I raced Stadium trucks in the 90s back when it was at it's peak. I got back into RC racing in 2019 and was amazed that stadium truck really didn't exist any longer - only at trophy races would I see a couple heats. 2 months ago I dusted off my old Losi XXT and took it to an event and had a blast. That weekend I went home with a T6.2. This truck is absolutely amazing and so easy to drive. I really hope that this puts some life back into stadium truck racing.
Dirt, gone. , ST, gone. On-road, gone. Nitro, gone. What have we let happen to rc in my few years break? Everyone wants a basher to go 200mph and jump 100ft without breaking or to race on carpet because you know, who wants a dirty car... I don't know what happen but it sucks. Absolutely great video! New sub.
So, what happened... Dirt... cleaning was a part of it but it was mainly people demanding more traction and more consistent surface conditions (because they wanted to be able to just grab a handful of throttle and just wanted to copy pro setups instead of tuning to track conditions), and track owners looking for cheaper and easier to maintain surfaces. Unfortunately, this is partially why modern 1/10th scale kits have become so expensive and practically useless on anything other than carpet or sealed clay (exception being Schumacher, somehow they managed to make a car that can be set up for any surface without swapping parts). 1/8th scale still runs on dirt, though. ST... Short Course Trucks happened. The popularity of SCTs pretty much eroded away everything else for a while. Buggy managed to recover quickly. STs, though, are still struggling to regain even a fraction of the popularity they had. Partially because everyone tells newbies to run SCT rather than ST for some reason, and partially because the buggy guys (as in people who ONLY care about 1/10th scale buggies and treat anyone who doesn't run the class with contempt, not necessarily just anyone with a buggy) have a stick up their collective ass about anything that isn't a buggy. On-Road... is actually still around to an extent, you just have to look for it. Most of what you'll see is going to be either parking lot racing or indoor carpet. Nitro... still alive and well in 1/8th scale racing. 1/8th scale E buggies have surpassed 1/8th scale nitro buggies in popularity but not to the point where nitro is dying off there. The main draw for nitro racing these days is taking pit strategy into account. The whole "extreme bashing" scene is Kevin Talbot's fault. Granted, that existed before but before he came around it was mainly reserved as a stunt show thing. Kevin was the one who popularized intentionally trying to break RC cars. Carpet racing, like I said before, was as much due to traction demands by drivers and maintenance demands by track owners as it was due to cleaning.
Traxxas never stopped making a stadium truck. Also, in the early nineties Traxxas cleaned up with one of their very early stadium trucks. I suspect stadium trucks will make a comeback, you just can't beat open wheel racing.
I wouldn't mind Stadium trucks making a comeback! I'm always hesitant on buying one because they're not a popular class so that means low car count! I will say I prefer driving a Stadium truck over a short course brick!
Really like that color you went with. I'm new to rc and just upgraded to the t6.2. Had a great time with my first build. Just got it out this week from a couple practices and race. I'm so happy with it! Except the bulk head. Broke it in 10 minutes. Couple upgrades for my clay track and its competitive. Spot on on your review on the truck. Have a good one 👍
Good video, weight balance favours the front so adding the brass pivot means the front will oversteer and cause rear to break loose. Combat by using battery weights or try shorter rear link. Apologies if you already know this. I spied the exotec brass c, nice move.
My second rc was a stadium truck around 20 years ago.. I used to race twice a month. I wrecked my truck a bunch but only had to change the plastic arm on my turning servos twice. They loosened up the front end so it would spring back instead of break that arm when hit. After that never had to fix anything. I am interested in getting started again but durability is my hold up.
My first non basher rc car I ever got and first kit I ever built as a kid was a Losi XXXNT2 Adam drake that I put a nova Rossi in. Still have it and still in great shape as right when I built it is when stadium truck popularity started to die
Just got a T6.2, local track has enough people running 13.5 stadium truck to have a decent class going usually. A few of us are also starting a mostly stock Rustler class that should be much more affordable for people to get into. Definitely prefer stadium truck to the short course, they just don't appeal to me for some reason. Probably all the bashing during races. Fast group buggy/stadium truck races are usually polite and clean.
should be fined for putting yellow wheels on an AE Truck lol. great video. was on the fence about picking up this kit last month(being my first kit). this video definatley helped push me in the right direction.
Great video, Gumby. Why do you think the 2wd ST truck isn't as popular now? The body shape is calling me to paint a GraveDigger model, which is key lol Reviews say they are a tad easier to set up and maintain than 2wd buggies. Couple that with the fact they appear to be a tad easier to drive and seem a bit more "floaty" over jumps - this sounds like a great combo for noobies who often tag the walls a lot
"A tad easier to set up" is a massive understatement. Apart from tires, stadium trucks are generally set-and-forget, and as long as you have the right tires on them you'll almost never find a lack of traction.
The only way to bring back stadium truck at the club level is to buy them. Go get one. Let's race. Better yet go get one and get a nitro conversion for it and lets race gas truck.
Nice video! I just picked up the kit and am going to start building it today (my first build) so I just want to confirm that I'm using short sockets in the front and long ones in the back, correct? Thanks in advance!
@@RoachRChow is the speed on that motor? I am building a T6.4 right now and got the Hobbywing Combo with that motor. Just wondering if it was enough speed.

I'm someone who never ran stadium trucks prior to the t6.2. That has to count for something

My first RC was RC10ST!! Modded it over the years & wish I still had it....2wd Stadium truck is top 1 or 2 favorite RC platform....1/8th 4wd e-truggy
I bought the SC6.2 and though I haven’t had a lot of experience driving it yet I’m very happy with my purchase so far!...
Nice job bringing light to the Stadium trucks.
Had a half a dozen ST at the last race I went to. SCT is pretty much nonexistent in my area

That paint looks absolutely fabulous, gives me old Hotwheels Spectraflame vibes
It's Tamiya dark magenta backed by silver. Unfortunatly the body wasn't very strong so it didn't last long under abuse

Stadium trucks are my favorite by far. SCT seems like it was a fad, and is dying out a bit. Stadium trucks might return to their former glory.

Front shocks use the long eyelets, rear ones use the short eyelets😉
Love it!

what front tires are you using
I think they're called prism wedge hybrids

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bad decisions

Hobbywing Justock 13.5
