I so appreciate your making this video and talking about the history of what happened to Hiroshima in WW2. My mother is Japanese and was born and raised in Hiroshima. She survived the bomb only because she lived six miles away from her school, woke up that morning with an uneasy feeling that something was wrong and refused to go to school that day. All her cousins and friends who did go to school perished that day. My mother suffered from exposure to radiation and her hair fell out, but eventually grew back. Each family had to send a volunteer to go to where they treated burn victims. It was like a huge gymnasium, all the patients were on the floor, no beds. They helped with changing bandages, etc. My mother was 13 years old and was the volunteer from her family. I recall her telling me how horrific it was to witness all the pain and suffering and worse, which I won't talk about here. My father was in the military and was stationed on Okinawa. We lived there for 2 1/2 years, and during that time my mother took my brother and I over to Hiroshima to meet our grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins. She also took us to the dome building museum, the peace memorial and other sights to teach us the history of what happened to Hiroshima and its people. I could go on and on. You brought back so many memories for me. In your video I can see how the city has grown since I was there in 1968. I would love to see it now and revisit the places my mother took us to. Thank you, Emma❣

I love watching all of the great times you had on your trip. And I really appreciate that you took time to share a little of what you learned about the history. Especially that of what happened in WW2 it's so important that we not forget what happened in the past. And to learn about the city and the people that live there today!

It's amazing how much you manage to get out from visiting these places. I guess you're a pro traveller now! when I'm in a new town or city I never know how to get the best use of my short time there and if there's anything I can do that isn't really touristy.

i think that once you appreciate Hiroshima for what it is today and what it has to offer, you can get past the tragic history. Hiroshima has some of the best natural spots in all of Japan, its distinctive culture spreads to the food, the shrines, the people...I did study about the war as most of us did but as i learned more and more about the prefecture i was able to open my eyes on the beautiful Hiroshima.

Love the wabi-sabi paths at Mitaki. It's a nice place and also has some symbolic connection to Auschwitz due to the atrocities of that and Hiroshima too. Nice to see some alternative Hiroshima activities as, after a dozen plus trips there (my in-laws live there), I am always on the look out for new things to do. Nice video.

Aaaah ! I love this ! This made me miss Hiroshima so much! I was there this summer and it was the place I had the least expectations for but I left Japan thinking Hiroshima was hands down, my favourite place out of the bunch that I visited.
The highlight from the trip was definitely the huge street festival we accidentally bumped into. It was late at night and the streets were filled with food and colors and light and people of all ages dancing ! I can't put it into words, it was incredible.
Also if you(whoever might be reading this) go there I highly recommend taking a day off from the city to explore the smaller towns nearby, one of the best things about japan is being able to hop on a train to no where and I had some of my best experiences doing that!!

Thank you for this video. I lived in Hiroshima for 4 months and studied at Hiroshima Shudo University, and it was easily the best time of my life. It’s truly a gorgeous and vibrant city with people who made me feel at home. Mitaki Dera was a spiritual experience for me. I actually climbed the mountain by myself once and when i found an overlook, I knew I was in the right place at the right time. I truly hope more students try to study in places like Hiroshima instead of Tokyo. It’s surreal seeing if from someone else’s perspective!
Now i’m homesick for my second home :)
