/ Dowleswaram Barrage(Godavari river) near Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh. It made the local farmers extremely rich and prosperous🙂 (the local Naidu farmers similarly take the title of 'Chowdhury/Choudhuri' with slight spelling variation from the northern Chaudhary at times). Engineering marvels at their best.

Superb explanation sir... A little correction of date ... It was November 1901 when NWFP was carved out of Punjab and made a separate province.

Thank you very much for the correction. I had a little doubt there.

@odysseuslahori Salman Sb, you are a god among us insects. Could you very kindly lay down some excellent reading material on Pakistan's hydrological engineering, canal systems and the history and geography of the associated areas? I know I'm asking for a multitude of books/reports/documents that one might find in the public domain, but being highly interested in history, geography, anthropology and hydrogeography, I'd be much indebted if you could let us use your excellent and precise faculties. Stay blessed!

Absolutely true. A rags to riches story. Many big names of the “Gondal Bar/Distt Mandi Bahauddin” & Sargodha owe their wealth & influence to Upper Jhelum Canal.

Sir why was a headworks made on the River after it had crossed the Aquaduct?

I don't understand your question. There is no aqueduct on this system.
